Several UPND candidates for Parliamentary and Local Government seats petitions results in Mkushi District

Several United Party for National Development(UPND) candidates for Parliamentary and Local Government seats have petitioned the election results in Mkushi District.

Spokesperson for the Petitioners, Melson Chilemu says that candidates who contested in the recent general elections have petitioned results for Mkushi North Parliamentary seat, Council Chairperson, as well as eight local government seats.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Chilemu explains that the now ruling party is challenging the results due to electoral malpractices he alleged to have occurred during voting on 12 August.

“Mal – practices were there and we have the evidence to prove that they had a bearing on the election results for parliamentary, council chairperson and local government seats that were won by the Patriotic Front (PF) candidates”, he said.

He named the disputed local government seats as Chalata, Musakamba, Nkolonga and Matuku.

Others are Chikanda, Kabengeshi, Munshibemba and Chitina.

Mr. Chilemu, who was UPND candidate for Council Chairperson (CC), said that his party is confident that they would be addressed promptly.

PF candidate’s Christopher Chibuye of PF won the North Constituency parliamentary seat with 16,459 against his closest rival Topson Kunda of UPND who got 14,913 votes.

PF’s Evans Bwalya had won the Council Chairperson position with 15,005 votes against his closest rival Melson Chilemu who got 13,995 votes.

The UPND however won seven of the 16 local government seats and have petitioned the remainder lost to PF.

  1. Lets not chock the PF by petitioning certain eats they are already a defeated lot. We should not let them die because we need them to make some noise in the name of our young democracy. We know how they abused office and carried a very unfair campaign. It will be a waste of time and resources. Lets show them how to run public affairs and create a new culture of transparency and accountability when in holding public office

  2. The majority of seats in Western (except Nalolo that was not contested by the UPND), North Western and Southern Provinces have been won by the UPND. Surely, you also want to have even yet another seat in Muchinga? C’mon, can we move on.

  3. Please petition Kabushi constituency seat…there is overwhelming evidence of Bowman distributing mealie meal to residents

  4. LETS NOT HAVE THE PF WAYS , AS THE CURRENT NUMBERS IN PARLAIMENT ARE OK
FOR US TO HAVE A STRONG DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM NOW WHERE THE UPDN SHOULD OVER RULE ALL , NO
LET THOSE WHO JUST BE LOSERS AS THAT

  5. We should never allow malpractice in our Elections. Those with adequate evidence of irregularities and illegalities must be Petitioned to improve our Constitutional Democracy. There shouldn’t any pity on those PF Candidates who won Elections thru unfair means.

  6. One of the first things PF did wrong was to endlessly petition seats won by MMD. I don’t know how many by-elections there were (…it it’s Tuesday, there must be another round of voting?) but was one of the party’s first steps to becoming unpopular. So, be careful – UPND won and no one likes a sore winner.

  7. Driving from Lusaka to the Copperbelt months ago just to be stopped at Kafulafuta by Police and told that me and many other vehicles should wait for Kampyongo and Kanganja to join the road as they were coming from a meeting at Kafulafuta, and kept on the road for over 45 minutes, just imagine, such labbish must come to an end please

  8. edwin zulu – We should have zero tolerance towards electoral malpractice especially what we witnessed in the just ended elections…where former ministers were handing out K100 like tickets and had imposed no go areas by that small chap Stephen Kampyongo
