The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has backtracked from its earlier position of not complying with the regulation under Public Order Act to hold public political gatherings.
In August this year the UPND had resolved not to notify the Police in future whenever it intends to hold public protests in the country not until police reviews how it implements the Public Order Act.
UPND Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba has disclosed to Qfm in an interview that his party is now convinced that from the recent happenings in the country, the police has demonstrated that it is no longer restrained from manning public protests and assemblies.
Mr. Simusamba has also disclosed that to this effect his party has decided to write a letter to notify the police on its intentions to have a meeting and a demonstration against the Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda.
Why
The reason is that the police has shown evidence of capability to monitor any peaceful demonstration. If PF cadres can be authorized to demonstrate against a senior Government official, why should UPND be denied a similar opportunity. The police are there to protect all citizens regardless of political affiliation.

@ganja farmer,if Sata has to do that it will be a welcome move to appease those who feel unrepresented and promote national unit. But if he will do this to Cabinet where is he going to get the MPs from to achieve this objective if he does not appoint from the opposition? Will the opposition accept? PFs MPs are mostly from Bemba speaking regions so it has to be a hard bargain and it may hurt more the bickering Ministers as he may drop all of them and get some from the opposition to fight the tribal tag which has now been magnified internally in PF. He may even write to main opposition parties MMD and UPND to nominate PMs that he may appoint to cabinet. He mar revoke certain nominations which could spell doom for non elected Ministers! He will ve silencd the tribal war & get peace 4 himself!

The solution lies in changing our constitution to one where Ministers are employed from outside Parliament. That way, the appointing authority, the Head of State, would not be forced to only look at elected Members of Parliament for ministerial positions. Look, you do not have to be an MP to function as a Minister. What you need is to meet specified qualifications to hold the job of a Minister. Parliament should be allowed to hold Ministers accountable unlike now where this role is compromised by the fact that the same MPs are expected to hold themselves accountable. Come on Zambians, let us demand for appointment of Ministers from outside Parliament. The President would have more people (qualified Zambians) to choose Ministers to choose from than now where he can only look at 158 MPs.

All this he so called developmental projects you have mentioned are brain child of mmd govt and pf. PF when in opposition used to tell RB not to boost about the same because they mwanawasa projects.
Building universities and health posts is a welcome but makes little or no nonsense when existing universities not have basic requirements needed to function properly.
