Unbeaten Kabwe Warriors repelled a fiery Zesco United side on Saturday to stay in the top two of FAZ Super Division Pool A when they left Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola with a 1-1 draw against the defending champions.
Warriors had goalkeeper Scott Ngokane to thank for an inspired 90 minute performance in which he made five clear attempts on goal.
But it was Warriors who broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime when Heritier Nkonko headed-in a Paul Simpemba ‘s corner after goalkeeper Jacob Banda failed to adequately clear the latter’s ball that he flapped into the formers path.
However, Zesco equalized from a set-piece of their own in the 69th minute when ex-Warriors defender Marcel Kalonda bundled in a John Chingandu free -kick.
Zesco drop from second to third in Pool A on 20 points, Warriors slip to second on goal difference with 22 points where they were joined by new leaders Lusaka Dynamos who beat Mufulra Wanderers 1-0 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Chris Mugalu’s 60th minute goal lifted Dynamos from fourth to first on goal difference.
