MMD MP David Phiri resigns to join PF

MKAIKA MMD member of Parliament (MP) David Phiri has resigned from the former ruling party to join the Patriotic Front (PF).

Mr Phiri, who announced his defection to the PF in an interview in from Katete yesterday, said he has decided to join the ruling party because the MMD is dead.

He said no matter how good a person is, it is impossible to score in a losing team.

Mr Phiri said he wants to work with the PF government because it has shown commitment in as far as the development of the country is concerned.

“I have consulted the people of Mkaika and they have advised me to work with the ruling party so that we can develop the area.

“I have been accused of denouncing the MMD because I accepted to work with the government, but what I can say now is that development can only take place in Mkaika when I work with the government,” he said.

He said if given chance to re-contest the seat under the ruling party, he will work hard to ensure the PF wins the parliamentary by-election.

Mr Phiri said the continuous defections by MPs from the opposition are not being engineered by the PF government but by some opposition leaders who are not willing to supplement Government’s efforts to improve living standards in the country.

He said the defections are as a result of poor leadership in the opposition and good leadership by the party in Government.

Mr Phiri said people should not be deceived by the MMD leadership whose main aim is to frustrate Government’s efforts by spreading lies to Zambians.

  5. I cant wait for the new constitution, coz i believe it burns defecting MPs to re-contest their sits…I feel for this poor country worse still those who claim to support these defections blindly.

  11. Then some people are blaming the PF for those defections when it is clearly seen that they have no hope for the once vibrant MMD. Indeed thing fall apart, only the die hard people like Dora will remain in the MMD until it cannot function anymore. But are these MPs joining PF only, they should try joining UPND and make it a force to make a formidable opposition!

  12. I don’t know were we are heading now. so many schools without desks, teachers etc, hospitals without medicine and yet again another by elections, a lot of money going to waste. I think in the new constitution please do something to present this kind of nonsense from happening, ts much now.

  15. These guys(honourable MPs) who are resigning or from MMD & UPND are doing so on principle.If phiri wanted to be adopted as candidate in the looming bye elections and heard of Taima and Musonda’s predicament he wouldnt have resigned and join PF.

    He who associates with an embecile is an embecile too. no wonder he has left the party ..I follow him too.
