The office of the Public Protector has called on citizens, political parties and local authorities countrywide to prioritize environmental cleanliness.
Public Protector Caroline Sokoni says her Office, which serves as an environmental watchdog, has observed widespread environmental neglect in communities across the country.
In a recorded statement issued in Lusaka today Ms Sokoni noted that clogged drainages, uncollected garbage and poor sanitation in public spaces reflect failure in service delivery.
She explained that while maladministration is often difficult to detect because it occurs within administrative systems and processes, its effects become evident through deteriorating public infrastructure and unsanitary environments.
Ms Sokoni said broken toilets, unmanaged waste and neglected public facilities provide tangible evidence of poor administration.
The Public Protector has since called on political parties to incorporate clean-up activities in their campaign programmes ahead of the August 13 General Election.
Ms Sokoni has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia and local authorities to encourage political players to leave campaign areas clean and free from litter.
She emphasised that promoting accountability and integrity in governance should begin with responsible behavior at community level.
