Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata has described as a taboo the move by some unscrupulous people in Ndola to build houses in graveyards.
Ms. Kapata said this today when she called on Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe in Ndola.
ZANIS reports that Ms. Kapata has since directed the Copperbelt provincial administration to ensure what she termed as ‘ thugs’ hiding in the name of the party are arrested and charged.
And Mr. Mwakalombe assured the Minister that the province will be on top of things in ensuring that illegalities in land allocation is not entertained.
Mr. Mwakalombe said people should learn to follow the law.
Kawama and Mitengo cemeteries in Ndola have been invaded by unscrupulous people who have built houses in spaces reserved for burying the dead.
My prayer is that brother Kaizer Zulu use a language befitting a child of GOD and a seasoned civil servant. I know he can do it. His passion for Zambia must be exercised with godly wisdom.

This is unacceptable. After making a few calls and demanding answers, I was informed by my intelligence team that majority of those doing this are those who are desperate to build. It has also been revealed that mostly it is those with relatives in diaspora where by the diasporan is sending little money but demanding land and a house. Out of desperation and fear these relatives are cutting corners and building in such areas. Do not worry we are demolishing them all. To my friends in diaspora tough luck all your money wasted on illegal structures

She has lamentably failed at this ministry. Such a critical resource should have been presided over by an independent critical mind with practical solutions. Now all councils might be suspended country wide bcoz the policy formulation capacity simply doesn’t exist.
The Ndola city council needs investigating. They began such corrupt practices long ago when someone at the civic center began allocating all parks and open spaces for plots. Just start looking at the city’s parks from city center to north rise kansenshi Hillcrest and you will find houses being built there nowadays
