A nurse at Kitwe Central Hospital appeared in Kitwe Magistrate Court and narrated how she was beaten up by two men who had brought a patient at the hospital.

Appearing before Kitwe Magistrate Densen Muchaba, Cecilia Kalonga 29, narrated that on March 7, she was working on a night shift from Luapula ward when a patient died from the ward and she went to inform the doctor down stairs.

Ms Kalonga said on her way back from seeing the doctor, she came across a group of people who were shouting and insulting nurses who later turned on her threatening that they were going to beat her up.

She narrated that she later explained to them that she was not operating from the Out –Patient Department but they did not listen to her and later the two accused started beating her up accusing her of negligence.

She added that the two men punched her on the head, back and chest and threw away her wig and was only rescued by one of the two men’s relative.
Ms Kalonga further narrated that she sustained injuries and rushed to the security guard who reported the matter to the police who later arrested the two men.

And a witness who was working with Ms Kalonga in the same ward, told the court that she heard noise downstairs and decided to call her colleague on her mobile phone but Ms Kalonga answered in between sobs and said she had been beaten by two men.

The two accused denied the assault charge slapped on them when they appeared for plea before Magistrate Muchaba who found them with a case to answer.

Particulars of the matter are that on March 7, 2012, Felix Mulenga, 25 and Silas Chintu, 32 of house number M65 Chamboli in Kitwe jointly and whilst acting together did assault Cecilia Kalonga 29 of house number 13 Geddis street Nkana East thereby causing occasioning bodily harm contrary to section 248 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Magistrate Muchaba has since set April 7, this year for commencement of trial on the accused.

  1. zambian nurses when in clothes ther Angels but when in Uniforms Devils.Go to UTH u will see it.iam not talking from without here.

  2. dont be so negative on nurses. they are working under very difficult conditions. one nurse nursing 70 pipo, where on earth would one provide quality service?

    • That does not mean you have a bad attitude or become sacastic. Wait until it happens to you then you will understand what people are talking about. Experience is the best teacher. Or maybe you are a nurse yourself believe its fine to behave like that!!!

  3. Violence is uncalled for. But nurses and doctors, pliz attend to patients. Its painful and frustrating rushing a loved one to hospital to find no one to attend to the patient. You look round only to see nurses busy chatting and applying make-up

  4. You should see how these same nurses slave when they go to work in UK. Zambians just generally treat each other badly.

  5. good thing they clobbered the ka nurse. sad that they may serve time in jail. i wish i was there i could have slapped the nurse as well. these chaps think they own us.

  6. bUT THIS NURSE HAPPENED JUST TO BE THERE AND WHY SHOULD PEOPLE REJOICE THAT SHE WAS BEATEN WHEN SHE WASN’T RUDE IN ANYWAY.EVEN IF SHE WAS RUDE THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO DEAL WITH THE SITUATION.PEOPLE JUST TAKE THEIR RELATIVES LATE TO THE HOSPITAL AND ALSO MANY PEOPLE TO NOT ACCEPT DEATH AND BLAME IT ON OTHERS.

  7. Our Country as become a playing ground for evil people and indeed the Devil himself. How can someone be that heartless? I mean, how can a nomal person start beating up someone who has nothing to do with your relative’s death? Surely in the End people will be against one another.

  8. These nurses provoke the situation sometimes, even nurses at Company Clinic in kitwe have a dont care type attitude towards their clients, typical of a private clinic.

  9. cant there be a law to stop drunk people visiting or escorting patients to the hospitals/clinics .these are a cause of confusion as they are anable to think properly and easly pick up issues with staff..

  10. I’m so so sad such a thing could happen where a death of a loved one human being is taken away by God the creator and you start clobbering an innocent one nurse?God save us from this evil……….GRZ make sure you punish these perpetrators, period!

  11. # 7 (true) that’s what you have heard or made up from your warped small brain, why do most zambians talk lots of rubbish ? Where did you see Zambian Nurses work like slaves in the UK ? Wechisushiwe

  12. I meant 6 , but number 7 is also a no Brainer , How can sane Human beings celebrate when somebody is being beaten up , she could even been killed . You number 7said you could have slapped the Nurse , Let me tell you that I could have kicked your Arse if I was there !

  13. drunk or not the ka little asss hooole dezerved a kick in her soiled butt. she is a loser . no amount of intimidation should stop people kicking these little devils

  14. There is a big problem with our health workers, some of them are too arrogant when attending
to patients. It is sad that the authorities don`t act on this matter to normalize the situation. The truth is that 75 % of our nurses have a very bad attitude towards work. Sure something must be done to these guys.
