Simba milling slashes mealie meal price

Simba Milling Limited has reduced the price of a 25 kilogram bag of breakfast mealie meal from K150 to K130, with immediate effect.

Simba milling Limited Sales and Marketing Manager Dennis Chiwaya announced the K20 price reduction in a press release, issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Mr Chiwaya said the wholesale price reduction is effective today, Monday December 23, 2019.

He noted that the price reduction is in line with the tripartite agreement signed between the Food Reserve Agency (FRA), Simba Milling and other stakeholders.

Mr Chiwaya has since advised retailers to sell a 25 kilogram bag of breakfast mealie meal at K135 within Lusaka.

Recently, African Milling Limited announced a similar reduction in the price of breakfast mealie-meal from K150 to K130.

The price of the country’s staple food has in the recent past increased to unprecedented levels with the commodity fetching around K150 in Lusaka and the Copperbelt, and K170 in Livingstone, among other places countrywide.

Government has assured the general public that the authority is working round the clock to reduce the high price of mealie meal in the country.

  1. All odds against this artificial price reduction. It won’t be long, with overheads due to this load shedding, not sustainable surely

    • ok so a trader buys 100 bags and he is making 5 Kwacha. so he makes 500 Kwacha and he booked a small canter truck. the shop attendant has to be paid. he’s paying rent, non existent electricity……….. too much to mention and it’s feasible?? this is outright madness. What’s PF trying to do???

  2. @kabika
Your negativity on every progressive development on national matters will slowly but surely kill you. You may think you are opposing Government for reasons best known to yourselves but believe you me that’s how even your children will grow with inferiority complex. But I news for you, whether you like it or not, mealie meal prices have been reduced for now and that’s what matters. If you think loadshedding is deliberate thing go and get yourself some solar panels or the biggest generator to solve it

In a free market economy, someone wants to play price control, has he factored in the costs retailers incur after they buy from him.

    • Even in free market economies producers have a recommended retail price. It’s not price control

    • Would you explain to me how your K5 presumed profit will cater for the costs the retailer will incur.? Remember that mealie meal bag won’t transport itself from simba milling plant to someone’s katemba in chilenje.

  4. This price reduction is an out right lie. It can’t stand. It has no legs to stand on. The economic fundamentals don’t support it
