President Michael Sata is deeply shocked and saddened over the death of former Kasama Catholic Archdiocese Apostolic Administrator Father Ignatius Mwebe who died on Thursday evening in a road traffic accident.
Father Mwebe was on his way from Lusaka when he got involved in a road traffic accident. He was 62 years old.
A Fuso Fighter truck hit on the side of Fr Mwebe’s Toyota Hilux 20 kilometres before Kasama on Mpika Road around 18:30 hours
A motorist helped rush the clergyman to Kasama General Hospital where medical staff tried in vain to resuscitate him.
The Head of State said the late Father Mwebe offered his whole life as a selfless servant of the poor and vulnerable in our society.
Mr Sata said Father Mwebe was a humble and devoted priest whose legacy of self-sacrificing service to the Catholic Church and the nation is incomparable.
The President said he remembers Father Mwebe who also once served as Secretary General of the Zambia Episcopal Conference, as an active advocate of gender issues, constitutional matters and social justice.
This was contained in a statement released by State House Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah.
President Sata said he feels indebted to underscore Father Mwebe’s solid commitment to matters of justice and good governance in the country.
Mr Sata has expressed his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the First Lady and the Zambian Government to all Catholic faithfuls and Father Mwebe’s family over this tragic loss.
Meanwhile, Acting President Alexander Chikwanda says the death of father Ignatius Mwebe is heart breaking.
Mr Chikwanda who is also Finance Minister says Father Mwebe served the church and the nation with passion, love and humility.
He has described father Mwebe as a peace and nation builder.
Mr Chikwanda says Father Mwebe was a relentless voice and advocate of social justice and well being of the humanity.
This is contained in a statement issued by Secretary to the Cabinet, Evans Chibiliti.
Father MWEBE died in a road traffic accident in Kasama on Thursday evening.

MHSRIEP
I hope the police dont start looking for ‘brown envelopes’ in the car wreckage which he may have been carrying from Lusaka.
So sad Fr. Mwebe a humble, commited priest, You devoted yourself to serve. MHSRIP
Rest in eternal peace Rev. Fr Mwebe. May the Lord you served faithfully reward you abundantly.
#3 What really are you talking about.? I that those who does not know this Father Mwebe will talk like you. This is the man of God who dedicated his entire life to serve, the needy, poor the voiceless and spoke on their behalf in times of threats from the former ruling party(MMD) and their hired men and women. As a Catholic i feel sad and I will always miss him. Hope Father Mwebe you meet your Friend Father Joseph Chanda,Archbishop Elias Mutale and those who have left us in the place of comfort of the almight God. MYSRIP and will put you in our prayers.
We have needlessly continued to lose many lives on our Zambian roads largely because they are not safe. Its not enough by govt. to appear shocked and just express deep sympathies and condolences without taking practical measures to correct the very cause that will stop this endemic haemorrhage.
Most of these accidents are on our busy narrow roads connecting various towns being shared by vehicles of varying sizes (cars, trucks etc) carrying different cargoes going in opposite directions.
Why cant we make these roads dual carriages and save lives? The one between Kitwe & Ndola is Zambia’s safest road. We are not poor, we just have had poor managers of our national resources.
Without corrections, the shock by authorities including the President appears phony.
MYSRIEP Fr. I. Mwebe
Ndola – kitwe may seem to be the safest road as u have put it but the opposite happens..it has claimed alot of lives regardless of it being dual. Â
The most important thing is to repair that Mpika-Kasama Road. If the diatnces are correct then this point is a place called pa Musa. The road is terrible at this point. There is a place where it is just so portholed and so hidden in the shadows of the tree that you hardly notice these evil portholes until you hit them. I almost flipped at this point of the road, luckilly I was using a very heavy and well balanced C200. But I ended up bursting the sump, and we had to tow my car for 21 kms into car and it took the TAZARA workshop three days to remove and weld the alumunium sump to enable me drive back to Kitwe to properly repair the car. So I am sure the driver of the Fuso truck was tying to avoid those portholes. Awe chabika kafikepo mune we mupatili, you have ran your race.
I mean Kasama and not car
The best we can do on long distance routes is convert them into dual-carriage ways.
This will save lives, serve as commercial utilities.
MHSRIP
MHSRIP too bad you had to go that way, I hope someone can send the comments above to the President.
Why do so many prominent people die from accidents in Zambia? Is that normal?Â
Too bad , but why the FUSO fighter hit his hilux, are these the same Fuso fighters UPND is using for campaigns in Livingstone and Chama south with mmd, why take an innocent life of a virgin who never had sex in his life and left no children. Aslo any further details of the fuso fighter???what was it carrying and what about the condition of the road at that section, the other newspaper reported that it was lte at night, what was the exact time????
My father died when 61 yrs old. It’s good to die ealier than reach trouble-some old age. This man outlived my dad.
Well, had this beem a Kaonde, Lozi or worse still Tonga clergy, do you think this Bemba government would have had such good things to say, never! They can all go to hell and hang. When Ukwa dies of a heart attack, he will see how people in other porovinces shall rejoice in his demise, just like the celebrations sparked by Chilubaba’s death.
Umusula obe!!
Terminal Mutima Patient naiwe, sometimes forget about tribe issues and just make your contribution based on the story and what you know of the person/people. OK, you tell HH to resign because his fortunes at the polls is declining. Do you think he shall climb from 18% to 50%+1 in 2016 uh?
is this father mwebe bemba?
Too bad bashifwe kafikenipo tukamusanga, keep the fire burning we shall find you.
Rest in eternal peace Fr. Mwebe. May the Lord you served faithfully reward you abundantly. Will always remember your humbleness and fight for the vulnerable. Indeed the Angels are by your side.
Terminal Mutima, indeed you are a patient, how do you bring in tribalism here. Don’t be folish you are a product from the devil.
You were a faithful servant of God. Rest in the ertenal peace of the Lord you served so faithfully.
While I know that Fr Mwebe was an eminent priest, I still question the declaraton of national mourning, are we going to manage to have national mourning every week, the new constitution should look into this issue.
