Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba says he is a happy man after the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) found no case of corruption against him.

The ACC instituted corruption investigations late last year against Mr Mwamba, who is commonly known as GBM, and his Justice counterpart Wynter Kabimba.

Mr Mwamba said in an interview that he and his family have grown up as business people and claims suggesting that he had solicited business from ZESCO were nonsense.

He said yesterday that he has been quite during the ACC corruption investigations against him because he knew he had nothing to hide about his business activities.

“I have been quite throughout the corruption investigations against me and I am very happy that my name has been cleared by the law enforcement agent,” he said.

Mr Mwamba said some Zambians who know him well from far could easily testify that he has long been a successful and genuine businessman throughout his life.

“People who know me well will tell you that I have been a faithful honest servant. The findings from ACC are a right step and I expected that outcome because I have nothing to hide about my business engagements,” he said.

He said when the press approached him for a response on accusations that he was engaged in corrupt business activities, he had responded that the whole scheme to accuse him of corruption was mere nonsense.

The ACC investigated Mr Mwamba on corruption allegations that he had solicited for a contract to supply and deliver ZESCO wooden poles on a one year contract.

“When the press approached me to react about corruption allegations, I responded that there allegations were nonsense because I knew very well that I have never been corrupt in my life. I never solicited business from ZESCO,” he said.

He said Zambians would have become even more suspicious about his business activities if he had acquired his wealth after being appointed Cabinet minister in the PF administration.

He said it was the first time he had been involved in politics as a Cabinet minister and was not worried about perceptions of some people about his business engagements because he it was public that he was innocent.

He said he has always been a businessman and that he comes from a corruption-free family business background, adding that it was regrettable and unfortunate to be accused of wrong-doing.

    • GBM has not acquired his wealth like Hakaivotela Humwine from kick backs from sale of our companies. Hakaivotela Humwine even went further to sell former Lima Bank Mansion to himself and to-date this is the house he lives in. Shame….!!!

    • Just imagine that even our own dear Michael Sata’s house on Omelo Mumba road belonged to the liquidated Zambia Airways. How can a then sitting Minister profit from his own decision to liquidate Zambia Airways?. GBM was in ‘business’ with the famous Mwensos. This is the same ‘business’ the likes of Vernon Mwaanga and Sikota Wina were engaged in. So I would be very careful of attributing some people’s so called success to ‘sweat’.

    • You were accused by your friend and you have been cleared by yourself. This is the best you guys can do? I suggest you budget enough to upgrade the prisons because very soon those will be your homes.
      You can see how you are panicing just on two by-elections; what will happen when the whole country will be up in arms against you? You will have nowhere to run to because at that time even your uncle Bob will be out of Zimbabwe.

    • Its okey for GBM to celebrate if he’s found to have no case to answer. But having no case to answer and growing up in a business family are not related, and he must not confuse the two. I think it’s this sort of mentality that gives him a sense of entitlement over state resources. And remember he is on record as having said that accessing state resources through tenders is the only reason he joined politics!

    • Don’t wait for my comment, am allergic to Kabimba. GBM is cleaner now after I stopped dealing in controlled substances. GBM is cool, he can even be President.

    • I urge GBM to keep quiet after this speech of self congratulations.There are many grey areas where investigations bordering on inflated deliveries of mealie meal to defense forces in particular Zambia Army and Police could reveal problems for GBM.It is good that PF has discontinued the giving of mealie meal to our men and women in uniform.

He was their ‘chola boy’ who also became rich and married their sister and literally started throwing about his weight, including in politics (publicly confessed by himself that he is not a polititian). Where do you go from there Aubrey??

      Buying businesses which are going under and turning them round is a much more discent thing and good business than distroying lives with drugs. Lawyers are buying businesses, which they get to know about through their work, everyday. No offence committed Bwana Aubrey.

    • @Chisenga, so you are only in support of Sata’s TRIVIALITIES? Chipimo should first win a Ward election in his Mporokoso home area before he can be regarded as Presidential material! The boy hasnt won any election be at ward or parliamentary level and the same people who are avoiding his NAREP arent expected to turn around and give him the Presidency.

    • Lol! I have scratched some nerves. Your NAREP has been taking part in bye elections since the general elections in 2011. Narep is failing to get 100 votes in either Parliamentary or Ward elections. The next govt will either be UPND or MMD. Narep has no chance. Chipimo should try in 2026!

  7. Pipo are so gullible. This what has only been cleared in words. the president ordered ACC to stop the investigation, & at no time was the permision granted not even secretly. ACC stopped their investigations and these profound fools want us to believe that these guys have been cleared. It does not matter how long it takes, you deeds will catch with him. This is a lesson we have seen many times over & every time those that are doing it thing the are clever than their predecessors. When pipo were complaining about Banda & his children, they thot they would do it differently from chiluba & get away with it. As long as these guys do not die in office, there will be a day of reckoning, and for some it may be sooner than they think. All its takes is to lose favour with Sata & ACC will back

    Looking at your prescribed uninterrupted quietness, one cannot wonder any further because it is a normal paradigm for the likes of you to mask your guiltiness with excuses and counter allegations.
    It is very easy for you to make yourself comfortable with ignorance in that you do not want to face truth. Note that truth is not an option for someone who does not want to liberate himself/herself from ignorance. Engage this premature celebration critically at lenghty and weigh what the other side of the continuum holds for you.
    Recall that you have not been acquitted and corruption charges can still be brought against you in the future.
    It is a normal paradigm of law.

The Police run by women is in turmoil,the ACC run by a woman has been turned into hunting dog against the owners’s perceived enemies.Without Sata there was noway GBM and Winter would have been cleared.It’s pity that Ukwa has no respect for our hon retired Judge who can hardly hold a paper in his hands becos of advanced age to announce false outcome of investigation which never took place.Where was GBM and Winter interogated,Winter went on insulted and assaulted the integrity of ACC and it’s presidential appointee.

  13. GBM can boast of being cleared from corruption charges levelled against him by Wynter Kabimba. People are laughing! The battles within the PF structures are not yet over. As soon as Kabimba gets rid of Given Lubinda after the Livingstone bye-elections, Kabimba under the directives of HE President Fred Mmembe, is bound to invent other schemes to get rid of GBM, Kambwili and another appendage called Sakeni. Lameck Mangani, Lucas Phiri and Lubinda have just been set aside in the deep freezer until the ripe moment materialises after the Mpongwe and Livingstone elections. For now GBM is being treated as a USEFUL CHIPUBA for having funded the PF 2011 General elections.

HH as a zambian businessman running company in accounting services applied to liquidate ailing parastatals and qualified to do the job. He made money and was able to buy that which was duly classified as due for sale. So like anybody else ie GBM bought indeco milling in kasama and uprooted the equipment to set up shop in lsk to maximise on economics of scale ie geopostion of kasama to markets. So HH made his wealth and kept all in Zambia employing many nationals. So don’t support stuff you don’t ve back up. Wat Sata did was insane coming from a head of state shooting down success?     ‘Thinking’ is a present continous tense. A PhD candidate does not write reputations in his/her long theses. There is no need to write present in your sentence because if you are thinking then, the act of thinking is happening presently and continously. Notice that the added ‘ing’ at the end of ‘think’ indicates that the act is continous.
    Please, make yourself conversant with the various interpretations of ‘sporadic’ and recall that ‘sporadically’ is a derivative of ‘sporadic’. You have misplaced this word in your construction. Stop inserting words/terms unnecessarily as this measures the depth of your denials i.e. truth and yourself are incompatible.

  24. Well, so many people confuse the issue of Grant Thorntorn as receivers of some companies during HH’s reign as MD. I think there are three companies that are of high profile to many-RAMCOZ, LIMA BANK and Meridian Bank. Always as a RECEIVER.

    MMD privatised nearly 1 000 companies with Chipimo’s company as advisors to the privatisation committees. The corruption started from state house up to councils in sharing state assets. In short the last two decades in Zambia have been terrible.

    Is it fair or moral to focus on one man whereas the people who played and preyed laugh about it?

      Uncle Sata, recently lied to some docile citizens of Livingstone. For instance, he personally persuaded them to vote for another crook/scavenger known as Mr.Evans and, in return he, Sata would bring development to Livingstone. Towards the end of his speech, Sata went against what he pledged them earlier on. Further, he lamented that he did not promise them anything.
      It is either Sata does not understand the severity of his speech or does not fully comprehend the precise meaning of ‘promise’ in the context of meeting the other end of bargains with the voters. Either way, Sata is playing with people’s trust and his own survival tactics.
