Zambian Players Transfer Round-up

Share

We run down the movers and non-movers for Zambian players as the international players transfer window enters its penultimate month of business.

Starting in South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns deny having any interest in signing Zambia striker Collins Mbesuma after speculation that he would be joining the 8-time South African league champions.

Mbesuma is clubless after his 3-year deal with Turkish side Bursaspor was terminated in May due to poor form just a year gone into the deal.

And ex-Zambia and Chambishi FC striker Davies Mwape has confirmed he is staying at relegated South African side Jomo Cosmos.

Mwape had an uneventful first season with Cosmos on their way down to division 1 from the Premier League after joining from ambitious promotion playoff side FC AK.

He previously played for Orlando Pirates whom he joined from Chambishi in 2005.

And Zesco United and Zambia midfielder Rainford Kalaba today left for Portugal to begin 4-year deal with Sporting Braga.

Kalaba’s departure for Braga has been on hold for the last 3 weeks due to a delay in the issuing of his Portuguese work permit that came through this week.

And Zambia and Power Dynamos defensive midfielder Francis Kasonde set to join Doxa Katokopia of Cyprus on short-term deal.

Doxa finished 9th on the Cypriot top-flight table last season.

Kasonde is the fourth Zambia player and former Under-23 player heading for Cyprus in the last 7 days after the Young Arrows dup of defender Joseph Zimba and midfielder Timothy Mbewe including Forest Rangers striker Christopher Musonda.

Meanwhile, the biggest mover so far from the Zambian fold abroad has been that of Zamabia and Zanaco striker Roger Kola to Russian side Spartak Moscow on a 6-month deal.

It is likely to be extended to 2-years should he impress during the remainder of the Russian top-flight campaign that ends in December that will reportedly be worth US$ 200,000.00.

Spartak are currently 4th on the table after 12 matches played this season.

  1. Its gud news for zambian football. The only thing i would like to urge all these players is to be discpline if they are to excel in their careers…

  2. We need 2 more Goalies to get out of Zambian league, especially those from Under 20. Its not smart to depend on Mweene only. The Rasta Kalilo is not that best. The task lies on Renart and Lwandamina to gather all those lost prayers, especially in Scandinavia there a lot of them. Those going to Cyprus, Malaysia and Israel might be first to be forgotten. Lets hope the will stop depending on South African based prayers.

  3. Gud moves. Guys go and teach them how to score and drible. But be desplined. Let us send as many players 2 euro so that we have a strong and wider selection of natimal team players. What is happening to mbesuma guys?

  4. There is nothing to be excited about here. Okay quite good for the players as they will be anything something better than in the mediocre Zambian league. But in terms of player development where thye are going, its zero. Maybe Kola at Spartak Moscow of which I doubt.

  5. Second sentence I meant to say…..Okay quite good for the players as they will be earning something better than the mediocre Zambian league.

  6. #3 Wibilima just a correction brother, did you mean “players?” instead of “prayers”. Anyway i know some people use R in L, in ZED. Back to business, signing players to CYPRUS, that sucks and it means we have a long way to go. Why not England, Spain, Germany, Holland, Italy, Belgium, France, list goes on, that’s the sign we still need good players to play in the top clubs of the world. We cannot call these players in Cyprus or Asia as our top cream players, if Malawi, Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique can have their players in the best leagues, why can’t we do it? Zambia has a very long way to go and i don’t think it will happen soon.

  7. These boys are better off in youth teams or second league teams in England, Holland, France, Belgium and Germany, Spain that how west africans start.
    Did someone say Cyprus?

  9. the ball is not about the country the player goes but the commitments that the players attaches.an example is our finished mbesuma .good clubs have a tendency of finishing our players.infact it is even better for for our players to play in our local leagues just like most of the egyptian players.

  10. i remember the likes of godfrey chitalu, efford chabala, mweetwa, john soko, etc.the guys had the country at heart.they played for the local leagues and indeed were a force to reckon with.may there souls rest in peace

  11. But guys look here, nowadays for someone to be known as a best player he has to be on the best team in the world or your country. #12 Liwewe if you can recall, the likes of John Soko, Efford Chabala, Mweetwa, they all played in a very competitive league compared to the players we have now. So you can’t tell me none of these players want to play outside Zambia. It is a dream come true for every player to sign a contract outside Zambia, that means alot MORE MONEY and better their careers.

  12. Geeeeee!!!!….CYPRUS…..!!! here we go again rushing into

signing what ever comes ur way… for pete’s sake c’mon is this

jus about getting a professional status or fooling around with

their careers or what….no wonder we still perform like crap

in big tournaments i would rather they played for ZAMALEK OR

    ESPERANCE…!!this is a pure/total waste of talent…*who even

talks about cyprus this is worse than a player going to russia*

there is no time for trial and error in soccer..a soccer career

has a very short lifespan..*ATI NI BA PROFESSIONAL ATASE KU

CYPRUS* am afraid to say but its hurts me to read stuff like

    this about out players.. people..!!

  13. SPOT ON #14. Naba pwa uku baya at ba pro. Babwela ku Zambia kulanwafye chibuku. After a year or so bapya. Kulalombafye chibuku no tushiki twafwaka mu biyaholo. Shame.

  14. Do not end up like ba Andrew Tembo, who is now delivering newspapers to homes in Denmark, while aba kashi is a cleaner

  15. #16 Anonymous, we cannot be luaghing at Andrew Tembo’s job now. You that’s the tipical Zambian mentality of laughing at someone’s job. He is making a living by doing that than coming back home(zed) where now everyone in the streets will laugh at him more. We all should respect others.Look at the players who came back at playing in Europe or Asia the likes of Litana, Wawa, etc. Nowander Msisika, Johnstone Bwalya, Charlie Musonda,Stone Nyirenda etc why they chose to stay in europe and begin their families there.Shame we laugh at someone’s job, he need to pay the bills and take care of his family as well too.

  16. I think a lot of you chaps are overestimating the players we have in Zed. You think that they can just walk into the first team in Spain, England, Germany etc? If you look at the last CAN our players don’t have the technical ability of other teams out there. Lets face facts, our league is poor and even if someone stars in it, there is no guarantee that they will make it on the big stage. Look at Kola, the guy went to Madrid on trial, they didn’t want him, they offered him to their sister club in the lower division and they even refused. This is the chap that is leading our scoring charts. Everyone needs to start somewhere and believe me Cyprus might be more their level, if they are

  17. cont.

dedicated, then they will catch the eye of other teams. Look at Yakubu, the chap started off in Isreal and is now one of the most lethal players in the EPL. Why should you guys laugh at these playes simply because they are trying to better themselves?!

  18. Can someone or LT let us know which club(s) are busy during this transfer window that is local front.(kcm Premier league)

  19. Hahaha,ba andrew basebana, mwape must be a cook and the wife the waiter.mbesuma must try sumo wrestling, chap is big.which club is willin to have their top man havin a pot belly like state council’s?may be a rugby team.lets hope those guys goin to cyprus and russia plus france wil improve,if they dont,we can throw them in the national parks, not as lions food, but as hunters.

  20. #22 SHI MPUNDU,you’re very funny man. I like the way you broke it down about Mbesuma and the rest of the guys. Keep it up and make us laugh. This site need people like you.

  21. Fact of the matter, we do not have quality players to go to big time leagues. Anyway if having players in good leagues is the answer to winning Nigeria , Senegal would be on top all the time but they are not. Egypt who beat the crap out of Drogbas Ivory at Afcon, 99% of their players play in the local league.
My point is we need to get organised at grassroot level and develeop quality players localy before we start expecting good results or players going to High profile legues!! Cyprus , Angola, Sudan, Malaysia takwa bola uku!

  22. #24 Iwe Mbuzi…we do have quality players…they jus dont get

the Exposure needed to be snapped up..and thats were i place

the blameon FAZ..how do u expect european scouts to come and

watch zambia vs Bostwana friendly…? maybe scouts from

southafrica look at countries like Nigeria, Cameroon,

Ghana..they play their friendlies in Europe and get spotted..

Lucky Katongo’s Cosmos played Brondby in few friendlies and

they liked the boy and Bought him but u cant rely on Luck

u have to go out there and get ur self exposed..but anyway..!!

  23. If i may put my two cents in, everyone seems to be missing the point completely. It does not matter whether you are good or not, it is the training and coaching you receive. I mean, people teach chimpanzees to talk, that is no mean feat i tell you.

Question: How many certified professional coaches and scouts do we have with certified licenses in the country?

Question: Do we even have a proper scouting network to spot genuine talent?

Question: What happens to the schoolboy talent that is produced year in year out?

If memory serves me correctly, I have only heard of one who got a Pro Level A license and before we could turn around, another country had snapped up his services.

  24. Notwithstanding, the current football structure is badly organized where talent scouting and retaining is concerned. In the days of the John Sokos and the Chabalas, Zambian football was actually continentally competitive AT CLUB LEVEL. It doesnt matter where the “Pros” come from, but if the supporting cast is not of a competitive level you wont get results.

Then there is the infrastructure. Business houses, government and yes FAZ need to get a grip and wake up. People are talking about exposure exposure, but where do you get the youth to hone their skills, and what incentives do you give them to hone their skills? The parks, playgrounds are being replaced by concrete jungles, and thats bad
