Government has stepped-up efforts to open-up tourism offices in all the Zambian embassies abroad in a bid to promote Zambia’s tourism potential.
Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Michael Kaingu says his ministry has since started holding meetings with Zambian envoys in the various countries in an effort to implement the programme.
Mr. Kaingu told ZANIS in an interview that the move is aimed at fulfilling the late President Levy Mwanawasa’s vision of enhancing the growth of the tourism sector.
He pointed out that once implemented, the initiative will also help in spearheading the showcasing of Zambia’s tourism potential on the global market.
Mr. Kaingu further disclosed that government was considering revising the new Visa Fees.
He said this follows consultations with the Ministry of Finance and National Planning on whether Zambia would suffer heavily in terms of foreign earnings.
He cited the United Kingdom, British Visa Fees and the United States Visa Fees as some of the Visa Fees that his ministry would consider revising.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kaingu has urged the people of Zambia to rally behind the Acting President Rupiah Banda in the forth-coming 30 October presidential elections.
Mr. Kaingu said voting for Mr. Banda and the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) party in particular will help not disrupt the late President Levy Mwanawasa’s vision of uplifting the living standards of people and help to harness the growth of the country’s economy.
Mr. Kaingu, who is also Mwandi area Member of Parliament, said voting for the ruling party will also help the country to continue implementing developmental programmes which Dr Mwanwasa embarked on during his reign as Republican President.
He has since appealed to Zambians to vote for Acting President Rupiah Banda whom he said was the only credible candidate committed to taking national development to greater heights
how?
Campaigns??
Zambia is a beautiful country, time to let world citizens know about Vic Falls, etc!
Its a good idea but this guy is also campaigning. But on the other only relatives of the ministers will employed and nothing like always will out
Stories…
Its a good idea but this guy is also campaigning. But on the other only relatives of the ministers will employed and nothing like always will come out
After elections, this will be a dead issue. wait and see! what happened to the visit Zambia campaign? I hear it was a flop
There’s nothing that I hate more than these government officials coming out and telling us what they want to do without actually saying how they will go about doing it. The devil is in the details Kaingu.
i hope interviews will be transparent.in future dont get shocked to see kaingu’s grand mother, sisters and brothers in foreign countries masquerading as tourist consultants.
Just vote HH ALaaaaaaaa!
Meanwhile, there will soon be no airline to bring in the tourists…what a joke!
Bushe Zambia elyo yabuka mutulo? Where have we been all this time and only coming to our senses today that we should indeed do something about our tourism industry and promote it abroad.
Iyo mwandini! Kuti uleseka fye lyonse.
#11 very funny…… you are right, other foreign airlines will make money on our heads while they bring those rich tourists when we could easily strengthen our own airline industry — can we learn anything from Ethiopian airline industry?
The beating up of a Ndola worker by a group of Chinese nationals as reported in the Sunday Post (14.09.2008) made very sad reading.
My heart bleeds as I read how a poor, helpless and defenceless worker was clobbered for resting after work. This clearly shows how our labour laws should be revisited for the sake of our downtrodden Zambians.
I wonder what would have happened if a Chinese national were beaten up by a mob of Zambians in China. I am sure that would mean an automatic deportation or jail sentence.
I thus appeal to people responsible to take the Ndola case very seriously and bring those Chinese to justice.
Zambia is our God-given motherland and we should not be mistreat
Let me state from the outset that I am not an economist, but I do know that crude oil has fallen to a seven-month low, and there are indications that it will continue falling because of the expected slowdown in the US economy.
I thus would like to find out why the pump price of fuel in Zambia has not gone down.
We should have been seeing a reduction in the pump price of fuel even before the government’s reduction in taxes. I am appealing to The Post – the voice of the voiceless-to seek an explanation from Energy Regulation Board as to why there is no change in the pump price of fuel.
Awe….
It a foreigner so much as touches a chinese in china, they must consider themselves lucky if they escaped any deportation or jail sentence. These chaps have no morals when it comes to justice, not even bad ones! deal with the case someone – justice must prevail
#14 Balipwa ba POST abo ulelandapo mune.
The chaps talking about revising US and British Visas, have you considered that these chaps are tightening the noose when it comes to our people obtaining visas to their countries, or have things changed now? I think we must not be taken for a ride – if it means excluding these people from visiting Zambia, we must do so – tit for tat! And if it means we market tourism to the small people from the east (my friends the chinese) lets do so – but ofcourse making sure we do not let them stay unnecessarily long. These chaps are looking for where to spend their skyrocketting incomes now.Abash the British snobs
Please tell the nation how much money was spent on the ‘Visit Zambia’ campaign and whether it was a success. For instance the UK High Commission was allocated a lot of money for the campaign but not much was done. To start with, there are no capacities/expertise in this field at the High Commission (but only 1 staff member). Apart from facilitating/bringing in a few musicians to perform in the UK, the High Commission has not done much in promoting Zambian tourism in the UK. They cannot even talk about uniting Zambians in the UK because they don’t just care like their colleagues in Russian. The so called UKZAMBIANS is a private entity and is not even registered in the UK.
If even LPM(MHSRIP) had to castigate the visit Zambia campaign, can Kaingus’ formular work? Its only UPND that can drive this country forward.
Vote wisely!!!!!1
#13 VICTIM. IF A SIMILAR THING HAPPENED IN CHINA THOSE ZAMBIANS WILL BE BROUGHT IN CASKETS. THIS IS NO JOKE. JAILING THEM CAN BE A SHERE WASTE OF RESOURCES IN CHINA. KILLING THEM WOULD BE A COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION. THIS CAN BE DONE BY A MOB INDIRECTLY SUPPORTED BY THE STATE
they could start by paying for the russian students they sent!
Zambia is not for sale!
Ya right stop bushushushu on this web site we gonna stop using it
Ilyashi yapa Zed ilantekunya!
We are about to turn 45 years after independence surely this has not yet happened! i agree with #4 & #26.
Rubbish and Boring.
#18 “tit for tat” with the west? You need them more than they need you.
Victim, GRZ should imprison the chines and then depot them
#16, I’ve touched so many Chinese and never been deported. It’s how you touch them …
how do u let somthing as damn as a chinese touch you and u touch

Why announce it! Just do it please. What were you waiting for all along????
We need “NEWS” and not will “DOS”
if the government is not interested in protecting its people beaten up by chinese pliz as Zambians lets open up an account,am very ready to donate any minute.thats why sometimes you can even think of sata ruling.sometimes you need a person who is a mover.MMD is a minus for sure,no wonder they have lost popularity.Sata and HH could have easily removed mmd.
I have never seen an advert on CNN calling out for investment in Zambia. Every time it’s Nigeria, Angola, SA and even Uganda. Is our govt. too stingy or do they just overlook the positive impact if such an advert was aired?
chaps, u don’t need physical offices in these places! in todays information age, all u need is the right internet visibility as well as some roadshows in key strategic places! don’t waste tax payers money coz even the envoys we have abroad don’t do much as it is
You better act fast because should Zimbabwe be in the good books of the West again Zambia will be left in the dust. The so called Zambian tourist capital is a big shame. One wonders whether the people that run tourism in Zambia have brains in their heads. You do not just pick some villager from places such as the Lealui plains and make them in-charge of tourism. Little wonder Zambian tourismsector is a big joke. Vote for change.
Coming to zambia will be expencive, visa are £75. People will think twise to come to zambia. They do need to think this over regarding visas.I love to come over erey year but i cannot. Not many airline do zambia.Tickets are £600.00 from uk.love the country!!!!!!!!.
………..
,,,,,,,,,,,
yes
brainless
Zambia lost a big opportunity when Zimbabwe was down. Most of the tourism in Zambia is under South African franchises. What is the govt doing to promote tourism for 2010 world cup? it is only about 2hrs from Jo’burg to Livingstone.
