United Liberal Party (ULP) president Sakwiba Sikota has described the warning by President Rupiah Banda to Chieftainess Nkomeshya as a timely intervention.
Mr. Sikota who has abandoned his presidential ambitions to accompany President Banda on his campaign trail tells Qfm that the Chieftainess has a right to support any candidate of her choice but that she should refrain from intimidating her subjects.
He has accused Chieftainess Nkomeshya of threatening to strip off the headmen of their titles if they support President Banda and the ruling MMD candidates in the area.
Mr Sikota says such an act is unacceptable in a democratic dispensation.
Mr. Sikota explains that President Banda was forced express his sentiments at a public rally because the traditional leader declined to meet him despite seeking an audience with her.
The ULP leader has since urged headmen in Chieftainess Nkomeshya chiefdom to take legal action against her if they receive any more threats from the traditional ruler.

UPND has been vindicated on Saki’s behaviour. They could not choose him as presidential candidate because he wanted to merger with MMD of Mwanawasa when Mazoka was sick on South Africa, just for him to get a post of vice-presidency, and thats the time when he gave MMD the UPND manifesto. His support for RB has really vindicated UPND to an extent that all the allegations he lebelled against such a clean party were just not fair to say the least, and he owes them a public apology. Saki is really power hungry who will all the time look for opportunities for his selfish and greedy motives. So the president’s reaction is as a result of refusal by the chieftainess to his request for an audience with her. I see nothing wrong here for she refused a visit to her home like anyone of us can refuse visitors into our homes. The idea behind sending emissaries to the chieftainess’ palace was to request for an appointment and a request can be either granted or denied. When it was denied it is my belief that the emissaries pressed for a reason why and it was given! I sense a bruised ego here and Saki should advise on how best to make amends between the two than seem to fuel an otherwise volatile situation. Well I admire her action than some of us who would go out of our way to receive visitor’s even when we are not prepared for them just because they have standing in society

When Saki lost elections to HH, a lot of people sympathised with him calling the UPND President all sorts of names.
