Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland Honored as Senior Headwoman Butambo

First Lady Mutinta Hichilema and Commonwealth Secretary-General, Ms. Patricia Scotland

Yesterday marked a historic moment as the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Ms. Patricia Scotland, was bestowed with the title of Senior Headwoman Butambo of Bweengwa under Chief Hamusonde’s Chiefdom.

His Royal Highness Chief Hamusonde conferred the honorary title in recognition of Ms. Scotland’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace, security, and the rule of law within the Commonwealth, including Zambia. The gesture reflects the Chiefdom’s appreciation of her efforts in fostering unity and justice among nations.

In his address, Chief Hamusonde emphasized the importance of a just and fair society, where exemplary leadership and good citizenry are acknowledged and celebrated. He underscored the value of unity and respect as pillars of progress.

The ceremony served as a reminder of Zambia’s national motto—One Zambia, One Nation, One People—reinforcing the country’s dedication to inclusivity and shared values.

  1. Refreshing moment, a step ahead. Thanks goes to all those that made it possible and appreciated the occasion, the moment and the event. History in the making.

  2. Corruption at work. Selling out an entire village to a foreigner? And someone wonders how we got entangled into slavery in the 15th century!!

    • It is an honorary title. She is a woman of color in simple language a black person. So what is your problem? If such can not take place in your community do not stop others where their traditions allow.

    • The Bembas (or Luba/Lunda people) at one point appointed a white catholic priest as Paramount chief Chitimukulu.

    • Iwe chilli or Webo Chili, Chitimukulu is not a paramount chief in Luapula. Noone in Luapula is his subject.
I hope you can see the difference in my address to you above. In Luapula it is “webo” In northern province olo Kasama it is ‘iwe’

  3. Headwoman ship sorted out. When do we start sorting out bread and butter issues? Cost of living currently the highest ever since Zambia was born. Can we address this as a priority please

    • The so called bread and butter issues are not one off thing. Its a trend that started when we got independence. One option we have is simply to decentralize. The problem can not be solved overnight.

  4. Patricia Scotland is not British , she’s born and raised in Dominica in the Caribbean .

    • Kikikikikiki! We should nt worry about this foreigner named after one of our colonial masters becoming our chief. After all Steve Harvey has been a chief for a long time in North Western province and Noone has complained!

  5. Tonga democracy. Get a headman anywhere and impose him/her on the natives. In future s/he could even get promoted to paramount chief

  6. What has happened to our Tonga tribe? Have they run out of natives to bestow such leadership titles?
