MMD NEC to have the final say on the adoption process

MMD chairperson for elections Gabriel Namulambe has instructed lower organs of the party entrusted with adopting candidates ahead of this year’s tripartite elections not to issue any statements to the media regarding pre-election adoptions.

And Mr Namulambe has asked Chongwe Member of Parliament (MP) Sylvia Masebo to state her position on which platform she wants to re-contest her seat.

He has also warned that candidates should not declare themselves as having been adopted following their victory at pre-constituency elections because such declarations could only be done after approval by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

At a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday held at the MMD secretariat, Mr Namulambe said the adoption process was continuing in all the constituencies and was progressing well.

He said the MMD’s goal was to ensure that the party won the elections, adding that the issue of any candidate coming out first at constituency level was less important.

“I want to inform the MMD lower organs that the process is ongoing and there should not be any issues of people declaring themselves as having been adopted after winning the pre-constituency elections.

“This is not the case because there are other things that need to be determined before adopting anybody,” Mr Namulambe said.

He said candidates should wait until they received their adoption certificates signed by himself and the party national secretary, Richard Kachingwe.

Mr Namulambe said the notion that whoever came first at the lower organ would be automatically adopted was misleading.

He said there were other interviews that would be conducted by the provincial executive committee, with the final being NEC.

“So it is after the approval by NEC that candidates are adopted, this business of candidates declaring themselves as having been adopted is neither here nor there and it is therefore too early to announce who has been adopted,” he said.

He also said the perceived differences in Chiengi Constituency did not exist and that jealousy people were the ones spreading reports that there was confusion in the adoption process.

Mr Namulambe said the party would wait to know on what party platform Ms Masebo wanted to re-contest her seat.

  1. Hahahaha is it because THE SOME OF US like Micheal Mabenga lost at constituency level? Dont impose leaders on people other wise you will lose. Mabenga is not wanted period!

  2. This is BS, just a waste of peoples time.Just skip the whole voting process and let NEC(Not an Electoral Commision) impose the candidates.

  3. Actually Primary elections best determines the preferred candidate by the voters. Any thing less than is imposition.

  4. Namulambe is a dull rug.Masebo has refused to recontest her seat so why should she be required to state otherwise? Is this a sign of MMD desperation? Should the NEC go against the wishes of the grassroots MMD will be thoroughly beaten in this years elections.

  5. @7 Gorilla man,

I don’t think RB was sincere when he issued that statement because he is in history of Imposing candidates on people. He has already set a precedent on how MMD party elections should be conducted. Namulambe is just following RB’s foot steps,

  6. Ku Luapula uko naikaba. MMD will be picking up the pieces after the elections. If it is not careful, that will be the end of the party. UNIP inashansha because of the properties that it has. MMD has nowt.

  7. Ms Masebo is contesting her seat under UPND…..information obtain from UPND secretariat, that, they will not realise any names to the media like other parties do just to show that, they are popular… UPND will swept all the seats in at least 4 provinces.. MMD have very slim chance to win these elections….Lets wait and see..!!! All headmen, in chongwe has endorsed HH, where do you think she will go….and stand in these election….her friend Magande’s party is nine starter….?

  8. “And Mr Namulambe has asked Chongwe Member of Parliament (MP) Sylvia Masebo to state her position on which platform she wants to re-contest her seat….” She is not obliged you dunderhead. She has refused to apply on your party and it ends there the rest is non of your business you Mpongwe villager.

  9. Of course you are all aware that all PF candidates have been handipicked by their dictator and are already in the field campaigning. MMD is making a major sacrifice by going through this process. Of course, you Pali Fwaka supporters praise everything Sata does.

  10. Zambia is a free country and Ms Silvia Masebo is free to contest on any ticket she wishes including as an independent. However as a matter of principle she needs to resign from her elected position as Chairperson for women in MMD if she decides to take that route. It is good to leave like a lady. You may one day wish to come back.

  11. Problem Namulambe likes authority too much!!!!! Ala yufwa sana mambala. I do not forget one experience with him when he was PS North Western Province. Ala kacabe-cabe!!!!!!!!

  12. Constituency and district selection of MMD candidates is just window dressing, the real candidates will be picked by RB himself.

  13. These people have nothing to offer in terms of democracy. To much dictatorial tendencies in the party. So now they want to impose their goons on people and RB relatives, what a shame!

  14. This is good news, continue imposing candidates on the masses and grant us PF a land slide victory on the advantages of your most unpopular imposed candidates.

  15. So in MMD nawadays there is nothing like losing a primary election, where is the voice of the grassroots then? just asking.

  16. Ni Pa Bwato. Namulambe is useless. How do you ask someone who has refused to stand to state where she will stand. Nimbwa

  17. EX -SERVINCE MEM AT WORK.WHAT IS SHIKAPWASHS SAYING AND YET HE IS VERY MUCH A CHI EX SERVINCE MAN AND WOMAN. FROM HIS FACE YOU CAN SEE THAT HE IS FEERING THE EX SERVINCE MEN.YOUR EATING BWINO.
