United Party for National Development (UPND) Northern Province Chairperson Nathan Ilunga has called for collective efforts to maintain a clean environment, stressing that sanitation should not be left to local authorities alone.
Mr Ilunga, who led party members in unblocking drainages in Kasama Central Business District, said the initiative is part of the party’s commitment to ensuring good hygiene across the town.
“As a party, we have a duty to ensure that Kasama and Northern Province maintain good hygiene. We are committed to doing everything possible for a green and clean environment,” he said.
He added that this month’s clean-up targeted blocked drainages to prevent flooding as the rainy season has begun.
And Northern Province UPND Chairlady Annie Namuchenje encouraged marketeers to dispose of waste in designated areas, noting that proper garbage disposal enables local authorities to collect waste efficiently.
“Diarrheal diseases are common, especially during the rainy season, hence the need to maintain cleanliness in all trading places,” she said.
Meanwhile, Northern Provincial UPND Vice Youth Chairman Bright Mweemba urged youths nationwide to refrain from violence and engage in productive activities, emphasizing that being involved in violence only leads to imprisonment.
