No new COVID-19 case for four days in Zambia, two more Patients Recover and are discharged

Share

Zambia has for the fourth consecutive day not recorded any new cases of COVID-19, Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya has announced.

And the Minister said two more patients have been discharged bringing the total number of people discharged to five.

Updating the nation on COVID-19, Dr. Chilufya said 33 cases still remain active but stable in Lusaka Province and Masaiti District on the Copperbelt Province.

He said the government has continued to heighten surveillance and has reiterated the need for all Zambians to adhere to the Public Health measures announced by President Edgar Lungu in his address to the nation.

Dr. Chilufya, however, said that complacence remains one of the greatest threats Zambia faces as people are not acting accordingly to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

He reiterated the need for Zambia to stay home and avoid non-essential travel as they observe social distancing and wash their hands.

And Dr. Chilufya said 72 truck drivers that were carrying essential goods were tested and results have come out negative for COVID-19.

He said the drivers carrying essential goods through the Kazungula and Livingstone Ports were screened at the points of entry and were escorted into Lusaka at the University of Zambia where they were tested again.

Dr. Chilufya said this process will continue and everyone entering the country will be quarantined mandatorily for 14 days before being integrated into the society.

  1. Thumbs up indeed and fingers still crossed. I trust the health team but I don’t trust the virus. It is ruthless but it will find that Africans and African climate can be more ruthless than a winter virus.

  2. ONLY someone who has NEVER collected data for a thesis at Degree level via primary research can trust the likes of Chilufya data collection strategies.

  3. Why am I not assured with this news? I should be relieved but I am not. I still fear for me and mine and will continue to follow the instructions regarding this virus.

  6. Haha tarino you look very f.o.o.l.ish trying to argue why there are no deaths or new infections recorded. Because you claim to have done a mere thesis you think you are some sort of specialist? The same professors who educate you there abroad are ones managing the crisis in UK and have lamentable failed with 1000 of deaths. Here yes we have specialist but also a very modest group of staff who are working hard and doing their best with limited resources. However, our drive and love for our country has ensured low infection rates and only 1 unfortunate death. Tell me this if our numbers are questionable surely we wouldn’t be able to hide the deaths. However the deaths are low. So what is your reasoning you evil b.a.s.t.ar.d. you hate your country of birth and yet you still find the time to…

  7. Yes no more cases because there have been no testing- note it does not say how many tests were conducted because none were done except checking a few truck drivers for fever

  9. 72 truck drivers tested, that’s not a big sample, test in the big cities, remember truck drivers don’t mix in the city there are on the road by themselves and parked at border posts for 5 – 7 days and those tests prove it

  10. cosmos – Chilufya’s sampling design is highly questionable but be careful you will called names by the laymen who think this is taking medal scores like at the Olympics.

  11. @Amwa peeling: You shouldn’t be. But at least you can be little relived that the spread of the COVID-19 is not as widespread as first feared. Believe you me, there is no way you can hide the numbers from the public. UK, USA, and China itself tried this fo@l’s errand and look where they ended up. Even the UK Prime Minister himself is now in trouble. Trump is lucky, but that’s what happens when you play politics with a killer virus.

Whether you hide the numbers or not, people will still contract the virus, get sick, and show up at hospitals all around the country and the numbers will be known. The fact that so far this is not what is happening in Zambia should be a source of comfort for now and a little bit assuring. But, like the health Minister has constantly emphasized, we are…

  12. Continue….

not out of the woods yet and you, and everybody else, should continue observing the recommendations of health experts’ in order to continue keeping those numbers low and hopefully keep bending the curve.

  13. We dont have enough test kits to test the more than 5000 suspects which are under observation and monitoring. If we test all those then we shall find at another 200 positive cases.

  15. Really whoever believes this fool must be a Joker. They were willing to come to our homes to test for HIV and wonder on how many people tested that they base on thier figures on for Corona.

  16. It seems coronavirus is making some people lose their mind. Always in a fault-finding mode. We all want this thing to end as quickly as possible don’t we? So why take it out on me? We don’t lose anything by encouraging each other and supporting the health workers who are ALL fighting hard against this virus around the world.

Constructive debate is good and I appreciate if you come with data based knowledge but no need to shoot at each other. I’m not ashamed to learn from you and I know that my dear friends here on LT can also learn from me.

  17. Its Good Not to have new cases reported.
However , what we need is results from mass testing of people in areas that have been identified and declared by the MOH as high risk areas in lusaka. Otherwise, the testing of 50 or so people shows that we are Not doing enough testing relative to the population in a given area.

  18. The main thread in MOH suspicions is that Zambia’s position points at external carriers as our biggest threat. It is not surprising that surveillance teams seem to have placed a huge premium on testing those coming through various points of entry.

Now, they could be wrong with this but they have atleast taken a position. They will thus be judged by these actions not ati abanenu bachitile mwakuti namwakuti.

  19. True, Corvid 19 may be present in the country in large numbers and yet undetected. Whether this is due to lack of capacity or other factors, our greatest security now remains in all of us taking heed to practices that will help prevent the disease from spreading.
Stay at home, wash your hands, keep your hands away from your face, observe social distancing, stuck to essential travel only, even locally and also report any suspicions of people presenting Corvid 19 symptoms. Get yourself some good rest bane. Lastly, pay attention to what your government is doing and consider them at least for this period, as your major source of info regarding this issue. Otherwise follow the WHO for clarity.

  20. I told you so yesterday, didn’t I?. Now wait for the day that the time bomb will explode. Cos there is absolutely no way that there cud only be 39 cases of the covid virus in Zambia if he is doing the tests.Math & Science tell us that ,the more u do the tests,is the more u draw closer to answer or expected results. So, it shd be ” the more they do the tests, the more the covids cases shd go up.As numbers were low becos pipo had not been tested yet. & eventually the numbers shd start going down when the entire country had been tested and everyone detected is on medicine. This is the most effective way it works. Not by mere ZNBC announcements.

  21. No human should take credit of this but only God and lets continue to pray to God for our country if USA can cry then who are we only God.

  22. Kojak- you hit the nail on the head we must look after ourselves by following the WHO of washing hands and educating our friends and family on fighting the Virus China has unleashed on the world. if it can take the UK PM of the G7 most powerful nations it can take us , we are not immune.
we must be pro active not like SICHALWE telling us to pray and hope for the best. be proactive

  23. The Zambian government has done and is doing a great job. I hope western countries learn from us and many other African countries. And for those claiming the results might not be accurate because of the sample size etc must realise that these tests were not random but on people who of high risk to be carrying the virus. So far 619 tests have been conducted and 39 have been positive. If the UK, USA had our numbers, there would be no lockdown and business would be as normal… but the Zambian government is being cautious.. which is good, very good.

  24. Thats because you are only following the Pakistani cohort. Meanwhile others have entered long before, and after. Unfollowed because they were fever-less on entry.

But like China we can ignore that aspect. Treat covid cases discreetly, and allow economic activity to normalize. Maybe that will gain you some popularity for the coming elections.
