The Planned Parenthood Association of Zambia says it is worrying that Medical Stores is planning to dispose of over 800,000 condoms due to lack of demand.
PPAZ Executive Director Efford Mutuma said Medical Stores should improve its distribution mechanisms to avoid such consignments from going to waste.
Mr. Mutuma said organisations such as PPAZ are willing to help Medical Stores distribute the commodities to every corner of the country.
“What we see is a failure by Medical Stores to distribute the condoms to every part of Zambia and that is where partners such as PPAZ come in. Let them give us the condoms and we will distribute,” Mr Mutuma said.
He revealed that reports of condoms going to waste are disheartening especially that Zambia has a deficit in the supply of condoms.
“Zambia has a shortage of condoms, our statistics show that there are five condoms per person in Zambia per year, meaning all Zambians that need condoms can only get five per year. We need to improve access this very important commodity,” Mr Mutuma said.
Mr. Mutuma cited places such as Kabompo and Kasempa as areas where there is a critical shortage of the condoms.
“We need to get these condoms to all these areas,” he said.
Recently, Medical Stores Executive Director Anne Zulu told Journalists that over 800,000 condoms will soon be disposed of as they are about to expire due to low demand.
Mwamona, first they said pipo are not using condoms, now PPAZ clears the air that its poor distribution.
MS doesnt just know how to do business. They should not blame zambians for not using condoms as lack of sex drive in Zambia.
Medical Store is a PF’s government institution. More to the list of Pathetic Failing.
Ask Masebo if there is any stand of FREE condom distribution point at UNWTO in Livingstone… Nothing!!
There are supposed to be a basket in each hotel/ lodge corridors in Livingstone, imagine how many nights and sex-rounds will be in Livingstone this week, more than those 8000 condoms.
Dont force a horse to drink water…MAY BE PIPO ARE USING METHOD “A’ OF SEXUAL ABITS AND THEY NO LONGER NEED THEM… ABSTENANCE ILICHEEEE..
Lack of libido characterises zambia. No wonder we few we need to atleast 40 million so that we provide a ready market for our produce

They were trying to figure out a way to sell the condoms instead of distributing them. Greedy i.di.ots!
Another reason to sack that useless director at Medical Store Ann Zulu…she ran to the press instead of exposing all her options!!
*………of exhausting all her options.
Imwe ba Medical Stores, instead of disposing those 800,000 condoms, bring them panganda Yandi so that intwe ifibaiche.
How many New HIV and STI cases would have been averted if Medical Stores had done its job well? If we can know the answer to this question, we can take Medical stores to task for negligence!
HI if this story is true about destroying of those condoms, let us plan how we shall avoid this in the future. We shall engage the authorities in strategy planning over this.
See my Comments on 23rd Aug ” MOH must work with the Districts to know the number of Condoms each Organisations needs per month and make a thorough plan for 2 Quarters supply to each Provincial Headquarters.
the PACA, DACA and DAFT must then organize how the Organisations will get the condoms and do the reporting.
The major problem to be solved is Transportation and consistency supply.
please let us discuss on this issue so that we do not waste so much money next time.
I was in one Country at one time where when we needed condoms the supply was always not enough and difficult to get. at some point I went to check with the responsible person at the provincial medical Hospital of that country as my office was based they. I found some condoms boxes been eaten by the termites. I was very shocked and Immediately I took action to involve the Director of Health of the matter as he was he knew what our program was doing based at the Hospital. So I feel sad when I hear there is shortages of Condoms.
let us discuss on how we can improve on the chain of distribution from Central stores to the Distributors and until we supply enough to the people that need to use them.
We are very much available for discussions and helping to solve such issues well .
Thanks.
Some of these issues just need brainstorming and critical thinking…I’m worried also as to the generation will are bringing up as these two issues should be encouraged from primary school level right through university and college.
I Knew it, their statement didnt make sense with that round figure….. nonsense, in Zambia were people eat, drink, dream and live sex to ignore or forget condomising? Someone was playing cards, they wanted to fix a price so they could reap where they never sown. Mwashininkisha ba kolwe someone got their earlier than you!
Condoms in the pics look SMALL!
Are you Kongolee?
this is were the problem is in our country we dont want to share things and the channel to access cetain things is just too complicated. they medical stores are even proudly saying 800,000 condoms to expire instead of inviting organisation dealing in health matters to go and collect these condoms. in rural areas there a lot of health facility without condoms. shame indeed to medical stores. find plan B
