BOSTON UNIVERSITY INVITES PRESIDENT BANDA TO AFRICAN PRESIDENTIAL ROUNDTABLE IN JOHANNESBURG
LUSAKA, 27thMay, 2013— His Excellency Rupiah Bwezani Banda, the Fourth President of the Republic of Zambia, has been invited by the Boston University (BU) African Presidential Centre to make a presentation at the 2013 African Presidential Roundtable to be held in Johannesburg South Africa.
The former Zambian President’s presentation is expected to touch on what Western countries can do to provide assistance in facilitating the electoral process in Africa and what the current generation of leaders need to do to further stability and democracy on the continent and, more specifically, in their own countries.
The 2013 African Presidential Roundtable will be centred on what needs to be achieved for Africans to gain greater involvement in the electoral process in their respective countries.
President Banda has since written to His Excellency Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, the President of the Republic of Zambia, informing him about the South African assignment which will run from 5th to 8th June, 2013 under the theme “The Cost of Democracy”.
Similarly, Cabinet Office, through the Secretary to the Cabinet, has been informed about the invitation.
In inviting President Banda to the 10th African Presidential Roundtable slated for Constitution Hill in the Winnie Mandela Courtyard, BU African Presidential Centre director Charles Stith said the former Zambian head of State’s election monitoring experience would be crucial to the event.
“Given this year’s focus – The Cost of Democracy – and your experience of monitoring elections across the continent, I felt the insights you could provide would be invaluable,” wrote Ambassador Stith in the invitation letter to the retired Zambian politician.
Last year, President Banda spent nearly three months at Boston University in the United States of America as President-in-Residence, lecturing at the institution and other associate universities both within and outside the country.
President Banda was last Friday due to have left for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the invitation of the African Union to attend the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the continental body’s forerunner, the Organisation of African Unity.
But, at the eleventh hour, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which had earlier informed this office about the invitation and asked for his passport to facilitate the purchasing of the air ticket, said it was not possible to make last-minute preparations for the trip.

CONGRATS RB
atleast RB doesn’t get booooooo’d
On the Positive, RB atleast wont talk about bold heads & potato-cuts & make others look down in shame. Anyway, he knows how to be diplomatic
Inviting a thief!! He is not going anywhere until we are through with him.
All the best Presido! At least you have been to school. But bambi ba SATANA are booed and AU summit.
Mweol. Do you really what to have the same passport as a Nigerian or Ethiopian? Especially after what happened last week in Woolwich.
@Tropicana, I don’t think the number of people who boooed him we’re insane. Something about what he said or the way he said it that pissed off people. There is a diplomatic way of saying things in a mature debatable way that doesn’t spark outrage. You don’t hear Zuma of S.A being booed. Shame
Viva la bam. Well I hear Obama, Cameron, Merkel and others being booed. Does that mean they do not say things in diplomatic way and those that express displeasure towards what they believe are insane? Zuma needs to grow a pair and stand up against what is wrong bwana.
@Tropicana. Im not saying that Sata was wrong on that one. He may have been right, yes. BUT no one will tell who the fool is when people are booing sata & sata is reacting in his funny ways. You do not see the obamas reacting to negativity. shows one is totally in control & we can clearly spot the fools
hmmm, dont know why stars are appearing. it should be “we wont know who the f.o.o.l is”
WAY TO GO RB….PIPO STILL HONOUR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RB has a lot to share about democracy. He respects democracy in a way few other African politicians do.
yes…yes…we all know how it ends….silly PF/Kabimba/Mmembe start putting spanners in the works & look for an excuse so he doesn’t go. their hearts must be burning with envy as this aint the 1st time. They play same old game like a scratched CD
Congrats RB.
Do not allow him to travel! If he disappears we will hold the PF responsible. This meeting will not add any value to our nation.
Shame. so baseless. You are still one of the small minded left over people who were brainwashed by the po-st news paper on RB issues. anyway, we just have to accept that there shall always be such in the nation until the end of time
Run to where and for what ? your fake gold deals accusation ? your fake oil deal allegations ? You think Zambians are stupid and can be swayed from what is really going on within ? you are on your own ! Time is ticking !
@ Tropicana unless you have evidence of misappropriation of funds by the former head of state, your accusations of RB is baseless, also am not quite sure why you would choose to believe something that hasn’t been proven and yet your current president “the villain” for that matter is tearing the country apart with his diabolical way of governance what a shame!!
Hero worshiping even thieves atase bane ifabupupa
If you call this hero-worshiping, you are just as bad/even worse. Since you are an extremist with a heavy bleeding heart of hatered (madness with no cause) of the likes of Kabimba, Mmembe & other thugs. I feel for you
A thief with no conviction ? we know that others have convictions on their CV ,prove first and foremost that the man stole.
Mongrel !
You are just tiny minded bootlickers and blind followers, icisapato nefiko mulemyanga atase
RB challenged his immunity removal using the law to which he was entitled to pursue. he was on firm ground to go through the legal process.
RB cannot run away….. If he had wanted, he can simply go to his farm in Chipata and disappear from there. ZAF and Army have no capacity to monitor small planes and choppers within Zambia.
he can simply melt away…
But he knows the cases are like wax melting away on the very palms of his accusers.
he will soon be a free man. PF were scared of him and his ability to mobilize resources for MMD. kabili ba BUFI and BUfI-Lied into State House. Sata true is a Satanic Verses.
Eish! this gonna hurt some hate newspaper!
Thats good. All the best bashi Mpundu.
interesting………….
Why are you moderating my posts which are insult free and a true reflection of what I think on such issues?
Because you are the type that believes in donchi kubeba ,you don’t appreciate sane and coherent leadership.
That is why sometimes this site doesn’t rock
@Main Market. you are surely one funny character. lol!
Jack the dull boy and Masala Market. All I said was there are other cases including issues relating to Samsung that are still pending. What’s wrong with that? Are you beneficiaries of RB/MMD’s mismanagement and misrule?
@Tropicana. when people have been beneficiaries from crime and corruption anything one says falls on deaf ears. i.e 11.1 to 11.3. Don’t waste your time responding to them.
@ Njekwa. You have nothing sensible to add on to a simple debate. no facts. just hallucinations of hatred. You are better off silent so you do not expose your massive ignorance.
@Tropical pati-pati. If RB runs away, then it shall prove he is guilty. Why not give everyone even RB enough rope to hang themselves? holding one captive (even a wild animal) just creates pity in the eyes of many. why not give everyone a chance as God does for all of us? For If RB is truly Guilty, God says- revenge shall be mine.thanks.
RB IS NO LONGER A FACTOR IN ZAMBIA. THE MAN IS NOW FINISHED. WE KNOW HOW HE PLUNDERED THE WEALTH OF THIS COUNTRY. HIS LAWYERS WILL TRY BY ALL MEANS TO TECHNICALLY PREVENT A CONVICTION. HE MAY EVEN WIN LEGALLY, BUT WILL MORALLY REMAIN A THIEF WHO WINS HIS WAY BY MANIPULATING THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM.
AS FOR THE INVITATION, THE MAN MUST BE ALLOWED TO GO. ALL FORMER LEADERS OF THE DARK CONTINENT ARE INVITED TO SUCH GATHERINGS TO BE USED TO DESUADE OTHER DICTATORS FROM CLINGING ON TO POWER. IT IS ALSO GOOD FOR HIS HEALING.
@CHISENGA, THAT IS NOT VERY INTELLIGENT.
IF YOU SAY R.B IS FINISHED, THEN WHY DON’T YOU JUST LET HIM BE? WHY ARE YOU WRITING ABOUT HIM IF HE IS FINISHED?
YOU ARE THE ONES BRINGING HIM BACK INTO THE LIGHT. MAKING HIM LOOK GOOD, LIKE HE IS BEING PERSECUTED. WISDOM WOULD TELL YOU TO LET IT GO
Good luck with Mutembo and Mmembes’s tricks which will soon run out baba awisi Mpundu.
Good for Zambia that RB is invited to RSA as it will help neutralize the negative effects of Guy Scott’s comments about RSA recently. No Country can survive as an Island, we need other Countries and they need us, especially in sub-sahara Africa. That is what ubuntu means.
But BU also, how do you invite a criminal?
Sour grapes
If you want to know how a crocodile cries, ask a hippo. So ask me about this man BU keeps on inviting. Anyway, we will wait for DPP.
…sour grapes…
Have you gotten permission to travel ,from Mmebee?
Isn’t RB ‘flight risk’?
Mmm, I can smell someone’s BP rising! No spanners lol, allow him to bring us some pride especially after the humiliation we experienced recently .
from the above comments ,ifi ma Zambians ubupuba. everything is politics, criminals are glorified on tribal and political lines.
speak for yourself. you are one of them. easy to spot a spek in ones eye than to see a log in yours
That how a president look like…. not some villager from Mpika
Knowing RB, he is already packing for this trip, old man gets so excited with any trip outside the country, you would think it is his first. Until he will beb told at the Airport that you have no clearance, Lusaka Times, ZWD or Zambian Watchdog are not authorities to release passports, lol!!!!
One is inclined to conclude ‘engineer’ hails from no village!
It is wrong for any institution to invite any people facing criminal charges in the courts to attend any meetings outside the country. Foreigners should start to respect our sovereignty and respect our courts, just because they are Americans it does not mean that they don’t know that RB is facing corruption charges.
RB should not be allowed to leave the country, South Africa is a hiding place for continent plunderers. Once RB enters SA he will just join his son and never return to Zambia.
MMD supporters are pathetic, Chiluba plundered the country of £45 million and he was found guilty in the UK courts but you still glorified the thief. RB and his son stole with impunity! No bank in the world can give a primary school teacher earning $200/month a loan of $1 million, it stinks!
It is unfortunate how Zambians change like Chameleons. Just yesterday, they faced the misery of RB stealing and today they are in the forefront to defend a thief. His son Andrew has admitted for asking kick backs and he has the guts to say that there is nothing wrong for him asking kickbacks as it was done in his private capacity. Is Andrew Banda telling us that MCS can knock off from his office and negotiate a deal and call it a private matter. That is how rotten the whole system was under RB rule. So in conclusion, please dont allow this man to go out of Zambia until he is free of investigation. Boston University if they find it fit to have RB attending their meetings, let them come to Zambia period.
If you have a good business plan banks will give you the money you request. If you do not have the intelligence to put together a good business plan do not assume that everyone is as intellectually challenged as you are.
The Engineer,
Have you ever heard of BOTOX? Why do think RB engaged those white foreigners for image building? RB’s face was a wrinkled mess before Mwanawasa died, he was given botox injections to lift his face and they called it image building!.
Check the photos of RB before 2008 for yourself and compare with the above picture.
Elders should accept aging and accept anything which comes with it and carry it with dignity not disguise or hide it.
Africa and the world needs manly- men like Sata, Mugabe,Kagame former president Lula, men who call a spade by it’s name, not spineless, moribund leaders like Zuma, Mswati, RB, etc, known only for marrying many wives, and such-like, as well as engaging in naked opulence.
