Former Zambian President Rupiah Bwezani Banda has joined the high-powered Zambian delegation sent by President Michael Sata to Gabon to give support to the Zambia National Soccer team. Mr Banda will be part of the Zambian delegation to Libreville, Gabon to attend the closing ceremony and watch the final match between Zambia and Ivory Coast.

This was after President Sata requested the former head of state, who is an ardent soccer fan to join First Republican president Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, Republican Vice-President Dr Guy Scott and other Zambian dignitaries who are traveling to Gabon to give solidarity and support to the Chipolopolo Boys as they play their final match tomorrow.

And in a press statement made available to the media by State house, President Michael Sata has sent a goodwill and solidarity message to the gallant Chipolopolo Boys, ahead of tomorrow’s Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) final match in Libreville, Gabon.

In yet another passionate call to the Zambia National Soccer Team, the President said the entire nation is proud of the excellent successes the team has recorded during this period.

“No doubt, Zambia has become one of the continent’s leading team in football following a convincing and outstanding performance of our heroic Chipolopolo Boys at the 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations tournament,” President Sata said.

The President wished the team every success in the final and counseled them to remain resolute and optimistic especially with the unwavering support they are enjoying from both the Government and the Zambian people in general.

“We are confident that the Chipolopolo Boys will emerge victorious and subsequently return with the trophy to Zambia after many years of attempts to clinch gold at this prestigious African tournament,” the Head of State said.

“We wish our brave and gifted ambassadors the very best of luck and urge them to make Zambia proud once more. Let them know that after this final match, they shall forever remain winners and true representatives of our motherland.”

  1. This is good mr president and to RB thankyou for accepting the request, we hope to see the three of you working together so as to bring development to this nation! good luky to the zambian team

  2. this is my president. he is human in every way. he extends his arm to his enemies. How beautiful is thy country, zambia. I love you. I miss to be home. well done b-a sata. proove the world wrong that zambians do not love each other.

I look fwd to see you inviting banda to state house for dinner too. God bless you. God bless Zambia. miss thy country

  3. This is how it should especially in times like this. As a Country, we should stop the Precedent of victimising one another. Go Zambia Go. The cup is ours no matter what.

  4. BaSata watch out! RB you ve sent alyagukilwa iminwe. The cup may disappear before it gets to the State House. Anyway here you have done well.

  5. Zambia politics is maturing fast. This is good to see. Let us not indulge in politics of attrition. Let our country lead Africa in football and in politics. Let the other countries see how politics should be conducted. Long live Kaunda. Long live Banda. Long live Sata. Long live Zambia. I never thought I would live long enough to witness this.

  6. Welcome move ,it RB and company who facilitated this team to prepare adquately for the finals for the first time i say thank to MCS ,a sign of maturity.

  7. We have been to the Africa Cup 15 times. To the finals three times including this final. Let us not settle for second best this time. We are a very swift team team. Ivory Coast a slow and old. No wonder Chelsea is failing to top the EPL. Lets drop them come Sunday.

  8. I must say this is the first time I salute Sata`s move since he became presiedent,if he continues being level headed,he might just win my support.

  9. An act of goodwill and excellency Mr. President. I have always said that the fight aganist curruption for former leaders takes too long and at the end of it all, Zambias lose more than gain. So, this should also be a channel of reconcilation and dropping the charges agaisnt RB. If he indeed stole, he has invested in Zambia and will contribute to the job creation.

    • what a foolish conclusion! are you one of the beneficiaries of RB’s corruption? while I salute this good will, the law should take its course, I personally can’t stomach thieving leaders, they have to lead by example other wise they create a thieving nation.

  10. Ati Mrs anonymous, banda is not sata’s enemy. sata is just working so if any of his work touches rb negatively, tht doesnt mean enemity. ITS ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION, ONE CHIPOLOPOLO AND ONE AFCON. all the best mother zambia

  11. Mr President. How about Public Holidays next week. I will be high as shit tomorrow night and I do not see myself working properly Monday. When are we at the airport? And again pipo from Copperbelt shold not travel to Lusaka to receive the Cup. Last time in 1993 you never went back. The president will facilitate for the Cup to come to CB.

    • Yah, hope you don’t sh!t on yourself too! LOL.

Anyway, I love the way Zambians celebrate, but alchohol is poisonous, try to be level headed how go about celebrating because you might not wake up the following day to see the trophy arrive in Zambia!

  12. good gesture, at least RB knows that no politics of hate at the moments only questions were being asked on how he was running govt..if clean he should not worry..i know his number 1 fan, so good move by sata and i hope he will be happier man by tomorrow after the game.

  13. truth be told. Kambwili conveyed the boys’ request to repay RB for all the massive support he gave to them in preparing for this tournament and Sata has just reluctantly bulged. The boys are very fond of the easygoing and supportive RB. Only fools hate the RB smile.

    • Should it matter who convinced Sata to do this? Whether or not someone intimated to the president to include RB on this delagation to Gabon is imaterial. The fact that Sata actually agreed show that he is not as inconsiderate, imature, and vindictive as some people have tried to make him—-good signs of statesmanship!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Bravo Mr Presido! That is way to go. Kindly include best loser H.H, and his companion former Veep George Kunda. We need this Cup desperately and we don`t want haters to spoil our game. One Zambia, one nation. Mr. Sata, you are a good man. One thing no one can take away from you is, you are a patriot. Long live Mr President and God bless Zambia.

  15. What people forget is that these two worked together UNIp days and Sata used to eat Nshima at RB’s mother. So, separete invetsigations agaist plunderers from old horses.

  16. Why invite a rotten stinking thief who plundered the economy to watch the match in Gabon at our expense? This stinks.

  17. The cobra is always a cobra. It might be a ploy to get Rupiah arrested there or as he arrives back at the airport. Never trust Sata, full stop. Those that want to believe the bullshit that’s up to them. I have known Sata for too long. You can’t invite somebody to go and watch football, while at the sametime your guard-dogs are hunting your children to kill and eat them. Does he honestly expect Rupiah to go out there and cheer the boys happily when he is at the same time constantly on the phone with his children worrying about where they are hiding? I’m not saying it is wrong to arrest corrupt chaps, but Sata must learn to be sensitive with other people’s lives. If this is reconciliation, I hope Rupiah’s concerns are addressed as well…last week he shouted at Malama remember????

  18. Ba Sata you are a good man and this is humbling. Let us respect and love each other; Sata won but Banda did well to hand over the power-for others refuse to hand over the crown becos they know power is sweet. Sata just watch out for opportunists who may be misleading you. CHIPOLOPOLO COME BACK WITH THE CROWN..HE..Sata enuff respect and love for you!!!

  19. Best thing is the clown is not going. only statesmen. no drama. no embarrassment. all protocol will be observed.ultimately and above all, should the boys fail (GOD FORBID), there will be solid shoulders to lean on as they cry. Two comforting parents. Akulu-akulu ni mdambo mozimila moto.

  20. That is really good Mr President. Hop you can now invite HH, MILUPI,MIYANDA,NAWAKWI to receive the boys at Keneth Kaunda International Airport with or without a cup. Thats is the spirit of unity in the country. For once you hav my support.

  21. The move by MCS is quite gratifying, indeed Zambia has shown the world that we are united. Keep up the good spirit boss and may God Bless you as you lead the nation.

  22. I MUST SAY FOR THE FIRST TIME I AM COMMENTING ON THIS SIGHT , I ONLY READ WHAT PEOPLE WRIGHT BUT AM PROMPTED TO COMMENT. SATA HAS SHOWN HIGH LEVELS OF MATURITY ON THIS ONE BY PUTTING OUR POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS ASIDE. IF HE CONTINUES ON THIS PATH WE WILL BE A GREAT NATION SOON. ZAMBIA ONLY HAS 2 FORMER PRESIDENTS SURVIVING AND WE HAVE LOST 2. LETS LIVE TO RESPECT THEM. LONG LIVE KK, LONG LIVE RB AND LONG LIVE MC

  23. #16, VERY WELL SAID. #14, THIS HAS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH CRIMES COMMITTED ON POOR ZAMBIANS. RB IS VERY FREE NOW UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN THE COURT OF LAW. SO DROPPING CHARGES WILL BE THE DOWNFALL OF PF, SATA AND ZAMBIA. EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE JUST STARTED TO REALISE THAT CORRUPTION IS BAD WILL SIMPLY REVERT BACK TO THEIR OLD HABBITS. KUFWILE UKUBA AKATINA. BAMO BAFWILE BAKAKWAKO IN ORDER TO PUMP THIS AKATINA INTO PUBLIC WORKERS AS WELL AS THOSE IN PRIVATE SECTORS AND ALL ZAMBIANS. VIVA SATA.

  24. Despite all the public posturing, hype and sabre rattling about the fight against corruption, these fellows (Sata and Bwezani) are eating from the same plate all the time!! (Remember Bwezani’s mother could cook for them and they would eat together in years gone by). They should not hoodwink us by making believe that there is bad blood between them – ni boza amambala. Or would some one be extending the olive branch only when it suits them? That would be deceptive.

  25. WOW WOW WOW?? TRUE LEADERSHIP MR PRESIDENT. WELL DONE. CHIPOLOPOLO YOU HAVE SUPPORT 1st, 4thPresidents PLUS VP?? WOW.MAY THE ALMIGHTY GUIDE US TO VICTORY. IAM PROUD & LOVE MY SPECIAL COPPER BULLET. VIVA CHIPOLOPOLO.

  26. #39 PETER – I really like your thinking. Having that “AKATINA” is very very crucial for our future. I think what people forget is that NOBODY is Zambia. Zambia chinama palicheka, all of us will go and leave going even stronger behind us. So the decisions we make now, and how our politicians behave right now will affect how your children and grandchildren will live in future…AND EVERYONE of us is responsible for that future welfare of our future generations. When we criticise, for example ba Sata, we are just thinking exactly that. So I hope the president does the right thing and continues to do the right thing. Funny thing is, long after he is gone and silly things he does now will continue to affect you and me. So criticism is NOT personal…

  27. Sometimes worries me how us bloggers and cadres fight while these two get along so wel look they even holding hands.hope this will continue.thanks your exellence.ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION LESA APALE.

  28. That is avery good thing so that those people who think mr sata balibipa mutima bale echusha fye coz us catholic we have a heart of forgiveness by the way RB and SATA are tribal cousins.Good ba president i hope next time it will be hakainde at KK Airport and other politicians.

  29. thanks my president. i had earlier posted asking why RB was not invited. Kanshi bakateka bala belenga Watchdog! now the country can see what it means to be a president of all zambians. you are slowly catching up with RBs wisdom.

  30. thanks my president. i had earlier posted asking why RB was not invited. Kanshi bakateka bala belenga Watchdog! now the country can see what it means to be a president of all zambians. you are slowly catching up with RBs wisdom.

  31. That shows maturity, hats off to our President for showing recognition to our former president Rupiah Banda by inviting him to join the delegation, may this unity continue to prevail in our nation Zambia.
    .Bravo Zambia

  32. Every time a courtesy is extended to RB, let ‘s not forget to remind him that he would never have done such a thing to MCS. Otherwise the good lesson of greed, selfishness, corruption, hatred, nepotism that characterised his short administration will be lost.

  33. Good Job Mr Sata this is the kind of thing we want to see.Not persecution of former leaders over sewing machines and a few grains of mealie meal

  34. This is the Sata we want, and that the jovial RB we know= the former FAZ Vice-President. And KK no doubt about it. I hope Liwewe is in the delegation.
@#45 True, HH would have refused and this time he busy drafting Press releases for this Sata’s fantastic thoughts, or ever advised him. This kind of moments where a country get united.

  35. congrats to sata for the offer and congrats to banda for accepting the offer. Represent us well. Im loving the atmosphere of peace and joy.

  36. This is how to make use of our elders and leaders. This is how a president should conduct himself. I hope HE keeps this up. This a step in the right direction. Our founding fathers need to spend more time together.

Remind me again how our football team was blown out of the sky in ’93. It better not happen to our forefathers. (4 fathers: KK, Chiluba, Mwanawasa, RB).

  37. Thanks for inviting Bwezani, this is just a game, Bwezeni if you come back, you still answer the Mpundu Tuest Fund, and your children, for now lets concetrate on the game. He still has dirty hands Banda.

  38. I am mauless. That is the spirit ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. That is great ba MCS Keep it up with same spirit please. You have also invited HH to attend the final although I know He was going refuse. But WELDONE MCS. BOYS WORK HARD. DONT MAKE SMALL MISTAKES

  39. Having now come to learn that it is possible that he himself could succumb to the temptation of self-aggrandisement that so consumed Rupiya, Sata is now becoming pally with him. Zambia was destined to be looted forever and ever amen!

  40. Some bloggers here never cease to amaze me. When Micheal does something of a goodwill nature, some people see it as suspicious, and when he calls for the rule of law to prevail, that as well is perceived as witch-hunt. Kanshi finshi mufwaya umwana wa bene akacite?

  41. This is good! This is the way it should be.Mr president this is a great score.Dont allow bwinjimfumu boy to use you to settle his scores with rb because soon he will be up against you.

This is a good act of fatherhood.

  42. Thats what zambia is all about, one zambia one nation. bravo sata, bravo Rb. please ba Liwewe should also join delegations, he has done alot to zambian football.

  43. I hope this doesn’t hinder with the on-going investigations being carried out by the ACC, ZP and DEC….should be business as usual no back dealing!!

  44. Now we are talking. This is an example close to the 10 commandments that sata preaches. Its a good start to practicing what he preaches. Lets see how long the practicing will go. well done

  45. I would have loved to see ALL our national leaders: RB, Elias CHIPIMO, Hakainde HICHILEMA, Tilyenji KAUNDA, Ng’andu MAGANDE, Chales MILUPI, Godfrey MIYANDA, Fredtrick MUTESA, Edith NAWAKWI travel together to cheer and give encouragement to the National Team in Gabon. Good luck to Zambia.

    • when did chipomo, milupi, HH etc become national leaders? I dont remember them being president. GET A LIFE. THESE ARE JUST COMMON PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME. THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THEM SELVES.

  46. Good evening

Great gesture by our President. It shows that he has no personal issues with his predecessor but is willing to extend an olive branch to the opposition to ensure that Zambia remains on it’s course of national peace and stability.

President Sata has definately exhibited a great sign of maturity and that he is willing and able to prove himself worthy as a peacemaker. MMD, UPND & others in opposition would do better to sit at the table and work together with president Sata for the prosperity of Zambia instead of spending time trying to find ways and means of encamping against his newly elected government.

    One Zambia, One Nation.

Let’s all follow our president’s example and Donchi ku hate one another!!!

  47. This is good, all we need now is consistency from now onwards! This idea of confiscating mealie meal from Kunda’s parents and then send the former does not add up. Let us move this country to greater heights together through hard work, discipline and consistency. Note that I dont mean being consistently inconsistent. Let us to share our successes and short-comings as one people.

  48. Mr. President , i surely have no words to explain you because you are far too much for me now…. how wonderful, how sweet, how marvelous , how heartful to see how you lead by example. Long live Mr President. You my inspiration sir, May the good Lord Abundantly bless you.

  49. good gesture indeed! but the law must take its course, Ieaders must be accountable and people should not seek political office for the sole purpose of enriching themselves, after almost 50years of independence, we should have seen more development, if we didn’t have such heartless leaders, who connot see beyond their tummys and pockets! I hate thieves, especially when they come in form of political leaders!

  50. Why did the opposition NOT demand a wider consutation before the announcement? What if the boys dance to the tune of donchi kubeba infront of him?

  51. RB  still has some unfinished business with the law.Sata is just following the law, until RB is proven guilty.I wonder if RB would have done the same to Sata,Sata is a real christian,he turned the other cheek, after all he went through, the humiliating propaganda, false accusations and no avenue for him to defend himself,Sata is another Mandela who forgave his tormentors, but RB will still have to be answerable when he returns. The only reason is RB was more of a soccer fan than a president.

  52. That’s the spirit we want to prevail in Zambia and it gives hope to the Nation when the present and past presidents unite under the umbrella of ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. Well done President Sata for the good gestures you are showing. Once a man of God you remain a man of God and God will indeed guide you. A word of caution- Consult before excuting. GOD BLESS MOTHER ZAMBIA a land of Dignity and Peace.

    • You mean what with your statement. Sata never got invited. RB wanted everything to himself, did he even consult KK??? NO??? WHY??? I leave that for you to figure out??

  53. This is  what the lord want because the Bible says love one another and am so glad that our president is explaining the meaning of that.Zambia will come home with the trophy no matter what people will be wishing but i do believe that the trophy will be home tomorrow. wishing the chi polo polo boys all the best and am praying for the protection be upon them this is the team the next thing will be the world cup i believe and i can see the trophy coming home right now praise the lord for that.

  54. Looks good on paper, and maybe HE Sata means it, but with the Post and Mmembe being the fourth and most powerful wing of the Zambian government I see posturing here. Just looking at the Post editorials one wonders whether the writers are high on something, they are certainly not sober but they still insist on shaping government policy. Anyway, RB has a large heart and it ain’t no big deal for him to do his duty for the country.

  55. @61 Zambia 1 : I love you bro, walanda mwandini, You are right some of these bloggers behave like they are not Zambians, we have to love what we have. H.E MCS is a good man and has shown it, but still you get some people who still live with hate. Awe sure Kwaliba indoshi ishi shitasha nangufye one day. PRESIDO WE LOVE YOU.

  56. Sata can b a Joke.Sending Ruphia to watch wat…???????Why not Grey Zulu??
Anyway,if u know football,i vory coast is getting the Cup,there is no need to dream.

  57. This is suspect, what plane are they using? he is planning to elimnitae these people, Sata’s muderous mind is well known to all.

  58. This is great to all our presidents. God bless our current president and past presidents. Love one another. Thank you Mr.president Sata for extending a hand to Mr.former president RB and KK the great. This is the way to work with and care for past presidents. God bless Zambia and grant our national team a success over Ivory Coast. I wish I was in Zambia at this time. God bless our team. You are God of Zambia. Lord remember our team which died in Gabon in order to win a cup. God give us a cup this time.

  59. This is very classy of you, Mr. President!!! I did not see this one coming, but you have really proved to be a great statesman already. Zambia Is Greater Than Any Single One Of Us!!! Your actions keep making us proud … Live Long & Prosper.

You are the best, thanks a trillion.

  60. There will be 22 of us on the field even though our opponents will only be able to see 11.

@ Mataco Yanjoka I like the way you think. Its always good to look at the other side.

  61. Wait so if some one is a minister or president then the can get away with crime? Just because of a stupid football game? Come on Zambians we cannot be this pathetic. Slavery and Africa’s colonialism by the west and Persians happened due to our smiling at everything attitude. President or ex the need to face justice if the are criminals. If that’s the case then let every thief in Zambia go free. Mu Zambia problem Bantu ku shishita; government money is national money. I guess even educated people in Zambia are dowanzy enough to think someone is smarter than them just because he was a major political figure. Let’s grow up and change; foot all is just some sport that Zambia can do with or with out.

  62. Certain people in Zambia have the Muzungu wanga ani konde attitude, that needs to die or Zambia shall be a great democracy only in voting. Mwanawasa at the least had a 25% infusion of the Chinese drive to develop and progress at any cost. In china a non Christian nation a drug dealer shall dance to a 21 gun salute with all pulley tips as their reward. In Zambia barabus just like in Jesus’s times would be set free just because we have weak mindsin office. Really!!!!!!!!
    It’s a saturday I shouldn’t be this upset.

  63. Another good move MR PRESIDENT! Let RB feel important too\:d/ and not just ba KK. This weekend, it’s all about ZAMBIA period. We’ll resume all the political nonsense and rangles after we celebrate out victory against Ivory Coast. Go ZAMBIA……:-\”

  64. Politics aside the move by the president to include RB on delegation list is a good move & deserves to be commended,in zambia the law says *not guilty until proven guilty *
Great move mr President,i knew i was voting for a man of action:)

  65. Have you noticed that ever since president Sata took over power, he has never said bad things about RB or even HH. Sata is a good man, though we demonise him.His fight is against corruption and not individuals. Thank u Mr President for extending that olive branch.

  66. United we stand and divided we fall. Thanx Mr President for putting country before yourself. Uku kwena mwatupika bakateka as my friend Brave said. I together with most people did not see this one coming. However scorn the critics may pour on you, you are wiser than we have given you credit for. Continue doing what’s best for the country and always remember, nobody truly appreciates a good person (when I am right, no one remembers, but when I am wrong, no one forgets. The son of God paid with his life for being perfect.
    God bless you Mr President.

  67. I love this.Mr President you are true leader. You have shown us that we may differ in opinions but we remain brothers and sisters. We all love mother Zambia and we have no other home but Zambia!!Go chipolopolo GOOOOO……!! We are no longer underdogs!

  68. That is our preseident. RB would never have done such a favour to Sata. Shame those who think you are which-hunting. If he stole, that time will come also. RB was accussing police of not having gotten in touch with his son. Why can’t he tell the police where he is? He was saying things without shame on TV. Allow your son to be interviewed you shameless man. If he broke the law, he will be nabbed it is just a question of time. Ask Chungu, he will tell you that you cannot hide from the world.

  69. First congrats to CHIPOLOPOLO guys!!!! Its very good thing that the heart of zambia MR.SATA invites ME.BANDA!! i m very exited for the final n i hope we r the winner guysssssss!!!!!!Gooooo!!!!! CHIPOLOPOLO…..!!!!! Gooooo….!!!!!! get the trophy!!!! \:d/\:d/

  70. Nice photo. A picture speaks a thousand words. This is who we are as Zambians. One people. Lets cherish it. Some Countries around the world only dream about what this single photo stands for. That’s why in many respects prominent figures like President Bush & wife, Secretary of state Hilary Clinton, Archbishop of Canterbury all came to our country. And it plays well into the hands of international investors looking at the globe for stable warless countries to invest in. That photo says ‘we are it’.

  71. HH welcome to real politics….Now all your strategies will be reviewed by RB to Sata when RB deliver the CUP to state on Monday…. Well done Mr President good a gesture…we know there is a method in your madness

  72. A very good sign of nationhood. maybe the cadres wi;ll realise that they should not amputate one another. The big bwanas are dinning together

  73. THAT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE. THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO FOSTER LOVE, UNITY, TRUST AND RECONCILIATION. HOW I WISH THIS KIND OF SPIRIT WAS THE WAY OF LIFE IN ZAMBIA.ITS GOOD TO SEE OUR LEADERS WORKING TOGETHER LIKE THAT AND THATS WHAT WE WANT.PLEASE EXTEND IT TO AREAS OF NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

  74. THIS IS THE RISE OF CHIPOLOPOLO,LET’S GO LET’S GO LET’S GO CHIPOLOPOLO,CONGRATULATION ZAMBIA MAY GOD BLESS YOU,YOU DESERVE THIS CUP YOUR GAME IS SUPPER AS CHIPOLOPOLO?WHY NOT TO WIN THIS GAME COME ON WE EAT GOOD INGRIDEINTS FOOD LIKE NSHIMA ,KAPENTA MIXT NE NEFISACHI AND MIXT INFIKOUBALA WITH GOOD HAELTH BORN NATURAL RICH,I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE IN ZAMBIA BUT NO MATTER THE DISTANCE I CAN FELL THE VICTORY THANK YOU ZAMBIA ICHIPOLOPOLO CHIMO IS ENOUGH KO KILL AN ELEPHANT THE RISE OF ZAMBIA IN MEMERY OF THE LATE PLAYER’S MAY YOUR SOUL REAST IN PEACE

  75. I like Zambia, and happy that we won the game. I was glad to be in the capital at one time…we are good cousins with Malawi. Zambians, like Malawians, are determined people and alway aim high. It is in our blood!
