The Zambia Congress of Trade Union, ZCTU, has accused Chief Government Spokesperson, Mike Mulongoti, of interfering with the 2008 Collective Agreement Negotiations signed between Civil Servants and Allied Workers’ Union and the National Union of the Public Service Workers.

ZCTU Vice President Sam Phiri charged that Mr. Mulongoti’s actions are blatant interference in the bargaining process.

Mr. Phiri said the union mother body, the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions, ZCTU, will not succumb to unwarranted interference in the negotiation process.

Mr. Phiri was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.

He pointed out that Mr. Mulongoti’s claims are a hindrance to the free process of collective bargaining.

He said the ZCTU will continue to pressurize government for a better deal and vowed to reject the 15 per cent increment which government offered earlier.

This is after the two Unions turned down the 15 percent salary increase offered by the government. Chimbinde

  1. Political leaders need to understand that everybody deserves a decent wages. They allocate themselves car loans amounting to over $55,000 and nobody questions them? They have in the past increased their gratuities to over 300 million kwacha for every two and half years served and nobody has challenged them. we better start asking our fortune seekers real questions? 100,000 kwacha increament for housing allowances is an insult. what is more important people’s lives or damaged bridges? they talk of HIPC when it comes to addressing needs of others? african politicians….greed no wonder they die in numbers once they live office? i wish the Lord would strike them with might asap?

  2. Iwe mulongoti….what is 15% increament. If you are a civil servant and still support the MMD and it’s policies ….you need your head examined? see how little these ministers regard you! vote wisely or you shall continue to labor for a slave wage. come 2011 let us make ensure that MMD is defeated once and for all. VIVA PF under Lubinda as sata shall be late by 2011 due to complications with his old heart……viva HH or prof chirwa?

  3. These are the complications of privatization. Our economy is dependant on foreign investors. Today I hear over 300 indians are in our land doing our jobs. Were brought in that container via road. We are not going to have a viable economy if we going to sell everything to foreigners. Our politicians are fake too. Viva nationalization. Vita socialism. All these economies are fake. Full of capitalist who cant think beyond their pockets.

  4. capitalists are motivated by by greed and they will do anything to earn that extra dollar? I am glad that the indians that were brought in a container decided to protest. and can you imagine Liato was not concerned about the human labor that these companies bring in? i hope the people of kaoma are listening to what their womaniser MP said. our political leaders in zambia need to be taught a lesson at the ballot come 2011? they get good money and do not care about the welfare of the local people? we have enough riggers in zambia that are jobless? why bring over 300 indians to perform mannual work. we have plenty of ba zamcabs at soweto market who would perform the job with less supervison.

  5. Had they brought in IT specialists to upgrade and link our police with migration, transportation…etc that would have been understood? but ba labourers. now KCM is even dishing out our own money? it simply shows that our mines are still virbrant. chiluba was selling our mines for less $8 million imagine? that is what KCM will end up paying our expertriate coach? we have enough local coaches ..but the african mentality of “umusungu is better” is still dragging us. winning has to start with the dedication and discipline of our players. Not even pele or mathias would perform wonders if our players maintain their current attitude? these chaps drink more beer that us madala’s. anyway our zambian

  7. There is no government in Zambia, but just a collection of economic hoodlums in corridors of power.

Levy, Mutati etc are the main gangsters. There cannot be any development when the top dogs are out to chew with foreigners everything in sight at the expense of the greater majority of citizens. LuSe is a joke. It must be closed down as it is the route for money laundered from public coffers.

  19. people always get a govt they deserve – this govt is a reflection on the mentality of zambians. You call it apathy, I call it dereliction of duty as a citizen of the country. What has the govt done for you today? Make the govt work for you .. stop being apathetic – start being good.Know your duty. Perhaps we can learn something from US constitution – though they don’t use it – “Govts are instituted among men ,deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whatever form of govt becomes destructive of these ends,it is the right of the pipo to alter or abolish it, and institute new govt….to them as shall seem likely to effect their safety and happiness”.

  20. The insults wont help we need to come together and pray for these people. After all everything works for good for them that love the LORD and are called according to his purpose.
