Gwembe Town Council has allocated 10 million Kwacha towards the Presidential Constituency Solar Energy Initiative in Gwembe District.
Gwembe District Town Council Secretary Habwacha Hachongo says that 4 hectares of land has been secured for the establishment of the project which is aimed at enhancing access to sustainable and reliable energy within the district.
Mr Hachongo added that the Local Authority hopes that the initiative will be able to attract investors to partner with the Town Council.
“As the Local Authority we priotised allocating K10 million Kwacha of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) towards the initiative,” Mr Hachongo said.
He further said that the initiative is also a venture to enhance revenue for the local authority.
Beyond energy, Gwembe residents are also benefiting from improved water supply through the ongoing water reticulation projects in schools and health facilities.
Gwembe District Commissioner Killian Chikandula says the water reticulation project has benefited a number of schools and health facilities in the district.
Mr Chikandula added that most CDF projects have water reticulation attached to them hence improving people’s livelihood.
“The Gwembe we see today is not the same as the Gwembe we saw five years ago, everyone is testifying, water reticulation projects have improved sanitation in the district,” Mr Chikandula said.
Meanwhile, an expectant mother in Munyumbwe area, Melisa Mibunga, is grateful to the government for providing water at the hospital.
Ms Mibunga said that expectant mothers used to struggle to get drinking and bathing water adding that now they get it with ease.
“The government should be commended for bringing water to Munyumbwe hospital, now we have access to bathing water, we are so grateful,” Ms Mibunga said.
