Ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Chisamba Member of Parliament Moses Muteteka has described the defection of late president Levy Mwanawasa’s son Patrick to the opposition Patriotic Front as a big blow to the Mwanawasa legacy.
The Deputy Minister reveals that he was grooming Patrick for future leadership in the MMD but has described it as unfortunate for Patrick to join the opposition.
Mr. Muteteka, who is also ruling MMD National Youth Chairman and a relative to late President Mwanawasa, said as a family they wished Patrick all the best but as a politician, he will meet him in the forthcoming campaigns.

A few days ago, Patrick joined the Patriotic Front and applied to contest the Kafulafuta parliamentary seat on the PF ticket.
Leave the boy alone for once!
Patrick’s move will not be a big blow to MMD. Rather it has removed some points from the opposition. There is no leadership in him. Even at Chengelo School he was not a prefect!
Who says Ichengelo is the Leadership Training Collehe, when we all know that Zambia has become one huge poverty trap?
If the Father was a politician, does it mean the whole family become politicians. These are the Chaps who failed at school and can not get a job anywhere. He is too young to join politics. Politics is the last game to play in life.
With or without Patrick MMD continues to win and win with a land slide Victory
Who told you that politics is the game of old people, you are the same fools who are now saying that no,RB IS OLD,no SATA IS OLDER THAN HH,NO THIS AND THAT…….WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO CHAGE BA MAKAKA…..
he can win the seat beating Ba mudala ba mpombo. lol.:-?:-? nipa zambia. how many uneducated mps do we have? many!!! his going to have the help of a tactian and the post. vote wisely people of kafulafuta. god bless even the thief that comes to steal.
Patrick has leadership image, but for now he needs coarching. best if he could first get a job in managerial position in a company with problematic management system. i gained more by working in a companying which had management challenges.
Just like an Chengelo, at University, Heffordshire Universisty university in the UK, i do not think he did very well. others who were close to him says he wasn’t really that good in all. all the best tohim in PF though.
abena patrick whats going on kanshi?? you know getting advice from smokers and people from bars might not be wise sometimes. after some beers, people get wiser…… not!!lol
Really, I also feel he is too young to join politics. Why did’nt he concentrate on furthering his education and join politics later? Because even in parliament its better to be exemplary and urgue with facts instead of just asking questions like “how much money was raised from the sale of UBZ” i.e. 17 years after the collapse of the company”. If you are given the figures so what? With all the resources he has at his disposal he could have even finished his masters by now. Poor chap!!!!!
This no news to comment. Let me spare my time
What do people mean by “young”?
If the Constitution of Zambia qualifies him, he is not young for the position he aspires to occupy.
PATRICK IS AN ADULT SO STOP REFERING HIM AS BOY AND HE SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE AND LET HIM DECIDE WHATS TO DO IN LIFE.WELCOME TO PF YOUNG MAN THE BOAT HAS PLACE FOR MANY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU.AND WISH MADAME MAUREEN WOULD ALSO JOIN THE BOAT.
VJ STARTED AT 21 PATRICK AT 28.SO WAT?Qualification for you to become MP in Zambia.Know how to read and write english.Must not have been convicted for the last 5 years.Must be above 21 years old.patrick is eligible. He meets the standards. He is couragious than most bloggers here who always insult and write trash under fake identies.
I Thot he’s in his late teens. Thanks for the information and can all those bragging about stop taking about him being young. Most men of his age have more than 2 kids.
A blow to MMD??? thats ubsurd. he is just a lost son and soon he will come back to the victors of 2011 Elections, that is MMD. im just worried that the young man will soon become the massive smoker like all of his colleagues in PF.
The constitution states that you qualify to stand as mp at 21 and equally qualify to stand for presidency at 35
so there is nothing wrong with Patrick standing.in the Australian parley, the youngest is 24
Well Its his choice, however this should also be his turning point in Life CHANGE IN BEHAVIUOR IF YOU ARE VYING FR SUCH POSITION-
Mwambile
PHD syndrome will never end pa Zed. Patrick is free to join politics like any other citizen. In fact, we need more young people to be politically activate rather than recycling UNIP politicians. Good luck Patrick.
Who says politics or Parliament is meant for old people only. How old was Mwaanga when he joined politics? How old was Rupiah Banda when he joined politics? Leave the young man alone after all anyone can be a member of parliament in Zambia. If anything the Zambian parliament is the most boring and the most useless in the world. Turn on to Parliament Radio and you will hear how ministers get away with murder when they answer questions, some of which are quite childish.
But was he a member of MMD? or he was just the son of a member of MMD.Secretary general Kachingwe has refuted his claim to MMD membership.
I wish he was old enough to remember how Sata mistreated his father. There is an element of immaturity and desparation for a constituency to stand on.
Joke of the year! I was at school with this guy and he was verbally and pychologically abused by Maureen Kakubo who hated him because her own son and ‘heir’ to the Mwanawasa legacy, Matolo, was retarded. Where has the confidence come from Ba Patrick? Just because you now know “how to wear bamba”, you think can represent the people of Kafulafuta? Sata will use your name and dribble you. Chiluba is dead, the only real competition Sata had. You have no one to advise you mwaice. But remember who called your daddy ‘cabbage’. Mwaice don’t eat vomit. Chill.
Muloza Mwayanvela ? What gave regina the audacity to call Vera her elder sister… she must have developed some serious guts or the chaps that edited her speach are equally foolish.
Point of correction she and Vera can’t be sisters, she snatched “bally 1” from Vera and the children selfish shallow gold digging *****.
This is the point i say i wish Castro was about he would have shown her her place.
Just because Levy Mwanawasa was a good president and politician, it does not mean that his soon will be a good politician too. Mwanawasa was an educated lawyer who understood politics and Patrick failed his first degree in the UK.
Why do sons of politicians like Panji Kaunda, Patrick Mwanawasa or Tilyenji Kaunda think they would be good politicians just because their fathers were presidents? Being a politician is not genetic.
I have great respect for Chiluba’s children because they have never joined politics even when their father brought multipartism and democracy to Zambia.
Patrick, go to school and get a real job.
Imwe naimwe, who among Chiluba’s sons can become a politician?
#18 But suppose Mwanawasa was a ‘cabbage’. What are the arguments here? In politics there are no enemies, just opponents. You do not make permanent enemies with your political opponents. Let this chap with what ever little intelligence he may have, join any party. Chiluba called KK all sorts of names. Today KK is shedding a tear or two for him. No hard feelings!!
PATRICK WILL WOULD WIN IN KAFULAFUTA, WHETHER FOR MMD, PF UPND OR
EVEN AS AN INDEPENDENT. MWANAWASA UNLIKE CHILUBA LEFT OUR MOUTHS WITH A SOMEWHAT SWEET TASTE. WITH CHILUBA OUR MOUTHS WERE LEFT BITTER.
ANY CHILD OF LPM WOULD WIN AN ELECTION IN ZAMBIA. MAUREEN SHOULD NOT EVEN TRY. THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION.
PF cadres, does someone know the inside story about all this? Has Patrick actually been nominated to stand on the PF ticket in Kafulafuta?
I am struggling to understand how that can happen unless, of course, it was a sole decision by Mr. Sata. I thought all aspirants in any constituencies are supposed to apply and vetted by the consituency Committee for approval to the PF Central Committee.
PF cadres I am just wondering aloud about the democracy in your party.
thats a good age for political career. At 35 years u will be better than HH in terms of experience.if you don’t destroy your vision like VJ u can be a President. Wish u the best.
I dont think its a blow to the MMD because he was insignificant to the party. Ministers must learn to put up correct analysis. Patrick is just probably looking for a livelihood.
Not too young, not too young imwe mwe fikopo.
Those who are encouraging young Patrick to venture into politics, will sincerely NEVER advise their own sons into this game of uncertainty – especially for young lads without a credible profession to lean on. PF has no qualms for Patrick’s future but merely wish use him for their own gain – knowing very well that PF is fast losing ground in Copperbelt, Luapula and Lusaka provinces. If Sata was ever a caring parent, he would have advised the boy to concentrate in furthering his education. It is cruel and sane for adult politicians to spoil other people’s children.
i don’t waste my time reading rubish. i opened this article only because i was curious how patrick’s defection would affect the mmd. but obviously the heading is wrong, what hon muteteka is saying is that patrick’s defection would dent the mwanawasa legacy as in how patrick could succumb to the serpent which tormented his father, and which has nothing to offer in terms of leadership as hh discovered.
we shall never develop as a country if we dont offer constructive criticism. The father wanted patrick 2do law bt he never liked dats why the perfomance at school was not ok.He went for business admin n he graduated,we dnt all need 2b lawyers. Its ok 4 him 2b an mp at 28 koz da minimum is 21 he will have experience debating in parliament unlike other party presidents
@27 DS Malama, that is the cobra for you, a manifestation of evil itself. you have seen its fangs, scales, colours and all else during the funeral of fjt who had mistakenly considered it a friend.
#28 well spotted. There are bloggers here that can not even read what this tiny little article is about. It shows we have a lot of dull bloggers that just open their mouths/fingers anyhow
Childern of doctors sometimes become doctors themslves, children of footballers sometomes become footballers themselves, so why woudnt a politicians son become a politician him self ?. To the topic at hand, i have worked with MMD in lusaka and i think change is ripe.
Let patrick exercise his constituational rights of his choice.Chiluba brought democracy bane period.
is LEGACY a new word in Zambia? Because the misuse of it is appalling.
The behaviour of Patrick has shown as serious gap in the late President Mwanawasa family. The family lacks leadership.where is the family counsellor for the family? how could Patrick forget so soon what SATA was saying about his late father while he was on his sick bed.is this the kind of man u want to work with?
I don’t see why this should create a fuss. This boy is a political nonentity, he has no political agenda excerpt that his father was once a president of this land. MMD did not adopt the boy and so, he saw an opportunity in the opposition. If the boy is going to ride on his fathers name and win the seat, we can only blame the voters for being political immature. We don’t need people or boys that ride on some name, rather, we need leaders to serve the masses. As musch as he has a right to do what he wants, he could be diving into an endless pit head-on.
@Ruin police……Hahaaaaa….you have reminded me of those sweet moments at the University of Zambia. How ever, the real RUPO was a level headed one and you may have adopted a wrong name. Patrick is a nobody and just a misguided yourng man, who Iam told, spends his moments irresponsibly drinking beer. If the people of Masiti vote for him because of his name, then too bad…they will suffer the consequences.. So, does it mean that PF did not have a suitable candidate for Masaiti…or is it that Patrick is more suitable?
Mulichibe ba emuemudi
yaaAHH Abena ZED, what do you want?? Others are too old and others too young?? Educated people can’t makeup their minds. Life is too short so any time is the right time young or old lets play the game and contribute.Jesus was young and he left made an impact. Use your time now and not tomorrow and being the best at school is not the only answer to perfomance.
Kanga Nubian Princess ufumaneha kai nito kucha?
# 30 you are an i d i o t. Are you saying it must take the lame duck upnd ( tonga) part president to tell you that there are no leadership qualities in Ba Sata? You people you cant think unless lame duck thinks for and tell you what to say. The problem is you think lame is the only educated Tonga in Zambia. What does he have interms of eduacation which you have not achieved. The money that he has is stollen from the privatisation process which he presided over. He has destroyed a once promissing part built by Mazoka through hard work. How can you even compare leadership qualities with those of Sata. Sata has something to show. He has built PF the part with the largest following in Zambia and what has your ICHILEMA built? Be wise you fools and dont think with your tribe. Think with your hea
Why don’t you just leave him alone he knows what is right for one self keep it up Patrick that is the rule of the game we are all behind you. MMD don’t think that the people you are parading when you hold rally’s will vote for you most of them just want kick backs wait until the election day. Znbc news time is only MMD why…..
