ECZ asked to explain the monitor swap

Share

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ )Director Danny Kalale to tell the general public on change of ECZ election monitors from teachers  to school leavers.

FODEP National Secretary Derrick Elemu said the criteria used in having school leavers as elections monitor instead of teachers should be well explained.

Mr. Elemu  charged that teachers had enough time to be trained, hence had the experience unlike the school leavers engaged in the October 30th presidential polls.

He noted that there was need for ECZ to not completely do away with the Teachers but let them also be part of the monitors to help the school leavers.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka Sunday, that ECZ should have consulted other stakeholders when coming up with such a decision.

The Secretary pointed out the school leavers are likely to face pressure from politician and cadres during the voting day  which can make them compromise with their duties, as they have a short period of  time to be  trained.

Meanwhile Mr. Elemu has opened the one day workshop on trainer of trainers in Lusaka Sunday with call that people should not vote on sympathy but vote for a person they feel is the right one.

“The voters should not just vote for a person because they sympathize with that person, but vote for someone because they will feel is the right one.” He said

He said people should not shun the exercise but turn up in large numbers, as it is the only way there can participate in choosing a person who should led them.

He further said his organization will focus on providing voters with information that will help them understand the electoral process.

He  has also appealed to the Citizenry to participate in the forth –coming presidential elections so that leaders are not imposed on them.

And to the participating candidates to debate and campaign responsibly   avoid involving personalities in the campaign messages, if they are to market themselves so that people should vote for them.

Mr. Elemu said the workshop  participants will be equipped with knowledge which there will share with the electorates in the Communities in which  they come from.

He disclosed duty of the participant to educate other information dissemination in different communities so that information reaches everyone as it plays a major role in helping the public understand the importance of casting a vote.

The workshop has attracted participants from eight district, namely, Lusaka, Kitwe,  Livingstone, Kafue, Petauke, Chongwe, Mumbwa and Mufurila.

  1. ECZ, YOU CAN’T START YOUR EXPERIMENTS ON A CRUCIAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. MAKE SURE THOSE SCHOOL LEAVERS ARE MONITORED BY EXPERIENCED PEOPLE PLEASE

  2. When you start changing things at the last moment, it is the sign that not all is well. One you will be accused of hiding something either it is a system which can be manipulated in order to disadvantage others in what ever way might think does work to a good switch over. Please ECZ be carefull we only have one country we always differ in words it end that way but tempering peoples live is not good rethink.

  3. What is the farce about who is monitoring the elections. In my opinion most of the rigging in the past has been done under the noses of ´underpaid, corruptable and disinterested´ teachers. So why should we continue placing our faith in them. Lets try something else, yes lets try the school leavers, journalists, police, Ba Malonda, marketeers…anybody else, but no teachers this time around. Train the school leaver and build their capacity to handle elections. The school leavers are capable of delivering with the right support from the appropriate authorities. Viva school leaver. Hey let people vote for whatever reason, sympathy, tribalism, religion, ignorance..etc Thats Democracy !!!!!

  4. the fact that this election was not prepared for we need people with experience so that we dont blame them for any miscalculation.

  5. Zambians should watch the ECZ and the MMD closely. It appears they will do anything and everything to give the MMD victory. Their choice of school leavers is an attempt to temper with our votes.

  6. I hear MMD failed to hold a public rally in Kasama after their leaders attended the Bemba traditional ceremony for fear of being humiliated. Be brave you are in the big league now.

  7. Nowhere in the electoral act or Zambian constitution does it say teachers are life time election monitors. If anythibg they have been publicly biased lot with reckless behaviour of blackmailing politicians.School leavers-Grade 12s, college and University Graduates are good fits for the task.If anything, ECZ must plan to move them around within the districts in the provinces to avoid compromise.

  8. The only candidate to vote for is HH. Ngoyu genteremani, HH, ngoyu genteremani, HH, ngoyu genteremani wacinicini, HH.

  11. Danny Kalale, please stop acting like a person who has no experience in electrol processes, for you to start picking up school leavers for this very important election, moreover we do not have time to waste to start training new people who have no knowledge on election issues. Can you for once stop behaving as if you own ECZ. remember that ECZ is an institution which has other stakeholders hence they need to be involved in every process. may RB is your stakeholder and thats why you held a meeting with him to consult over the issue.
BA KALALE PLEASE BE PROFESSIONAL IN THE WAY YOU DEAL WITH ISSUES OF THE NATION KA!

  13. Kwena ba ngwele – you mean parties can not build alliances towards the election and you call that corruption. Maybe we are still immature about party politics. FTJ, Cobra and Levy himself are examples of characters who have used legitimate funds to build alliances and they is not specific law that has been broken.

It appears the opposition is jettery because they are depending on a wounded dog – Fred Mmembe to do their fights for them. The Post has always wanted to shape the Zambian political scene. First they hammered HH, then Satan got angry with them and now their guns are aimed at RB. We nid to nail the homosexual Mmembe chap.

  14. Ba post hope you good today!!!!!!! well rumor has that our famous cosmo mumba has bought himself a car valued at K9million hope that rings a bell………

  15. Ok. use of school leavers. i pray these chaps wont be used. u know anything can happen. The boys and girls in rural areas have shallow minds compared to a town mouse. I’ll just urge opposition reperesentatives not to leave then ballot boxes, least they are exchanged. Human being is the most weaked of all.

  16. kALALE IS CORRUPT. HE IS PART OF THE FAMILY TREE. HE WAS CAUGHT AT THE AIRPORT 2006 ELECTIONS.THIS MAN IS A SHAME TO THIS NATION.
THE NEXT PRESIDENT SHOULD EMPOWER THE pARLIAMENT TO APPOINT THE LIKES OF KALALE,CHIEF JUSTICE AND THE JUDGES,INSPECTOR GENERAL MATEOS,ACC LEADERSHIP and may more…. this will stop boot licking…….. shameless educated fools…..
