Radiation Protection Authority Expresses Concern Over Rising Cancer Cases in Zambia

The Radiation Protection Authority in Zambia has raised alarm over the alarming increase in cancer cases across various age groups within the society. This growing trend of cancer diagnoses has sparked deep concern and led the authority to consider launching investigations into the potential causes.

Brigadier-General Adrian Maleya, the Chairperson of the Radiation Protection Authority Board, expressed his worry as hospitals across the nation are seeing a significant influx of cancer cases. Unfortunately, the precise causes of this surge remain unidentified, making it essential to delve into the root causes of the issue through research.

Dr. Maleya pointed out that dietary habits could be one of the potential factors contributing to the growing number of cancer cases. Understanding the role of food choices and other lifestyle factors in cancer development is among the critical areas that the authority aims to explore in their research efforts.

Speaking in Livingstone, Dr. Maleya officially inaugurated a three-day seminar for Radiation Protection officers from all regions of the country. The seminar serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, discussion, and the development of strategies to address the concerning rise in cancer cases and the potential role of radiation in this context.

Cancer has become a significant public health challenge worldwide, with its effects felt deeply in Zambia.

  1. The increase in the incidence of cancer isn’t from exposure to radiation, it’s mainly from poisoned foods. When Ben Kapita introduced the broiler and layer technology in Zambia, we were warned that the chemicals that were used in feeds might lead to cancer. Those my age still don’t eat layers and don’t crush broiler Borns for marrow. This generation of youths and some elders don’t choose what they eat. Chickens that die of disease find their into some restaurants. People of Mutantabantu, how do you eat nsima and chicken at K10? You’re poisoning yourself? In Lusaka they embalm fresh fish to preserve it

  2. Do we have the capacity to check what goes into vaccines we receive as donations? I’m not saying vaccines are bad but our government should be on the ball when you have people pretending to be helping when in fact they are on a secret agenda. The other day I read with horror that in some villages young girls were vaccinated without parental consent. We also need to ban substandard feed and revisit the GMO products finding their way on the Zambian market. If you have been eating IWISA it’s clearly labelled at the back that it contains GMO.

  3. the real reason we now have a increase in cancer is our poor modern fast food and chemicals to preserve them. one only looks at the first world were cancer is high. if we went back to organic food no pesticides, additives in food , for example MSG ect. people would live longer. also exercise , we are lazy now we drive cars not walk, sit in front of the TV and we eat junk food and use cooking oil which overseas is banned because it can cause cancer, use olive oil or animal fat. those are the real reasons cancer is a big problem.

  4. GMOs brought in by hh and upnd govt to reduce cost of mealie meal. You are eating cancerous food

  5. Even more GMO to come in 2024 when there will be maize shortages due to reduction in FISP budget I MF recommendation

  6. Which sane Farmer both commercial and small scale not on FISP would buy expensive fertilizer to grow maize to sell to FRA only with their price controls?

You cut FISP budget and beneficiaries expect maize production to be cut too. Wondering why Govt cannot comprehend this fact. Ih it’s all because of the muzungu at I MF?

  7. You acknowledge cancer cases are increasing but doing nothing about treatment. Only one cancer hospital in the entire country and even there machines are not working. What a joke!

  8. Is this conference on cancer or radiation? Or Is it an endorsement that the root cause of cancers is radiation? Whatever the case, there is need to increase surveillance on mined products for non radiation assurance. All those trucks ferrying minerals must pass a radiation check before they get on our roads.
