Twin Sister Act Mints Medals

Share

Twins sisters Rachel and Rabecca Nachula made history for Zambia in international track and field with gold and bronze wins respectively in the same event during the 400 meters women’s final race at Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India on Wednesday.

Rachel also set a new games record of 52.97 sec to cap her Gold medal triumph after finishing ahead of Poovamma Raju Machettira of India who took silver for the host nation with a time of 55.17 sec.

Rebecca got bronze but only after a photo-finish for bronze with Canadian Alyssa Shela Johnson after finishing with the same time of 55.20 sec.

The twins wins made up for Zambia’s gloomy start on day one of the Commonwealth Youth Games when two of three hopefuls in the boxing event tumbled out.

However on Wednesday, flyweight boxer Peter Shula who was the last Zambian fighter still standing was also eliminated to end all medal hopes in that event.

Shula lost 16-0 at the quarterfinals to Sunil Sadhu of India after a promising start in Tuesdays preliminary stage bout that saw him qualify to Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

The boxer from ZNS amateur boxing club was overwhelmingly out-pointed by Sadhu who won 6-0, 3-0, 4-0 and 3-0 in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds respectively.

Shula joined two other Zambian boxers out of the Commonwealth Youth Games namely light flyweight Pethias Chisenga and welterweight Stephen Silungwe.

Chisenga and Silungwe both bowed out in the preliminary stage of the games on Monday.

The Commonwealth Youth Games kicked off on Monday, October 12 and close this Sunday on the 12th.

  1. Baiche wait for Ponyax to come and impregnant both of you at once so that you can have a double gold. Nibwela nanjemanje muzakachiona bafana.

  2. I had to even blog the achievements of the nachula sisters on my blog shalalaoliversepiso . blogspot . com because LT was not reporting on them. These two, especially Rachael are going to bring medals to Zambia no doubt. Watch this space.

  3. #4. Prof AKULU MPUNO, Funny man. You know the wrong chaps. That’s not me. I am a very honourable young man. I love Zambian sports and I even volunteer time for Zambian sports. I am promoting her because she is Zambia and she has done a great job.

  4. Thats more decent sport that we can be proud of. Not those others where you kill people to be crowned champion. Big up sisters! Serena and Venus may be?

  6. LIKE I HAVE SAID BEFORE, THE WOMEN IN ZAMBIA KEEP ON WINNING AND GETTING US OUR DESERVED EXPOSURE, BUT DO THEY EVER GET ANY CREDIT NO. WE ARE BUSY PROMOTING ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A GAME ZAMBIA PLAYED AND YOUWERE SURE THEY WERE GOING TO WIN, EVEN IN A LOSS MOST TEAMS PUT UP A FIGHT, SO LET US INVEST IN OUR WOMEN, IT IS CLEAR THEY NOT ONLY WIN, THEY WIN BIT. ESTHER, MELISSA, RACHEL AND RABECCA, AND MANY OTHERS; THE PRIDE WE HAVE AS ZAMBIAN MEN IS THE REASON THE BEST OF OUR SISTERS ARE MARRIED BY PEOPLES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD IN DROVES, YOU KNOW THIS IS TRUE. THOUGH I DO NOT STOP ANYONE FROM MARRYING WHO EVER THE ARE MOST SUITED FOR. GOD MAKES WOMEN STRONGER.

  7. PONYAX MY BROTHER, PLEASE USE THIS SPACE GIVEN TO FURTHER ZAMBIAN MINDS AND WISDOM, JUST FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE; JOKES ARE WELCOME, JUST DO NOT BE CRUDE. WE ALL KNOW YOU ARE CAPABLE OF BETTER, AND I AM NOT INSULTING YOU; MORE LIKE HELPING A BROTHER OUT.

  8. congrats to both of them and wish them all the best for future glory for mother zambia. they need to be nurtured and alias mpndela need to keep a distance coz am told he is bad news with little gals……

  10. #13 I GUESS YOU OWE PONYAX AN APOLOGY, DO NOT TAKE THIS HASHLY, BUT I TOO ACCEPT CORRECTIONS AND ADVICE. ZAMBIANS NEED TO WORK TOGETHER, NOT AGAINST EACH OTHER.

  11. # 19 PONYAX THATS TOO MUCH YOU OWE US AN APOLOGY FOR THESE INSULTS. ITS UN ZAMBIAN MY BROTHER I THINK YOU MUST BE SOME REBEL FIGHTER FOR JOSEPH KONI

  14. #13, I sleeped with your mother and sister in one night for 30 pin. tasty game meat!!!! Village chicken (your mother) and free ranger (your sister)

  15. # 32 Tormentor amen coz # 13 was fathered by a dog by the name of ( danger ) thats why he can say anything. As shimapepo I have forgiven you chiiiiiiikaaaaaaaaaalaaaaaaaachooooooooobeeeeeeee.

  16. Congrats to the twins.. But there time wont win a Medal at any higher recognisd championship in the IAAF Grandprix, WC, or olympics. Nachula need to reduce her time to below 50 seconds to really have some chance of making it.
With good training and feed programmes, she should be able to lower her time and give a chance to Zambia for medal at world Championship next year…

  17. You girls are brilliant, may God reward you so dearly my sisters. As a Zambian I will always hold you up very high. Shine, Shine, Shine girls, we love you. Now you see that Zambia can do it regardless. The sky is the limit. You are just amazing! Well done to all who participated from Zambia. Better luck next time.

  22. the nachulas yu hear appears more less like men its hard to believe that ni ba kazi just come watch them on any athletics games within mu zed.

  23. Twatotela mwe nkashi shesu. Mwatuletela nsansa fwe bena Zed. Lesa apale nokulundila po imyaka pa buumi bwenu. Congrats girls. Look not down but ever foward with hope and pride.

  24. I bet they won cuase the competition was without Sanya Richards of USA and Ohuruogu of Great Britain. Otherwise or better say the athletes were all useless to loose from the Nachulas. What do you expect from the indians atheletics?

  25. No# 48, are you really in England, if so you would have known that Common Wealth relates to England and it former colonies, who I think should not even be a part of for I do not see its purpose. Plus Jamaica is represented, it being the best athletic nation in the world at the moment, so it really does not bare fruit that you had to act like the Zambians that always condem everything. Could you not give them the credit they deserve. The beat future olympic athetes of these respective countries period. People Looked down on either Chingangu or Chisanda Muti, but do you know one of them actually fought a future back then heavy weight champion, in the name of Evander Holyfield.

  26. Tulelanda pali Heros welcome. Why give the best welcome to the kiss in the Big brother and not to girls like these. Come on guys lets think
