Chambeshi looking forward to Congo U23 AFCON decider

Zambia U23 coach Beston Chambeshi is relishing June’s final round clash against Congo-Brazzaville in the 2019 U23 AFCON qualifiers.

Congo and Zambia battle for a place in the Egypt final after successfully negotiating their way through the March’s second round qualifying phase after eliminating Burundi and Malawi respectively.

“We need good preparations, we know our team but all we need is good preparations that are our strong point,” Chambeshi said.

“We are playing at home first which is good because we’ll know them well, they don’t know us and we don’t know them because we have not played each other. It will be a good a good at least we know where to start from.”

Zambia will hosts Congo in the first leg on June 5 in Lusaka before travelling to Brazzaville on June 9 to decide who qualifiers for the November finals in Egypt.

The top three finishers in Egypt will represent Africa at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

  1. Hooo so it’s in June, why talk about so early?
I like that coach Chambeshi. He say “we know our team”. He is not saying “we are developing a team”, like most Zambian coaches. Including Charles Bwale, chikkala messed up under 20s.

  3. We have hope in you Ba Coach. One positive about you is that you have an eye for talent and mobilizing a team. Please gather all the best legs to play against Congo. I have had the privilege of watching their game they played against Burundi. They are a good side and please prepare well. All the weaknesses identified during the match against Malawi must be worked on. Organize one or two friendly matches not playing against Lusaka Tigers. If possible FAZ, why not camp the team in Italy or Spain. Malawi did just that and camped their team in Belgium. This may motivate the boys and expose them to higher skills. We are all behind you this time around. The embarrassment of missing out on AFCON 2019 is still with us and painful. Even weaker teams than us have qualified but we have not. But…
