Mayuka Rejoins Under-20 Team

Kabwe Warriors striker Emmanuel Mayuka has rejoined the Zambia Under-20 team at its Lusaka training camp ahead of the team’s departure for Mauritius tomorrow, Thursday.

The team departs for Mauritius at 07:40 ahead of Saturdays 2009 Caf Africa Youth Championship 1st round, return leg match against Mauritius to be played in Curipipe on Saturday.
Mayuka had late last week been excused from training camp to attend a family bereavement.

The player arrived back in camp today to complete Oswald Mutapa’s final 18-man squad ahead of Saturday’s fixture.

Mayuka was the Under-20 teams top scorer at last Decembers Cosafa Youth Championship in South Africa with 4 goals from 3 group matches before the side bowed out early in the 1st round group stage.
He is also top scorer this season with 8 competitive goals since the start of the year in all competition.

The Warriors striker was one of 3 teenage players from the senior team recalled to bolster Under-20 coach Oswald Mutapa’s team ahead of the 2nd leg match against Mauritius this weekend.

The other two, striker Roger Kola and midfielder Stophira Sunzu, both of Zanaco, have since pulled out to attend to contractual and trial commitments in Russia and France respectively.

Kola is heading for Spartak Moscow while Sunzu is attending trials at French Ligue 2 side Chateauroux.

Meanwhile, Zambia enjoys a slender 1-0 lead over Mauritius from the 1st leg played on June 29 at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka with the winner there scored in the 18th minute of the 1st half by Nchanga Rangers midfielder Tom Bakala.

However, the Rangers midfielder will not be traveling with the team to Mauritius after being ruled out of the final return leg due to injury.
