Preparations for the first ever Patriotic Front General conference to be held at the Mulungushi rock of authority in Kabwe from the 2nd-5th July, 2011, have reached an advanced stage with party General secretary Winter Kabimba calling on all bonafide party members to freely participate.
Unlike the usual system by most political parties of electing leaders for various party positions, the delegates to the PF convention will only elect the party president and members of the central committee.
Party general secretary Winter Kabimba explains that the PF’s general conference is unique from any other party’s convention as it gives party members the full authority to appoint their leaders.
Mr. Kabimba says the party’s electoral system is deliberately designed to promote unity in the party.
He explains to QFM that once members of the central committee are elected, it is the responsibility of the party president to make appointments to various party positions.
Mr. Kabimba says any bonafide member of the party is free to challenge the incumbent party leader Michael Sata as the party is democratic.
[ QFM ]
vote wisely vote PF
All the very best guys! you are the voice of the voiceless and the only formidable opposition in Zambia. Godbless!!!
Its good to see some semblance of democracy being practiced within PF. My only conern is why allow the party president to make appointments to varoius party positions? What if i dont like the position given, how will i perform to the best of my ability?
Is PF democratic? I doubt.
this is nonsense…
This looks like giving too much power to the president to hire and fire. The same thing that we have seen in all parties. As long as its the delegates who choose the members of the central committe without intimidation, we may have a winning team here.
thats the way to go pabwatttooooooooooooooooooooo
Manyozo Forwarding party at it again…………………
VIZENDE IVO………………! :-w
What Democracy is this? You know a leader for his strengths in a particular field, vote for him and then he doesnt get utilised? We expected better of this Party! Pity the members who will have leaders emposed on them by their President. All that this means is that the Party does not and will never respect the will of the people. This system leaves room for the president to appoint only those he wants to regardless of how popular they are with the members! Imagine if the MMD had a similar system. What would have been of Masebo, Namulambe, Lumba, Mutati, Muteteka and Mangani! Anyone that gets the most votes to be in the MCC is prone to victimisation by the president! Just dont bring this sham to Government.
#8&9 I think vizende are Zambians who allowed FTJ to plunder under their nose and that includes you and me.
Not that we could have done anything but yes.
Totally insane, this is a Party that came within a whisker of forming government last elections. Surely we as Zambians, are we insane enough to begin our own disaster by placing this Party into power?
#10 Correct analysis! The PF needs to revist this arrangement where the president has power to appoint and disaapoint elected members of the Central Committee. This is a trademark of dictatorial govts. I believe he should only choose his cabinet and that it, no more. Certainly there will be no separation of power once they form govt as he will have both fingers in the party and govt. MCC must choose their party positions based on skills and not the president to impose whom he likes regardless of the ability to deliver on the job.
This is the time for Lubinda to stand for president of the party so that they can vote out the monister (SATA) who is now tired.
Ha ha ha he he he, cant wait to watch this circus.
VIVA PF. LETS SHOW THEM THAT WE ARE FORMING THE NEXT GOVERNMENT, NOT BA SHIMWE SHIMWE BA MMD. KUYA BEBELE
Ba fyatile this is the same thing that occurs in the labor party in the uk. the only elected person is the leader who in turn appoints the nec or shadow cabinet
we are not in britain we are in africa where people dont honor their word
Before you know it,every civil servant will be appointed by Sata if by any chance he finds himself in state house.typical of one party state stupidity.this man is so power hungry tht the hunger for power on his face shudders my spine.wat is the point of going to a convention when at the end of the day only Sata will decide who gets which party position, and you continue yapping of democracy???
THOUGH OUT OF LINE GET THIS CLEARLY. LUSAKA TIMES FOR MMD, ZAMBIAN WATCHDOG FOR UPND, POST NEWSPAPER AND MUVI FOR PF. WHICH PARTY HAS A WIDE COVERAGE?
@#6/12. Exactly my point. I personally expected PF to positively out do all of them! To make matters worse PF has no bona fide members (No members’ registers/card carrying members)! What guarantee is there that the people in attendance will be ones to vote freely and the electionsnot be stage managed. The other thing this flaw allow is that it allows for those with money to sponser people to the convention so as to vote and indeed only those sponsored will make it to the convention.
#12 Uko – No one has ever been elected to PF party positions. All of them are appointees, and ofcourse appointed by Cobra himself. That is why I call the upcoming ‘General conference’ a circus not to be missed by those who want a good laugh.he he he ha ha ha ……….
so democracy will exist only at prsidential and NEC. Thereafter it will one man rule (autocracy). This is a strage type of democracy.
Common my fellow zambians, sata can never (1) be president of zambia (2), he’s just wrong. IT’s insanity to infinity to vote. Believe you me,RB and MMD have already carried the victory for this election. I dont support any party, but MMD is the only zero option that zambians have. We need a new crop of leaders fortunately, they are slowly dripping on the platform now.
If Zambians were not such a stupi.d people (including myself), we would not have been wasting time discussing Mr Sata today. When we noticed his bad traits many years ago during his UNIP days when he was a young man, or even during his early MMD days, we would have guided him to grow into a responsible citizen with a heart for his country and his brethren if he wanted to be a leader in this nation. If he failed to change, we would have discarded and consigned him to the archives of history many years ago. Instead we have treated him all these years the same way that we treat our spoilt brats in our own families. That today Mr Sata is even being considered for political office is an indictment on all of us Zambians, our collective failure as parents, and our collective stu.pidity.
#22 katie, i wish we had more minds like yours!
Katie Good,
In Sata we have a psychopath renegade gone loose, who has managed to take advantage of our st.u.pidity, canvassing a following enough to threaten to undone all the little achievement we might have made as a nation. Sata, as you have put it, is a self made problem.
”General secretary Winter Kabimba calling on all bonafide party members to freely participate”.
And who are the members since PF has no party cards and members register?not even Cobra himself is a member.zooona ni Pa Fwaka. ha ha ha he he he.
#14 the circus ur referring to will be very organised and far more organised that ur MMD circus.@10 and 13, you are reacting becoz this is new to you and as usual  Sata brings new things but workable.1. This is good for the party, just like Ministers are appointed and fired, party leaders must be appointed to enhance performance. Our MPs are non functional becoz once elected they go to sleep awaiting another election year.Look at it also from this angle not always talking abt democracy. what has the so called democracy done to Zmb? we were better with KK than with Chiluba 2. Cadres elect members based on how much he has for shake shake and not on qualification.as long as u have money for shake shake u will go thru. Are u saying cadres can choose a better qualified leader than the pres?
Ba chilufya Sata, you are lost as your name states. Zambia is now governed by democratic principles why can’t let the people choose their own leaders. the world has changed from dictatorship to democracy. maybe you need a lecture. Don’t kutulufya ba chilufya
Guys this is a smart move by PF,why do i say so? Firstly at this point in time, its hard to have a convention and elect leaders in all positions, thats where losers decide to defect into other parties.Secondly,by electing only a few members of the NCC,it minimizes differences and loses on credible members from the party.
No doubt Mr Sata has worked hard to see pf reach where it is today. The man has offered checks to those in government and formidable opposition. my suggestion is, cant He help the party have a new president who of course will need his total support. e.g president- Given Lubinda vice president- Emmanuel Chenda SG- Kabimba spokesperson- W Simusa National chairperson- Wina etc. This is just my humble view and not meant to discredit the patriotic front leader.
Now these are the seeds of the revolutions in Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Libya etc that PF cadres praised not too long ago on LT. PF cadres, we all fought for our democracy, didn’t we? If you agree with Messrs Kabimba and Sata, you will be confirming publicly what citizens have always accused PF of, that you are all dimwits/morons never to be allowed anywhere near the corridors of power. You owe it to mother Zambia, please prove us wrong just this once!
The fact that Sata will lose these elections, is not good enough. He should not be a Presidential candidate in the first place.
pf, are you sick?
@25 Rigger also 24, 22, if you are ignorant about how PF operates, you better keep ur mouths shut. for your information PF has structures in all provinces and members of the party are known. How do you think provincial conferences succeded progressively than ur MMD corrupt conferences? If the party held provincial conferences what makes u think they have no members?is it not the same members from provinces and districts who are being invited.Go and hang and shed your ignorance in MMD camp!!
How do they verify bonafide members since the party has no Party register? Typical of shallow mindedness.
Yes party confusion, no membership register and no card. The only person with a card in PF is SATA. What does this mean? Come the day God calls him to rest, the party will also disappear. No member of PF will be ready to keep that statue (COBRA) in his office as symbol of PF presdo. Ba zedi be warned… it is never to late to think wisely. As you vote look in the future 10 years to the most, think of your children now and forever more ……
Membership by acclaimation or is it raising a clenched FIST?,so anyone can attend this circus including RB.I am putting my money on the so called ‘rebels’.
Open your eyes and learn from the past ba PF. Ati central committee, and the president appoints members to positions. What does this mean…wamuyaya politics. Those who where around in KK’s era can see where this this leading. I recommend that people read “The Private Lif of Chairman Mao”. Then they will know about this central committee animal in politics.
What is really sad is that, it is still simply a theory and an allegation, that Sata is dictatorial?? Or is it that poverty and suffering has been exaggerated that this calls for a Dictator, such as Sata is, to rule us?
There is plenty evidence of Sata’s dictatorial tendencies and here we have, in as plain a statement as can be, by Sata himself, that as a matter of fact, Dictatorship is the way to go. And shockingly heads are nodding, even here on this blog.
I PRAY FOR THIS COUNTRY NOT TO HAVE A SNAKE IN STATE HOUSE. THAT STATUE MEANS A LOT. BE WARNED BA ZEDI. YOU WILL REMEMBER Paguza ni Saguza come January 2012 If you make the mistake of voting for COBRA.
The PF new way of electing leaders is worthy trying. Hard working individuals will emerge from the Conference and hence a hard working and strong cabinet will follow and deliver to the Zambians. In other words well meaning Zambians and supporters of PF stand a chance to serve the nation. No vuvuzelas like in MMD. VIVA Sata, VIVA pf
I guess they will cancel after RB announces the date for elections ………… Africa
WELL DONE PRESIDENT SATA AS USUAL YOUR MOVES ARE ADVANCED EVEN TO THE EDUCATED WHO ARE USED TO DO THE SAME OLD THINGS ALL THE TIME. WHEN NEW IDEAS AREÂ INTRODUCED, THERE IS ALWAYS RESISTANCE.
REMEMBERÂ YOU INTRODUCED HOSPITAL BOARDS AND PEOPLEÂ CRIEDÂ FOUL UNTIL THEYÂ REALIZEDÂ LATER THAT IT WAS A BETTER WAY OF MANAGINGÂ HOSPITALS. YOU WILL ALWAYS OUT PERFORM. KEEP IT UP ONCE MORE
that how thing will run Zambia;where we go 100 yrs back.
#33 Pepecho Suffering – My simple question is how are your members known?ku chinso fye?Surely zambians need better than this circus.
The problem Zed has is self made. We dont know what we want and sadly, we live it to the shake-shake drinking holigans doing rounds on our streets as a measure of how popular a candidate is to vote for. We who understand the capabilities of these individuals have become armchair critic, without even helping these chaps realise that its their future that is at stake here. We need to break the poverty of the mind and the starting point is in our homes. We dont need to be aggressive against each coz we hold different views e.g. how can William Banda be a role model to my generation when all he knows is violence and insults! Shamefully, the educated have not guided the country truthfully. Guys we cant continue with this mediocrity. Lets sanitise our minds first and ask God to give us wisdom.
Those criticising the positive development here, why has Masebo resigned if the President of MMD does not have the power to appoint and or to release someone from their position? The same question may be asked about the MMD’s democratic character, which has been asked about the PF.
Thumbs up to you #45. There is the problem, you nailed it.
pabwatoooooooooo!
only political strategists like PF can come up with such a clearly thot out fomula of electing leaders a few weeks before election & kip the party togther and united. Bravo PF. as to the members only simple minds can question where members will come from after ten successful, well attended and incident-free provincial conferences which ignited the jealous of MMD hooligans and had to make attempts to disrupt the lusaka one
@48, we are looking for a party that will outshine the mmd on democracy, economic management, and other points, remember sir? if pf will be the same or worse than mmd, then what do we want change for? to ruin our nation?
On “Mr. Kabimba says the party’s electoral system is deliberately designed to promote unity in the party… once members of the central committee are elected, it is the responsibility of the party president to make appointments to various party positions” it is interesting that this is the best PF can do to mask the Bemba Tribalism since a PF president will give positions to people from non-Bemba areas of Zambia who can lose elections to Bemba Tribalists if the normal way of conducting transparent elections in a real democratic CONVENTION is to be followed by the Bemba Cause PF political party that is single-handedly managed by a BISA, Bemba-Kind, leader called Mr Micheal Chilufya SATA.
Let us continue learning more from the strategic tribalists.

That is the way to go patriots. Do not leave any stone unturned. Time to make an impact is now. I am not standing at the fence. Floods are coming and you need a rescue mission. Let us try the sea transport as a conveyor belt for Zambia.
As presented above under my other username “Real Zambian-Patriot: UPND Sympathetic Bastion“, the PF leadership thought that all of us can not understand their DONCHI (U-)KUBEBA confusion but too bad for the PF because they have exposed their strategy of appointing people to certain PF positions because democratic elections will bring the Bemba Trabalism to the surface so much that non-Bemba people like Inonge Wina, Given Lubinda, Guy Scott, etc. can not win PF elections to retain or get their Old or new positions.
Now that they elections are around the corner, I will expose and hit PF hard for their tribal politics in Zambia.
I also take this opportunity to inform those who havent yet read how the ZWD Team has cut PF’s vice-leader to visit the site.

Matt 6:33
Absolute utter nonsense, PF seems to have taken a trip to coo coo land. What type of democracy is this; elect president and Central Committee, the rest to be appointed by the president. This is worse than UNIP – even the current republican constitution allows for the president to nominate then parliament to ratify in filing up a lot of key positions in government. Crucially, let ‘democracy’ advocates like Mpombo, Mulongoti, Panji, Masebo, etc go and queue up for positions!
Is this Lopez or David Letterman show…very funny.Keep on keeping on PF. Im anxiously waiting for that Press conference after the election day when your president will be lashing out at everybody and calling Alabi all sorts of names.
@44, quote “Mr. Kabimba says the party’s electoral system is deliberately designed to promote unity in the party”. you call this “new ideas of doing things….”? you kidding? mr sata has no new ideas, this is exactly the one party state zambians fought against for a long and hard 17 years. surely you are embarrassed with your own statement. i have no doubt that genuine pf members are disappointed and most likely disgusted with this turn of events. the one party state was introduced in 1973 under exactly the same cover: to promote unity in the party. if genuine pf members allow history to repeat itself, it will take pf cadres and other citizens 17 years to reverse it and the economic decline that goes with it.
elections are around the corner and the pf is in a panic to respond to people’s calls for internal elections in pf. pf cannot plan beyond 90 days and this is the result of panic. but it suits mr sata very well, he hates democracy and this is his way of hoodwinking people. what is surprising though is that mr sata really thought this could sell to the electorate, with poor advice from a very unsuccessful lawyer. this cannot sell even to genuine pf cadres, you can see it from the number of cadres in support, by now there should have been 150 blogs in support. pf cadres, most of you that we blog with are surely more intelligent than this, come out of your cocoons and defend your freedom, not mine.
pf cadres, we have been blogging together on LT for a long time and we have become faceless friends and family. i know that most of you have supported mr sata in the belief that he means well. now this, i really feel for you to come to this, to be stabbed in the back by the very man that you followed and supported without question. but that is your mr sata from the day he was born through to the unip days no change. you have certainly learnt your lessons just like hh did from the pact. you will not sleep well tonight, but don’t worry too much, we are a forgiving lot, just do the right thing and we shall embrace you as brothers and sisters.
Ex police me we need sata
Sata can’t win the elections to be president Zambia iam just reminding all those who are cheating themselves that PF will form the next government to revisit their decisions before they are disappointed. just imagine voting for somebody who is proud to be called cobra, did you know that the cobra is the world’s most venomous snake, unless you are looking for trouble and inviting poverty @ your door steps you can go ahead and vote for the cobra but the onus is on you and your children. let MMD go ahead what is sata going to bring to the innocent Zambians and what change do you want? well its up to you.
Katie Good, at least you have identified who is s’t.u,p.i.d, you see, that’s what makes the difference between you & Sata!! At least he is able to vie for office, whilst you moan about your incapacities!!!
Guys the point is,keeping the party united, look at what happened to mmd,how many defections have we witnessed or are we yet to witness after their convention? a lot.Elections can be held anytime from now and what is being avoided here is dividing the party. The grassroots make up the party’s strong structures hence the need to maintain togetherness at that level,by not holding elections especially at this very critical point. In any case, how many people make up the NCC? very few,its therefore easy to manage differences amongst few people, than the whole party across the country. This should be commended if one is really strategic.
#28 Sata is not learned himself. What difference does it make if he appoints the leaders to his NEC or if it is done by Kaponyas (Shake shake boys)? He will appoint leaders like himself. It’s a pity people like Winter have gone so low as to become boot lickers.
#28 Sata is not learned himself. What difference does it make if he appoints the leaders to his NEC or if it is done by Kaponyas (Shake shake boys)? He will appoint leaders like himself. It’s a pity people like Winter have gone so low as to become a boot licker.
Don’t kubeba, some one will have the longest last laugh on Tuesday!
Sata is to PF just like Pule is to DUNAMIS. Sata owns PF, who is going to challenge him?
An opportunity to elected a health president, I wonder whether SATAN will pull through to elections in Sept. Dont blame anyone if you make the mistake of chooing satan. His health is failing. He avoided attending the state funeral due to long processing he would have collapsed. Lubinda take advantage of the hand over.. Another big loss PF. Boats are known to be used in water not on land, useless symbol.Â
It has taken good 10 years for PF to realise democratic principles surrounding a convention. Amazining eti? In the meantime I have not heard who else apart from the COBRA is contesting for Presidency. Enlighten me fellow bloggers if you have news to that effect. I would really appreciate.
Good day Mother Zambia!
Since PF members will not dare challenge Mr Sata, I will challenge him. After all, since PF has no membership cards everyone is eligible to stand. Anyone willing to join me and Mr Sata in the race, please contact me through LT. I can assure you that this is your lifetime opportunity to become a party president.
#64 zamcab, That is exactly how one party state came about in 1973 – 1991, one of the actors is still alive to repeat it exactly the same way it was done then, Mr Sata. Mr Sata hopes that people will not remember that. Unfortunately he has miscalculated again.
Circus! How do they pick candidates when they have no register of members, no membership cards? PF’s real character will surface. Bemba tribalism will surface as people like Lubinda, Wina will not have any seats.Only Bembas will.
Time to replace ailing Sata. We shall be waiting for casualties, those that will come to us at the end.
The first ever convention from the day Sata formed the party10 years ago, and this is the group you want to entrust with absolute power? Sata has always been appointing office bearers.
Just as he refuted on the meeting PF had not to attend Dr Chiluba;s funeral, the next you will hear from the Cobra will be a rebuttal to what Mr Kabinga has said. Very unpredictable is PF.
They took him to court, but 2day look and listen to them wat they are saying abt him,Iwe ka william banda nkotiso, watch out,Tu ka kusenda mu bwato ad drop u pa kati ka mumana pamo na mbuya obe chanda chimba,ad u will see,uli politician wa chankalale.ba nyama soya aba, viva PF 2011 ooyee.
Any sane and right thinking person can see that what Kabimba is trying to justify is lack of democracy. Democracy entails giving power to the people and not to the president. Fortunately everyone who is voting can forsee what type of governing will exist in the PF government. For sure its Donchi Kubeba. They say he who has ears hears once. We plan our own destiny. Some year from now some clown shouting pa bwato pa bwato will be in the forefront complaining that we are under a dictatorship. RB and Sata have same mentality of who a president is…The Big Boss.
