The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has refuted reports that it pushed in a late entry to participate in the ongoing Western province constitution convention.
The Kuta told ZANIS in Limulunga today that the position of the Barotse Royal Establishment that it would not take part in the constitution making process still stands.
Induna Kalonga explained that the BRE sent three Indunas to the ongoing provincial convention yesterday to go and inform the technical committee that the BRE’s stance on the issue still remained the same.
“We are still consulting our district Kutas and other stakeholders over the same issue before a final policy statement is given to the government and the Western provincial administration was advised accordingly,” he explained.

Induna Kalonga said the BRE was not happy with some media reports suggesting that the Litunga had sent three Indunas to represent him at the convention.
The Induna has since demanded for a retraction adding that there was need for journalists to verify their facts before writing stories.
He said the Litunga can never be quoted in any news story but his spokesperson the Ngambela or any Induna representing the BRE.
The constitution convention is being held at Mongu College of Education and has attracted many stakeholders from all the districts in the province.
The convention ends this Saturday.

twatendwa!
go to hell chacho
There you go ..Lozis..these people are complicated , twisted and undecided and frankly they just don’t even know what they want ..and why will such a big man dressed in a western suit sitting down like a villager who is scared of a nice and comfortable chair behind them. I don’t understand these people mwe
Truly Observer, you do not understand Marotse. That is why they see strength in diversity. That there should be value in both singular and plurarity. Do not fear the unknown.
Of course you don’t understand because they think beyond your level… this culture has been around for centuries, long before your people even knew civilisation. ‘…Sitting down like a villager…’ Yes because he is a villager, what’s wrong with that. Talk about inferioty complex, some people think sitting on a chair is the only civilisation there is, how sad indeed! Now I understand why my people want out of this ‘union’ with people like you. Someone writing from the USA still couldn’t appreciate tradition and culture.
At my wedding the next day, my wife and I were sitted on a mat like that and my Western friends thought it was the coolest thing they had experienced and here is the Muntu Monkey thinking this is bad. Small brains indeed.
Iwee chi Jiga, if you can call your fellow Zambian a Muntu Monkey, what do your same so called western friends call you?
Have they brain washed you to the extent of you thinking you are differnt from all of us.
not that I agree with Observer, let us learn to respect ou r culture. The induna sitting on the floor gets all the salutes from me, dressed in western clothes he may be, but he holds our African culture. something that every well meaning Zambian / African must be proud of.
@Nationalist, thanks for the ‘spanking’ and I appreciate your appreciation of the old man sitting on the floor.
The ‘Muntu monkey’ slur was directed at Observer’s disdain, him alone as a sarcastic slur to emphasise his lower thinking capacity; also as stereotype of a tribe that eats monkeys. It was never intended to be used in the context of the racial discrimination by some western racists… and nah my friends aren’t uncivilised to think I’m a monkey.
In any case I hear you and will refrain from using it next time.
what would you understand? you have no culture, that is a rich respectul culture, sitting down (on the floor) since you have no knowledge thats why you think its for villagers. By the way a villager is the best person cultured and full of tradition. Musukwa laho.
why am l not surprised? l knew someone would crawl out from under a rock and toss a grenade at the progressives in western province who are not interested in the sinyindas of this world and other air heads
What about the three Indunas appearing in the daily mail today. Rev. Matale was welcoming them.
Aluta Continua! Wachila N’umbili!
And when i ask for the general opinion for the Lozi populous whether they still want to be a part of Zambia or not all i get are more thumbs down than the ups ? Time these people came out of the wood work and state their true position.
The point is that Barotse needs self determination. They have self-determined themselves before! Ever seen the level of poverty and umemployment being exprienced there? Visit Marotse villages and you will shed tears!
They are afraid to be arrested and killed in mumbwa jails.
What is Komedy Seka Seka saying about these reports from his media?
These are complicated people.Don’t think that when they smile all is good.Wait and see how these people behave.I have lived with them for the past 11years but all i know is that it won’t be easy to dialogue with them especially that they were promised from the current president himself.Wait and see
SATA SAID THAT IN 90DAYS HE WILL IMPLEMENT THE BATROSE LAND AGREEMENT I WONDER WHY IT IS NOT IN THE DRAFT CONSTITUTION
As a Lozi, I am ashamed by the confusion that these Indunas are creating. The majority of the enlightened Lozis do not want to break away from Zambia. Unfortunately, we have a lot of people in rural areas (and Western Province is mainly rural) who do not know the difference between running a country and heading a village. Secondly, there is a lot of secrecy shrouding the Litunga which creates a sense of fear among the people. Opportunists are taking advantage of this to confuse the people. I think it’s time the Litunga came out of the closet and spoke directly to the people. I was pleased to see the Litunga come out and speak – though to a group of priests. But he spoke directly. What is going on gives credence to what one politician called us – complicated people!
@ Observer —- Correct! No right-thinking Lozi should tolerate any outdated modes of problem solving. One of the problems tha Barotseland developmental problems are not being resolved quickly is precisely because the leaders concetrate on creating barriers between their people and themselves as leaders. The BRE should come out and talk to people and galvanise them about development, not always talking about outdated issues. Why don’t they focus on organising people to maximise rice and fish production, and modernise the Kuomboka and tourism in general – instead of always just sitting on the backsides doing nothing waiting for govt! It is infuriating. Barotseland is one of the top richest regions in Zambia. However, the issue is that BRE and Litunga are failing to lead, simple.
Let us have facts from Kaunda first before he dies and the litunga him self to state his position.Sata also should give his opinion why the change after promising.
We barotse have over 5 centuries of spacecraft. Don’t insult us by yo ignorance.
Spacecraft
Statecraft
I easily tell that you are not Lozi… please stop masquerading as a Lozi to try and give legitimacy to your ignorance. How could a Lozi say the Litunga should come out of the close and speak to people directly. Are you a Lozi from Muchinga? For your info, that man occupying The Litungaship has his work cut out for him – he has very few public ‘freedoms’ (like running your mouth in public) and that’s what you sign for when you accept the office; unlike your President who is everything and runs his mouth unrestrained. Why do you think some people refuse to be a Litunga and choose to run far, far away from the seat. The Litungaship is sacred and is the most respected chiefs in Zambia, if not in Africa.
It must be appreciated that the BRE’s position has been consistently clear on this issue. Of concern it would have been, had they capitulated.
Can the Litunga please summon his subject at Bwinjimfumu road for some stern advice, quick!
These people are mad, i give up.
How? why not give up on PF bwana veep?
I told you it was lie, you didn’t believe me… glad you are ‘giving up’ (whatever that means).
Marriage is complex once one partner has cheated on the other. Sigh. It’s cool. Sooner or later it will come down to dialogue.
Mice Mata cheated the Lozi pipo there4 it’s nosensical to be part of pf conventions.
BRE keep our confiden?ce in our unity of purpose
THE INDUNAS ARE MAKING THEMSELVE EVEN MORE IRREREVANT…TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP NEVER SUCCEDED JUST LOOK AT SAWAZILAND… THE BRE IS BECOMING SMALLER AND SMALLER IN THE GRAND PICTURE OF WESTERN PROVINCE
actually, when it was discovered these people had gone there to cement their position, they were curtailed from speaking.
lozis will never ever be cheated again.
please dialogue with them before they move out. they are even ready for war with you.
@chitalu why change your name to @oberver? come out and exoress your fears because they are now even more scary of the truth.
i give respect to the lusaka times for being proeffessional and reporting things as they are. they dont cook stories.
bravo lusaka times for informing the nation on what is going on
You have also addressed yourself as @chitalu,what is the difference?
30 million jumbwi just like that! dont kubeba!
IF THEY HAD REFUSED EARLIER, THEN IT DIDN`T MAKE ANY SENSE EVEN TO APPEAR THERE. WHY DID THEY EVEN WAIST TIME TO TRAVEL AND SEAT DOWN LIKE THAT. ANOTHER THING IS THAT, I DON`T THINK IT MATTERS OR IF THEY STAY AWAY FROM IT BECAUSE TO ME IT IS JUST LIKE A POLITICAL PARTY THAT BOYCOTTS THE ELECTIONS BECAUSE IT HAS NO REPRESENTATIVE. THIS IS DEMOCRACY AND THE MAJORITY RULES, SO EVEN IF THEY BOYCCOT, STILL FOR MOST ZAMBIANS LIFE GOES ON EVEN FOR MY BEAUTIFUL LOZI WIFE AND OUR MAVELOURS CHILDREN
THE MAIN QUESTION I ASK IS: DID THESE PEOPLE REALLY GET INVOLVED IN FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM OR NOT?
Yes they did fight for ‘freedom’. First Zambian to lead a political Party was Godwin Mbikusita Lewanika. KK and his arsonists thugs burnt Munu Sipalo to prevent him from contesting for the UNIP Presidency in 1959. By the way what is this FREEDOM you are talking about? If Sata’s Zambia of persecution and the colonial Public Order ACT is your idea of Freedom; then I would like to remind you that Zambia is still stuck in the pre 24 Oct 1964 period!
The simple answer is yes they did fight for freedom. They also fought to get back lands which lie outside the borders of the colonial imposed boundaries. Inconvenient truth that makes some people steam. Your question ‘could’ be – were they all UNIP to which the answer is no. It didn’t matter to UNIP who then enforced a one party state. There is an issue whether people choose to sweep it under the rug for another generation to deal with or not. Don’t sign what you don’t intend to honor then cry foul when it is pointed out. Amalgamation of NR and Barotseland = Zambia. Constitutional quagmire exists whether people like it or not. Is it resolvable. Yes. Dialogue.
For the stupid and primitive pipo that silly coments go 2hel.do u think an educated lozi cn think of separatin if the wer problems in barotse.this z due 2d selfishnes of d zambian leaders.education started the.hw many skoow ar the,hw many universits ar the, nothin.do u thnk u cn favor if he sapots hz than yo mmtha.zambga is a top copper producer in africa, wat ar benefitin out of dat.if u ar u ar wise enaf u must consideq this.
I do not know where the myth has come from that Western Province is so wealthy with overflowing resources. A constitution can be passed nullifying the agreement and am quite disappointed in Lozis defending the Litunga who signed them into a poor bargain. Barotseland does not have MPs in the house and last I checked, MMD’s stance is similar to PF’s. Good luck guys, you will need it.
Lord voldemort,
These guys are planning on having a country to be international beggers. The syndrome that every other country is trying so hard to breakaway from. I hope they also understand that the developed world is really struggling now and international funding is shrinking at threefold levels in these tough times. Its the poormans syndrome to beg just like we have poeple on the dough here. They are just beggers being fed by the goverment from the taxes we pay. Its a bad syndrome. I wish them luck.
@Cat Power… stop lying, who told Barotses want to beg. It is your Zambians who are perpetual beggers and then steal when they are given from the very poor people they use as a bargaing tool.
Barotseland wants to be on her own, just like they were long before the Zambian Union was formed. Do you really have a problem with the truth to fail to acknowledge the source of all these self-created problems we are witnessing? That Zambia was formed by the union of N/Rhodesia and Barotseland via the BA’64.
This is the entire country is a slam and can’t develop because the citizens like you are dishonest and have problems facing the truth. Did you ever wonder your own Prez hasn’t published the findings of his own created Commission of Inquiry? Shame.
It’s good these things are happening when Europe is reeling in dept crisis. Now western province strengthen your ties with Zambia. Seek development and shame government and traditional leaders.
I’m behind for a good length of time now, what is the boundery like for the BRE?
I knew that the story (coming from the Times) was always going to be a propaganda desperation coming from those who have run out of ideas. I was always right after all, of course I was.
Nowlook at the same people who were praising the BRE and The Litunga only yesterday do a complete u-turn and start insulting him again.
Just proves how this country would never develop (like, never!) because the people who live in it lack objectivity in their thinking. They just praise and condemn based on convenience and not principle.
THIS IS AN INDICATION THAT THE BA64 IS PROBABLY IRRELEVANT.
1. WHY DID THE FIRST THREE INDUNAS APPEAR AT THE CONFERENCE IF THEY ONLY WANTED TO RE-STATE THEIR POSITION? THEY COULD HAVE JUST WRITTEN A LETTER TO THE SAME EFFECT.
2. WHY DID THESE INDUNAS SAY WHAT THEY SAID?
3. WHY DID THE STAKE-HOLDERS IN WP TURN UP FOR THE CONFERERENCE IN LARGE NUMBERS IF THE ENTIRE WP DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE PART AS PURPORTED?
4. WHOSE INTEREST IS THE BRE SERVING?
AM SORRY TO SAY THAT THE INDUNAS HAVE APPEARED CONFUSED, DISORGANISED LIKEPEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW WHA THEY ARE DOING.
I URGE THE GOVERNMENT TO HELP THESE PEOPLE. IT IS A PATHETIC DRAMA. LET THE CIRCUS CONTINUE. IT IS NOW BECOMING CLEAR THAT THE WHOLE THING IS JUST FOOLISH. AM SORRY TO SAY THAT.
Its shameful to be Zambian, How do you feel Zambians, why the panic again? Why would you quote the King on your unnecessary Constitution making process, We the Lozis never stoop so low, no brown envelope can ever buy our freedom… all the attendants have been bribed by the POST/PF Coalition governments. Those delegates are other tribes serving in various ministries in Barotseland. We had already declared independence from Zambia in March last year just why would we u-turn on our resolve.
Iam warning Zambia and Namakando’s Post to desist from framing the BRE so as to boost your sales. You should only do so after full-consultation with the Prime Minister of the Royal Barotseland and are sure you are reporting on the re-establishment of the Old Kingdom other than that its malicious…
The article ends by saying the convention has attracted many stakeholders from all districts of Western Province, if this is true then isnt the BRE becoming more irrelevant? The people they are supposed to represent in boycotting the meeting are at the same meeting
Ba LT retract your statement you made yesterday. Apologise for misleading the masses.
THE SO CALLED INDUNAS SHOULD NEVER BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY UNTIL WE ARE SURE ABOUT WHO IS SAYING THE TRUTH. THEY ARE LIKE A BUNCH OF ILLITERATES. THE LITUNGA SHOULD BRING ORDER TO HIS HOUSE. OTHERWISE PEOPLE WHO WILL NEVER TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY. THE SAME OLD STORY WHICH IS ONLY FIT FOR A MUSEUM KEEPS COMING UP IN DIFFERENT SHADES. EVEN THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SYMPATHETIC OF THE CAUSE HAVE NOW SEEN HOW THE WHOLE CAUSE HAS LOST DIRECTION AND OBJECTIVITY. ITS LIKE YOU ARE UNDOING YOURSELVES. THE REST OF US WILL BE WATCHING.
No one can exist alone. It is becoming so noisy so that it is difficult to get the truth.
