FORMER President, Rupiah Banda’s son Andrew, is today expected to appear before Government investigative wings for further interrogation.
Mr Banda, who is Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to India, was on May 1, this year interrogated in connection with his alleged solicitation of two per cent payment made on all road contracts offered to an Italian company, Fratelli Locci.

Joint Government Investigative Wings public relations officer, Namukolo Kasumpa, said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that Mr Banda would appear for interrogation in Woodlands at 10:00 hours.

“Mr Banda will appear at 10:00 hours for an interview and more details would be issued afterwards,” she said.

It is believed that the agreement between Fratelli Locci and Mr Banda was signed in July, last year.

Mr Banda was also being investigated on allegations of receipt of suspected proceeds of crime.

He is alleged to have received more than K195 million from the Italian company, which was engaged for road projects by the Road Development Agency (RDA).

Two weeks ago, the investigative wings were studying the documents Mr Banda submitted over his alleged solicitation of two per cent payment made on the road contracts.

Ms Kasumpa said investigations in the matter had continued, while verification of the issues that came up during the previous interview with Mr Banda was also being done.

  1. Andrew is not a bad person in my opinion. He did not even play as a cohort of his fathers regime. His only `crime` is being one of the Banda sons. He tried to do business like an ordinary person but these Italians are muselela kwakabas and want to show something to the current regime. He is a straight person and the more reason why he is still Deputy High Commissioner to Indian. If he was really found wanting, why was he not recalled?

  2. #3 well said and totally agree with you…. Andrew is ok am stronger PF support but naturally under the law when investigating fraud investigators interview immediate family members too its common practice all over the world

  3. Why is he still in the diplomatic service with all the corruption charges he is facing?

  4. OLD news. These lazy journals at times of zambia arent doing their job. this is just a follow up on the ongoing interviews not a summons you lazy evelyn hone students

  5. 195 million chabe that’s nothing please go after your morons membe and nchito they have our 14billion

  6. Its true, Andrew is a very good and straight forward person. His involvement with contractor is ok. After all, he is a business man who has to make profit despite bn in govt. He is cleanest amongest the three sons of RB.

  7. # 8. What meembe and Ncito did was pure business transaction that did not materialise hence company went under. Do you think if it was a deal, RB could have spared them?? They do not have any case to answer. Just politics were at work.

    • Nchito and Mmembe claim that Henry B and Siliya worked together to bring down their airline so they could get theirs (Zambezi airlines) running without competition.

  8. Mmembe and Nchito are making ba Sata look really bad….. Someone needs to talk to them.

  9. so if all the time the police are questioned & criticised for everything & everyone they question, do u Zambians think anyone will be brought to book? i mean, seriously, there was so much corruption in the MMD government but each time the police try to do their job, they are criticised! this is sickening!!

  10. ZAMBIANS, HOLD YOUR GUNS, Let’s get serious. These Banda boys really abused office, they were Involved in Road construction deals which they did not even deliver and got payments. Let’s get serious; HOW DO WE MOVE FORWARD IF SUCH malpractices are not questioned?? Let him Answer. Nothing wrong with being a President’s son But Abuse of Father’s Office is wrong and should be questioned. The 2% Nonsense should be Investigated.

  11. The Joint Government Investigative Wings are exhibiting the worst forms of hyprocricy in their quest to foregore their professional ethics so as to please the thirst for plunder being executed by the PF top brass – their ephemeral Masters’. What probes have these Investigative Wings done to unravel the greater evil that Mmembe and Nchito have inflicted on the national institution – the Development Bank of Zambia? Guy Scott is openly in the limelight to corrupt the voters in Livingstone but the Joint Government Investigative Wings have chosen to burry their heads in the sand. Chakomela Galu kuluma mbuzi!

    • And you are exhibiting your lack of understanding of the issues. Mmembe and Nchito have not committed any crime so what greater evil are you talking about?

  12. What about rumours that the taskforce also investigated some journalists from public media who were paid govt money for working on The Zambian, how true. We trust you as a reliable newspaper. Please dig dip and give us full story. We want to know them.
