ZCCB offers solidarity on the Cholera situation

The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has offered the message of solidarity and support to the nation in view of the persisting cholera situation that has affected the nation.

In a solidarity message on cholera situation the ZCCB, the conference stated that the recent months have seen an escalation in the number of cholera cases and deaths as well as a general disruption of the normal flow of life and business including postponement of the reopening of schools.

“We therefore wish to express our closeness and solidarity with those who are nursing the sick in the various treatment centres and to convey our condolences to families that have lost their loved ones. May those who have died in this outbreak be granted eternal rest,” the statement reads.

The ZCCB further stated that it recognises the concerted efforts and interventions of Government and various partners to bring this situation under control.

The statement further urged everyone to adhere to the preventive measures and guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health.

The ZCCB has also called upon various organizations and individuals to supplement Government efforts through generous donations and technical support.

It has further called upon Zambians to find permanent solutions that prevent recurrence of this outbreak in future.

The ZCCB has since saluted the frontline medical personnel, the volunteers and other stakeholders that have selflessly responded to this emergency situation.

  1. Apart from private schools, those running restaurants and takeaways have also been hit hard as people are too choose about where they eat from. Travellers disembark from buses at Sunda Station (Kabwe) and get back without any food because they don’t want to pick cholera. This is very disruptive to business.

  2. This is a progressive statement, one which builds and not Unit. The challenges we are facing now with regards to cholera where planted a long time ago when governments allowed the setting up of Misis, Kanyama, etc within the precinct of the CBD. Way forward is to provide pipped water and flushable toilets that should be managed by the community themselves. Through Area Development Plans, build facilities that could be placed in the hands of a certain section. Direct all CDF for urban areas to address Water and Sanitation

  3. This cholera outbreak is a good thing. It will teach Zambians the lesson they do not want to learn.

  4. Cholera is now like an annual traditional ceremony! Enough said. And instead of looking for viable solutions that are viable we are running to vaccines. Vaccinating against dirt!??? Say what!? Tell me that a workable, longer term solution is also on the cards in addition to this rather useless move.
