 Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, has encouraged women in the country to participate in leadership roles and contribute to society through their work and community engagement.
Mr Mutati notes that government is slowly breaking the barriers that hinder women from actively participating in national programmes.
The media reports that speaking when he represented President Hakainde Hichilema at the 2025 Forum for Zambia Women Accountants (FZWA) National Symposium in Lusaka today, Mr Mutati indicated that the government has made strides in uplifting the welfare of women in the country.
The Minister cited the banking sector as one sector that has women executives at the helm and making bold decisions and policies.
He stated that government working with other stakeholders such as the United Nations Development Programme has empowered 8,500 girls who have benefited from the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Programme executed in schools across the country.
Mr Mutati added that three hubs for women have been established in Chisamba, Chongwe and Itezhi-tezhi Districts respectively.
Speaking earlier, FZWA National Coordinator, Changwe Mulimbika, noted that women are partners for any nation to attain economic growth.
Ms Mulimbika disclosed that the forum has decentralised operations to work in rural areas such as Eastern Province where it mentored 200 women in financial literacy and accountability.
Meanwhile, Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) Vice President, Joseph Matimba, noted that women now have more room to apply themselves and have confidence to contribute to the economic growth of the country.
Mr Matimba said ZICA has renewed its commitment to working with women because there cannot be meaningful development without the inclusion and involvement of women
