New Chipolopolo Coach Hunt Nose-Dives

The prospects of the permanent Chipolopolo coach being named this week are dashed after Sports Minister Emmanuel Mulenga said he is not aware the recruitment process has been completed.

FAZ has since September undertaken a grueling recruitment process that started with 60 candidates before settling on a three-man shortlist following a botched attempt to sign ex-Botswana and Bloemfontein Celtic coach Veselin Jelusic last August.

The FAZ executive committee reportedly settled on ex-Orlando Pirates and Zamalek coach Milutin Sredojevic and at the start of this week submitted their report to the Ministry of Sport who are the stakeholders in furnishing the salary of the new Chipolopolo coach.

Mulenga said the only correspondence that has reached him from FAZ dates back to October 1, 2019.

“It has been reported in almost all the print media that FAZ has recruited a coach and they have actually reported to the Ministry so that the Ministry can actually consent on the coach,” Mulenga said.

“Our position as Ministry of Sport and my office is that we have not received any correspondence from FAZ indicating to us that they have finished the process and that they have settled on a coach.

“You need to be aware that as a professional body, or as a Ministry, we have professional ethics which regulates our decisions as well as our conduct. We can only respond when we get correspondence from FAZ.”

  1. We ask faz to quickly wind up the process. The quicker we get a coach the quicker the team can build solid cohesion. We want another afcon win. I enjoyed being there to receive the cup in 2012. Let us do it again. Kz

  2. Thats the problem of putting football in politics, nd if we fail to qualify to both afcon nd world cup, we blame the coach.
I wonder what type are we Zambians mwee, please we are tired of the drama between Hon Emmanuel Mulenga minister of sports nd Andrew Kananga FAZ president.

Am appealing to His excellence the ever hardworking President Dr Edgar Chaagwa Lungu as Patron of FAZ to intervene in this fight before its too late nd we miss out on afcon nd world cup.
Please your excellence intervene nd rain over this matter please napapata

  3. Ever since Emmanuel Mulenga took charge of the ministry of youths and sports he has taken a confrontational stance with Faz. We now hear that Faz has reported him to FIFA for interference in the running of football in the Country. Hearing the minister speaking you see under turns of one who is already bitter with Faz. I mean why cant he simply say i am yet to receive a report because I don’t think Adrian Kashala is lying that they have sent a report through the P.S at the Ministry. Why not simply say it has not yet reached my desk. Please don’t take politics into our football we are tired of always politicking. Allow Faz to run independently without due influence from any politician, we don’t want to be burned by Fifa. It appears there are people who are going behind the minister…

  4. telling him that Faz this and Faz That. Mr. Minister why call a press conference to address issues at Faz. a place within Lusaka where you can easily drive and have a one on one chat in a friendly and cordial manner. I am sure you couldn’t because you treat each other as rivals. Please we don’t want this mess to spill over and affect the performance of our National teams. People differ and at the same time do reconcile. Don’t destroy our football game we want to see progress.

  5. There is no interference here. Kamanga is just incompetent. No wonder he regarded the worst loss in zambian football. The guy is full of Rhetoric about his capabilities but results say otherwise.

  6. Kwena ba Kamanga amafailure yachilamo. The only FAZ Chairman to miss two afcons, the only FAZ Chairman to lose to Mozambique, the only Chairman to lose 5-0 very soon to be the only FAZ Chairman to miss three consecutive afcons. Fililo fyeka fyeka
