President Hakainde Hichilema hosted thousands of University of Zambia (UNZA) students from both the Great East Road and Ridgeway campuses at State House, where they unveiled their newly elected student leadership for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Addressing the gathering, President Hichilema emphasized that education remains a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda.
“Education is the best investment, equaliser, and inheritance,” he said, stressing that government’s reforms are aimed at ensuring all Zambians have access to quality higher learning opportunities.
He highlighted ongoing government efforts to address challenges facing students, including accommodation shortages, sanitation concerns, and the need to expand access to higher education loans.
“We will not relent in our investment drive into the education sector because an educated and skilled population is the guaranteed pathway to economic and social development,” the President affirmed.
The Head of State expressed gratitude to the UNZA community, warmly acknowledging the presence of students from both campuses.
It’s concerning that the second time focus shifted to a student at a state house they do not reside in, signaling confusion about structure and accountability. The president rightly emphasizes education as a cornerstone of development, but real assurance to students hinges on tangible actions: secure accommodation, improved sanitation, and reliable access to education loans.
The use of dramatic front page imagery, including a large, dominant photo of the president and military framing, reads like a “big catch” tactic rather than balanced reporting. If this is intended to influence voters, readers deserve accountability: the piece should show tangible plans, not campaign theatrics. The president should address the concerns directly and demonstrate concrete actions on housing, facilities, and accessible loans without relying on photo optics to win trust.
Why is talk so cheap in Zambia
Political education should be a subject in schools
So as to recognise fact from fiction
Tal is cheap in Zambia
Feeling sorry for the misguided little souls from UNZA.
The students organised themselves to march to meet the president..,…..
It was their initiative, not the president’s…….
As we approach the first election cycle of his presidency…………
The students are showing confidence and appreciation in the way the country is moving…….

UNZA Student Union seems to have joined the ranks of UPND cadres and will never be what it has always been. A watchdog of government behavior and actions. Yes, UNZA is now a college, like Mansa Trades or Mawagali Trades. It will never produce thoughtful critical thinkers, but cadres who will remain unemployed as they pally with a failed and criminal syndicate called UPND. They are being used for 2026 elections. WHY on earth do they have to unveil their new leaders at State House? Why? They compromised themselves and they will leave to regret. UNZASU is a cadre organization now. No credibility left in them.
These kids look so ignorant on their faces. That’s why UNZA is being beaten by UNILUS. Very ignorant and badly advised cadres in training. The UNILUS Medical School is going to top UNZA Medical School just like they have done in Business, Law and Public Health. UNZA is done, and without government funding, it is a high school.
