Lusaka Province Commissioner of Police, Joyce Kasosa has reiterated the police warning to UPND that it would not allow the opposition political party to go ahead with its rally in Kabwata on Sunday.

She assured that the police had not denied the UPND to hold its rally and reiterated that the party would be given a go ahead once it was safe to do so.

Ms Kasosa’s remarks come in the wake of UPND’s insistence through its deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa that the party would go ahead with its rally as planned as it had followed all the necessary requirements to enable it conduct the activity.

She said she had put it in writing to the UPND that it would not be ideal to hold the rally this Sunday because of recent chaotic happenings in Lusaka, adding that the Hakainde Hichilema-led party would be advised in due course when it would be conducive to do so.

“We haven’t allowed them (UPND) to go ahead with the rally on Sunday. I wrote to them to say it is not possible to hold the rally this Sunday because the prevailing conditions are not conducive and our position still stands,” she said.

She appealed to the UPND to adhere to that advice.

Ms Kasosa said the police’s objective was to maintain law and order as entangling itself in confrontations was unfortunate and unproductive.

“We, as police, are not interested in confrontation. We would rather dialogue. We are therefore appealing to the UPND to dialogue with us,” she said.

    • Most people who are not trained in security cannot see the looming show down between UPND & PF cadres should this rally go ahead. Hon. Given Lubinda MP for Kabwata has been accused of being in coholts with UPND, before the disciplinary process is concluded & tempers are still high in Kabwata, HH & Mweetwa insist they hold a rally. Really? Is this not only a way of one exposing oneself to emminent danger in the hope of eliciting sympathy later? UPND should chill, their desperation to have Hon. Given Lubinda MP for Kabwata defect to their party will land them in hot soup. Politics don’t always have to be acrimonious!

    • How many parties do we have in Zambia today? If all this parties were holding rallies at the rate some parties wish what time would be left for people to do other important life activities and events? In UK, USA, Germany etc political parties don’t hold rallies every so often unless in special circumstances and political events. It is indeed counter productive to have perpetual rallies with no break! Rallies make people less productive. In Zambia supporters just end up just having free time to linger about lazily, drinking beers, insults, belittling, telling biggest lies to capture attention, even fighting. All such are counter productive indeed. There must be a ‘season’ for everything!

  1. Tell us what we don’t know, what is unsafe about Lusaka? 20 years since multipartism came back today Lusaka is unsafe? what about the other parts of Zambia? be honest with yourself first, you know you are lying you twat, what chaotic happenings are you talking about, aren’t you referring to the arrests you clowns have been busy perpetrating?!! Get serious, we deserve to hear from him too, you cause the disorder then claim it’s unsafe? are you serious?

    • Its not Lusak but the behaviour of UPND thugs! If they can fight and stone the police at the police station the situation would be uncontrollable if they hold a rally!!UPND is a violent party that is why they even welcomed William Banda the chief thug!!

    • Come on guys, can you smell the crap you are dishing out? I am not a UPND supporter but I would like to hear what HH has to say, he must have a message for me a fellow citizen. An allegation came out recently saying that chap was actually a PF carder and not a proper police officer, can we see him in his uniform please..can you send a journalist to give us his account of the events of that day. Mind you, you say I am bitter but are you completely retarded? I live in Lusaka, what reason would UPND carders and sympathisers have to turn violent when they are there to listen to a man. If they were to be violent it would be going on every single day!! I am bitter because you want me to believe lies, insulting my intelligence. Just be fair and let the rally go on peacefully.

    • The police should be safe from the Up and down thugs that HH has hired as body guards under the command of William Tekere Banda. So stop urguing, you know what Ms Kasosa means. Why should she tell you when you know atase.

    • Freedom of Assembly is a fundamental right and it is not up to the police to grant that freedom. It is already granted by the Constitution of Zambia. That is why for the Police to abrogate that fundamental right there have to be very special and self evident circumstances such as a cholera outbreak or a national disaster. The fact that the police have been routinely abrogating the Constitution and depriving citizens of their right of Assembly and expression on false excuses is a very grave pointer to the weakness of the police service as an institutin to enforce the law. It is important to remind Ms Kasosa that if the police service can not respect the Constitution as supreme law, higher than the President, then no one will respect the law and the violence you fear will surely follow.

    • Don’t compare South Africa to Zambia we chipuba. Rallies are meant to communicate a party’s agenda with the people. South Africans just dance whenever Zuma dances and vote for him. There is no need for the ANC to hold rallies. They are very dumb voters. Having rallies so often by opposition parties will also keep incumbent govts in check, which makes them deliver and do the right things. Don’t even think SA is politically better than Zambia. We have all lived there.

    • Because you are still in scuffles with xenophobia. & why should one bother about a Zambian in zambia trying to exercise his God given constitutional rights

    • So you are now South African? These rallies are the Zambian way for politicians to connect to the masses, no one is forced to attended so what is the problem?

    • This is a different case that we are looking at. There has been no information flow from the pf apart from the usual propaganda on znbc, post etc. we need to hear the other side of the story and this is what they are denying us. Why no press conference up to now? As a voter I need to know which way my country is heading to.

    • And what is South Africa when us who live in the UK do see the Labour Party,Lib Dem and the Tories hv party conferences…equivalent of rallies? Dull pipo wth a sex maniac president.

    • @Kabimba, the opposition here is about spreading hatred. This ka opposition leader by default thought he could ascent to being president but alas he has been losing and becoming more and more unpopular hence resorting to hatred-spreading and beating police officers.

    • In South Africa no one stops anybody from assembling whenever they wish. What kind of nonsense are you trying to preach.

  2. Democracy has a lot of demands which PF cannot meet. It allows for freedom of expression. People to hold rallies and say anything about their leaders or deveopment. Let UPND hold its rallies please.

  3. It is not up to these cops to decided when UPND should hold rallies. That is a decision that UPND should make themselves. I wish UPND can be bold enough to go ahead with this rally in Kabwata. Let them prepare themselves to fight back with greater force. I take it that they will be more than the police who will come to disperse them. Let them fight back when I attacked. They should disarm the cops and use the weapons on the cops. Arrest the cops and let them appear in court on Monday since these are not state police but PF cadres. UPND show them that you are not cowards. Libongani and Jere are PF cadres who need to be treated as such.

  4. Oh I see…….. when it’s “safe to do so”.

I suppose we’ll all have “more money in our pockets” by then too?

  5. Kasosa fuseki. let UPND hold the rally. besides Ukwa is bolting to Ethiopia. This is the time for the zambians to take over…..

Ukwa is finished, he will only land in Zimbabwe after the uprising to be conforted by Bob Mugabe.

  6. HH AND UPND ARE CHOKING WITH ENVY!!! THEY HAVE SWALLOWED A BITTER PILL, AND A BITTER PILL CAN ONLY TASTE BITTER IF YOU SWALLOW IT!!!

ON THE OTHER HAND, WE ARE PROGRESSING IN NATION BUILDING

    ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION!!!!

    • You must be Ukwa’s agent! No salt in you thinking, what national building? Pf cadres very blind to reality & greedy. What choking & bitter about opposition?

    • UPND Cadres have been blinded by envy and bitterness, where they cant even see that the government is busy working

    • I do not see what UPND would be choking with bitterness for. What is there to choke for? Only an irresponsible party would be choking with envy for a party that has caused shortages of mealie meal and caused the same to be selling at prices beyond that which they poor can afford it. Only an irresponsible party would choke at the fact that PF have failed to distribute farming inputs to farms.

What UPND are fighting for is their right to assemble which is being denied them by the PF and their two cadre police chief (Libongani and Jere). UPND should fight back period should anyone try to disturb their rally.

  7. Police tell us, why did you refuse Upnd to hold a rally in Kanyama in Sept. 2012? Stop accusations against Upnd & just tell us Ukwa has instructed you.

  8. Let the UPND hold the Kabwata rally. When Sata lost to MMD he was allowed to hold rallies after the elections. Viva UPND. Abash political intimidation

  9. They will look weak if they decide to pull out in the last minute! This is a potential explosion, the police might also just want to prove a point and under instruction may bring lads to create disorder which ever way it’s not looking good, hightened tempers, bottled up emotions, this is bound to be one big bang!

  10. yaba it is good to be in power,fi upnd you are still dancing to our tune until 2060.when we will give power to chipimo.viva police cage them we don’t want stupid people who enjoy to drink people’s blood.

    • Power is sweet. We are enjoying baba. Its really good to be in the driving sit.these UPND Fools should wait for 2066

    • But isn’t that the same thing that was being said of Michael C Sata? I guess in your opinion, UPND would only be electable if it was headed by someone with a name like J Mwansa even if her/his IQ was lower than HH’s? Its sad that such thinking will continue to deprive Zambia of quality people from the Western or Southern province and yet statistically (normalized data) these provinces have by far an educated population higher than the Northern or Luapula province.

    • Katswiri, you are full of sh!t. Which statics are you refering to about Southern & Western province having higher literacy levels than other provinces of Zambia? The most literate province are along the line of rail and the rest of the country is more less the same with the same Western province having the worst literacy levels of 55%. Shaaa!

  11. Zambia Police advocating for violence instead of peace.. SHAME ON PF.. this has never happened in the history of ZAMBIA. Holding a rally is scaring PF,,what is Mr Right M;mbe has to say?

  12. IT’S NOT ABOUT HIS EXCELLENCIES SATA AND HH OR MUMBA.IT’S ABOUT US ZAMBIANS BEIG SERIOUS WITH OUR SO CALLED DEMOCRACY,FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION AND RIGHT TO LIFE.WE HAVE LIVED IN PEACE FOR OVER 45 YEARS WHY CAN’T WE TOLERATE EACH OTHERS VIEWS?LETS AGREE TO DISAGREE,WE ARE ALL ONE NATION UNDER GOD

    ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION!

    • Well spoken. Now most of the dull Zambians think it is about the leaders, change your mind set Zambians and don’t think with your tribe tags.

  13. just allow them and hold a rally as they are not popular.and tell them that next time they should go have their rallies in southern province .

    • Why do you hate the Southerns so much? For a start they are smarter than you, going by your sentiments. I guess you dont like it as you have met your match unlike other tribes who tolerate you under the guise of “chimbuya”

    • Katswiri & your southerness, if there is anything as dumb as that! Your myopic view of separating the southern province from the rest of Zambians in terms of intelligency will cost you dearly in the long run. It is people like you who scare others from voting for individuals from certain regions as most of would not want you to come and lord over us with your assumed intelligence! Debate the subject not the personalities, tribes and skin colour!

  14. And ba Officer Kasosa, you are so beautiful to me. Your expression of words in this article attracts me more! Keep on smiling because a lot out there admire your career and your loving heart. Keep on working hard for mother Zambia.

    Kind regards.

  15. AS WE ARE ORIGINAL ZAMBIANS ,,WE ARE TO ATTEND THE UPND RALLY..PLS COME ONE COME ALL,,THIS IS YOU COUNTRY FEEL FREE..SATA WAAAAWAAAAA

    • I have a feeling that may be state house will be there for HH in 2079. Not now! Otherwise, many of his supporters are just dreaming until they dream no more!

    • Keep on dreaming, why don’t you people see that you are losers and will NEVER rule FATHER Zambia? You can’t see what most of us see? Constul the one you insult, he will tell you how to strategise. Zoona Tongas are dull except for cow-herding and sleeping with the cows.

  16. fellow zambians this country is for sata and pf,,its for us all,,h.h and upnd gooooo,,we are for you here in kabwata and zambia at large

  17. sweetheart,,lets go and attend the upnd rally there in kabwata with love and peace,,h.h is just a good man,,and he will be a republican president one day

    • How can you say that southerners a smarter .can a smart person vote a useless person like HH who will never rule this country whether you like it or not

  18. yaba!wats happening with this womans eyes hehehehe her and kabimba have the same crazy eyes -one eye in bengeula and one eye in beira!..but seriously do these bujuz think sata will teka forever?hmmm one day -one will cry…

  19. Things don’t seem to be going as per plan for our ruling party, it certainly is true that “it’s easier said than done”; so being in opposition for a long time and now governing in a multi-party environment with diverse views, maybe uncomfortable and at times irritating for some PF ‘politically-sensitive’ (don’t-need-your-opinion mentality) characters.

Kabwata is currently a ‘hot issue’ for both the ruling regime and the opposition. Hon Given seemed to have done his homework (don’t resign but rather wait or dare them to fire me). Ba Given is well beloved in UPND and it’s no brainer that he will be received back gladly, if he so wished.

So this Sunday’s rally might potentially expose the oppositions’ potential strength (in numbers) and therefore the PF’s weakening urban…

  20. With our hyper Zambian Police – I can see bloodshed tomorrow. If they can RUTHLESSLY club and kick an ALLEGED handcuffed criminal laying helplessly on the ground (latest Livingstone incident as televised on MUVI TV), what will hold them back to fire LIVE ammunition tomorrow? Are we going to witness a replica of the Marikana Mine shooting tomorrow? I cringe at this thought. Time and time again when I watch the police mouthpiece speak I ask myself, what is it that PF is scared of for denying the opposition hold PEACEFUL rallies? Did it take over a year for PF to hold a rally when they were in OPPSITION? Why have the tables turned now? Why why why??? Scared of your own lies Michael? Scared that the opposition will incite the people who you lied to? I had belief in you Sata – man of…

  21. We wait to see the thugs in UPND square it with the police. We will be watching guys. Go go UPND thugs, go go Zambia police recruits. Knowing how vengeful the Zambia police recruits are, I can foresee a bruised UPND on sunday.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  22. HH for life. Ba nyanya ba kachepa. Abash Makuluku. SataN alipwaa. We are moving on to fire/retire colonial messengers. Retirement package will be court cases ………..

  23. baza kumenya imwe baTonga! worse than you beat your cattle. Don’t u see that Sata has even left the country? you assaulted & haragooned them at the police station. you think they were happy. by the way what message wl HH bring. my foot! dare the police at yo own peril!

  24. Democracy is about freedom of expression. If we had elections tomorrow who would you vote for? press the up arrow vote button for UPND or the down arrow vote button for PF.
