National Restoration party president Elias Chipimo Junior has said that President Michael Sata’s concerns over the issuance of nationwide broadcasting licenses to private radio stations amount to denying citizens access to information.
Mr. Chipimo has told Qfm News that the decision by government comes at a time of great uncertainty within the country.
Mr. Chipimo explained that it is unfortunate that government is now failing to fulfil its promises to allow the majority Zambians have access to information by blocking radio stations from disseminating information to the people especially in rural areas.
He said that government is failing to address the basic issues which are confronting the people of Zambia.

The NAREP leader stresses that denying the people access to critical information provided by the two radio stations will take the country backwards in achieving pure democracy.
Government had through the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) granted QFM, Radio Phoenix and Christian Voice nationwide coverage.
And People’s party president Mike Mulongoti says it is unfortunate that president Sata is insensitive to allowing the media to operate independently.
Mr. Mulongoti has since expressed shock that president Sata feels that once the privately owned radio stations are allowed to broadcast nationwide that might negatively dent the integrity of the country.
Earlier today, the President castigated Mr Mwamba for not consulting him on the issuance of nationwide radio licence to Radio Phoenix, QFM and Muvi TV was given a nationwide television licence.
“And you Mr Mwamba do you know why…stand up.…do you know why the previous administration did not give national wide coverage to all other people apart from ZNBC, do you know why?
“You are very intelligent; you thought all of us are very stupid, you thought all the people who died before independence are stupid. You come to the ministry and start giving coverage to all so that HH can now speak on Phoenix, can you tell me the justification,” he said.
[pullquote] ” You come to the ministry and start giving coverage to all so that HH can now speak on Phoenix, can you tell me the justification,” he said.[/pullquote]
The President said the reason why Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and missionaries were left with the nationwide licences was to protect the integrity of the nation.
“The opposition sits at Radio Phoenix and you know that very well, you are much aware that persons with shares are not Zambians but you go ahead to approve, did you consult.
“Did you come to see me about it, don’t use my ministry to fight your own political battles, go outside stand on the platform and we can meet you there on the platform, don’t use my Government,” he said.
FAKA PRESSURE HH.
Cant stand Chipimo I really don’t like the man for no reason at all.
Does anyone know what I dislike him so much?
Thanks
Mushota, my mistress! how do you do? did you survive the storm? or are blogging from underground?
#The fist for president!
@mushota
I think I know why my dear mushota. the man is an 1diot, he sold his integrity when he agreed to chew taxpayer’s money with sata in brazil
@Mushota, the problem is not with Elias but with MCS who seems to be suffering from a crisis of ideology. Now he wants to emulate UNIP and MMD in stifling free speech.
Sata is very very and i mean very afraid of HH. The truth is HH is not the issue here, it is all about press freedom. Well done Mwamba but you have ICHIPUBA CHI PRESDO…MCS.
Dissemination of information is vital for the nation.
and this denying citizens access to credible information and news is what makes blogs like Zambian watchdog, Zambian eye and Zambia reports even more popular!!! this is not 19something,,, now people even villagers have mobile phones and internet!! information free flowing
To be free means to be able to share information and ideas without let or hindrance. Where freedom of expression is denied, a people are NOT independent like was the case in apartheid South Africa and is the case in North Korea. Ba Sata is a dictator like mushumfwa (KK). Sata’s mentor is KK and Mugabe. And that sends me in which direction to face in the ballot booth. Give us media freedom, abash suppression of freedom of speech! On this one, I ask Bwinjumfumu to side with the people. I ask MMD and UPND to rise up and defend freedom of expression. I am watching!
Ndeloleshafye !!!!!
@Saulosi, just admit you are disappointed. We won’t hold it against you.
lelo ba Saulosi no mau. This is your 1d1ot you support everyday. today he has disappointed you… more to come….hahahaha
Sata is feeling the pressure! he does not want HH to get his views through to the Zambian people! kikikiki! go hard on him HH! GO HARD! Let his dictator mentality eat him alive while you watch and laugh!

Ba Chipimo limbani baba. you are the only one to redeem this country. Keep up the good fight and please stay away from the Cobra. While they fight with HH, you must touch the grassroots.
2016 Kuya bebele. This man lacks any panache. It is called the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA). The clue is in the name! Why should they ask for government’s permission? How can one invest in ICT with these ignorant people in power? With due respect to freedom fighters, get off our backs. Most people who fought for independence died without ever getting any free handouts from the government and yet ba Sata and a few loud mouths go around behaving as though they were the only ones who fought. We want a forward looking Zambia. Not one that is rooted in the past.
PF uku nomba ekupwa. even Chipimo is thinking more intelligent than the all president, Hope Sata will not turn to Chipimo with attacks of the young future president. VIVA Ba Chipimo.
‘the all president’. kikikiki you wrote it just as you sound….hahahaha
LMAO! Ba president please!
since you are in opposition you cant see the reason behind that, lets answer his question first, why didn’t the previous government didn’t give countrywide to these radio and TV stations?
This was to ensure that if a station was entered by hostile elements (eg coup plotters or war) the effect of any announcement would be very localised. On the other hand if a private Radio or TV station had national wide coverage then any broadcast would have nationwide effect. Therefore government would be compelled to provide security (visible and covert) at every such station equivalent to that which is deployed at ZNBC. This is the challenge every government has been afraid of.
i meant licenses
Tell en Chipimo, 49 yrs of independence but national mentality doesn’t reflect that in out leader. What sin have we committed to God please…. dead leadership = wasted generation.
What was there to celebrate on 24 October if the man at the helm of government denies people basic and fundamental human rights including freedom of association (public order act) and expression (revocation of national broadcasting licences)? Did HH know something when he shunned the deceptive celebrations? When you dine with the crocodile, you will be dinner at the end!! Nevers Mumba (+ Dora mafiga), what is your position on this violation of Freedom of Expression?
Haleisa, Haleisa! Nightmares for Sata. He wants the Zambia people to remain illiterate and uninformed. Well done Mr Mwamba, we shall never forget you.
Signs that we are officially back to KK era:
1. Gvt officials embarrassed in public by the president – stand up iwe, like nimu sukulu and kneeling during campaigns
2. Revocation of decision made by gvt officials – do you know why the predecessor did did not allow that heeh!
3. Switching gvt officials from ministry to ministrys in seconds like underwear – In the powers vested in me kateka
4. Weekly swearing in ceremonies – In line with gvt policies!
5. fear by gvt officials – Umuzungu wangu popularly known as POB
6. High prices of essential commodities -ZNBC , NIEC, ZESCO
7. Lack of leadership and direction -Party cadres running the nation
8. Nchekelamo
9. Vigilante – Mukame alafwa, by air. beating up church goers
10. Mocking of bald head gvt officials
11. Police brutality and…
i hav always said that in todays world,in adition to good leadershp qualities, education is cardinal.human life is has evolved.first it was stone age where sata belongs, then came iron where kabimba belongs and now we are in I.T age where i belong.sata must also know that people now easily acess info. through mtn/airtel(both foreigners) more than znbc.the more you hide info, the more people search for it and find it.
Governance is a duty and call beyond what many a people may perceive. Zambia is a small nation surrounded by troubled nations and peoples. The peace Zambia enjoys now is as a result of certain decisions made by men and women who thought beyond just appeasement. Media is a tool that has brought down governments, leaders and nations. For anyone in their sober mind to think that Zambia is mature enough to have those licences held by private media, you may end up regretting, never take the peace there is now for granted. Zambia still has too many enemies within and beyond boarders, who would like to use such free instruments as media to make Zambia lose its peace. There is nothing wrong with government doing its duty and call to stay a smile on the nation. Brothers and sisters, with love
I get your point. If only more people could see things the way you do.
you can only support the animal farm type of government if you are a “pig”. From your comments you are a pig who is protecting his interests.
No sense. So you would rather remain primitive for fear of the unknown. It sounds good being written but very wrong. In whatever perception you using you mico thought you wrong brother. Its not worth holding out info to some pipo. Come on big brother you can think better than that. The enemies will always be there but it is not the platform to justify this cause. We all need to know what is going on. In a timely manner and with accuracy. It pains to see your friends singing a song yet you cannot see a single word and yet you lived the same years and at the same time.
Sata might as well restrict The Post Prints to urban areas only. Why did it take Sata so long to realize that Mwamba had granted licenses to these two radio stations.
Mwamba also got so excited with Power, though he was given the injection fuel, by Sata & GBM to raise his vocal cord against the cartel. But knowing Sata, he plays a snake and shames the guy in front of the cabinet.
Fred False Prophet Mmembe has looked at this issue and realised that they need to stop coverage for opposition parties around the nation, so that they go and promote their agenda to market Kabimba using ZNBC , TOZ, ZDM & The Post. In the meantime, KK has been duped by these morons to the point of KK looking so “foolish” and as an” *****” that he has always called people over the years.
Cont..
Mushota, it is because he is more educated than you and that is precisely why you cannot stand him. He is a Rhodes Scholar educated at the highest school of learning, Oxford University. How do you hate someone you have never met? I shared same office with him and he is a very clever young man.
Unfortunately, it will not work. People have seen how the nation is going down one day after another. And no amount of time and efforts to “Market” the “Un-Marketable” person such as Kabimba will work.
As a matter of fact, Kabimba has so many enemies inside PF. If anyone stood for leadership challenge within PF after Sata, Kabimba has no chance. What kabimba must realize is that Mmembe has no Voting Powers inside PF. He is just an Attack Dog who has lost the fire to keep barking.
This will be a repeat of RB verses Mangande in MMD. The Post did everything to make sure RB lose the Presidency of MMD, but it failed. Mangande was not a marketable person inside MMD and the nation as a whole.
Cont…
The fear of waking up one day and being told that ”Bwana” you have to now to pay DBZ, National Airports, Zambia Revenue and the rest of creditors the $6.2m Dollars, which is going up by interest every day – Is really making Mmembe have sleepless nights.
The good thing and beauty is that that day will come when Mmembe will be summoned to pay the loans. Amen !!!
Imwe ba Kaingo T you assert ‘Zambia still has too many enemies within and beyond boarders”. Please be specific which enemies are these? Just mention one for me please. And by the way spelling of borders is not boarders! You remind me of UNIP which always had imaginary enemies. This is all made up in your mind bwana to keep citizens in perpetual fear to the extent where they start fearing their own shadows. Who wants to harm Zambia and for what?
I love Zambians because they know how to use the ballot effectively. I see someone getting on his knees sooner than later begging for a vote. What he did or did not do will be used against him. Can’t wait for 2016 when we Zambians who are perceived to be docile will call the shots.
Sata wants to manipulate the beliefs and feelings of Zambians through ZNBC. He does not want people to know the truth. This is what happens in controlling societies such as North Korea. Sata uses fear, anger, distortion, disinformation, and deceit or whatever it takes to achieve its goals. His goals are always to influence people’s beliefs and behavior toward one outcome rather than another.
Am actually panting so hard that i cant stop thinking Kabimba has something to do with all this confusion, which to be frank stings to the heart so sharp that iam at a loss of words!
@cindy
There is alot of confusion in the PFgovt, its scary!!! for mwamba to issues those licences.. all channels must have been followed then approved from higher organs (if need be) and everyone including the president MUST have been on the same page or at least aware in/of the process from start to finish!!
politicians easily forget SATA alepusikila ku radio phoenix wen he was in opposition and today he is throwing trash at them am puzzled i tell you.thats the caliber of the thing we have at state house he behaves like hes got amnesia.this guy really really amazes me.
@Ndobo, Ndingiswayo,
It’s really amazing how one can make such swift changes just like that, I wonder who sits with him and seals the deal. Am trying so hard to understand this fiascal, but i cant, how does one justify the closure of media houses like that? Where is this all movie heading to and what goal are they trying to achieve? It seems to me they are more interested in protecting and preserving themselves than building the nation. Whatever happens i hope someone opens their eyes and do the right thing, yes i expected confusion and mistrusts but not in this manner and at this rate, i thought we would see drama somewhere towards next year, am just dumb founded, anyway, lets wait and see what happens towards the end of this week and what next week will bring, hopefully positive news.
What is te true meaning of the acronym IBA? Is it “Independent Broadcasting Authority” or “Information Broadcasting Authority”?
IN 2010,
THE DRC GOVERNMENT WANTED TO INVESTIGATE FOR “SUSPECTED WIDESPREAD MISCONDUCT” BY MINING COMPANIES SUCH AS FIRST QUANTUM.
“FIRST QUANTUM REFUSED TO BE INVESTIGATED, THEY REFUSED STATING THAT ITS MINING CONTRACTS ARE FAIR AND LEGAL WHICH REQUIRED NO REVIEW.
THE DRC KICKED THEM OUT.
LATER, THE DRC AMBASSADOR TO SOUTH AFRICA, BENE M’POKO, SAID FIRST QUANTUM HAD VIOLATED THE LAW BROADLY. “WHEN THE NEW MINING CODE CAME IN 2002, WE ASKED EVERYONE TO CONFORM TO THE LAW. THAT IS WHY WE LAUNCHED THE REVIEW OF MINING LICENSES IN 2007,” .
MOTHER ZAMBIA WAKE UP?
What sense does it make to revoke or withhold a ‘national broadcasting licence’ when almost all electronic media have access to internet streaming technologies? Wasting effort on unsustainable ventures?
If it is bad to export concentrates, why is it good to export copper cathode or blister for that matter? Let make more cables and other components so the argument goes as it would really be more profitable anyway! While this silly debate goes on, there are many more minerals out there for which government practically refuses to give exploration or mining licences…….
For a moment i thought we had a statesman for a President one who believes in freedom of Press etc. Today i accept we need new leadership, we need a young person as a leader. Someone who wants to give each person a chance to vote with an informed mind.
Mushota no one cares why you like or hate chipimo you and chipimo add no value to zambia keep your love hate rubbish to yourself get a life
I thought he said the was no opposition in zambia now vavuta hahahahahah
I think the blood urea nitrogen levels (BUN) has gone so high in my presidents body related to kidney failure as a result of obstruction in the urinary tract and this is causing confusion in his brain. Is he not the same person who promised freedom of information when the PF gets into power. What has changed now! This is what power can turn someone into.
Zambia has a monkey president, a fossil with no brains. that’ s what u Zambians wanted, u have got capable people who can run a smooth government but u end up voting into power a sub A who doesn’ t even undertstand the meaning of the word ”Democracy”. No wonder the man is always with KK, it’ s because they share the same dictatorial tendencies. U will suffer as a country and u will live to regret for voting Sata into the presidency.
Fast track to First Republic.
very retrogress and unfortunate move. We need private radio stations to also give us the other side of what is happening in the country. Just what is Government scared of?
side effects of democracy
Sad reading, very sad, I’ve lost my appetite. 49 yrs of independence and we can not allow the private media nationwide broadcasting licenses? What is the difference? If the Post, a private print media can circulate their paper nationwide, what is wrong with radio phoenix broadcasting nationwide? Ho many shares does government have in the Post? As for Emmanuel, it’s high time you realized that in this government you are not paid for thinking. You did the right thing by getting clearance from of the Attorney General. But as you and I know by now, you are not supposed to think and act in this government. Just relax and enjoy your salary, it’s a holiday.
The statements and tone from Head of this State Zambia are shocking and disappointing to say the least. How do the entire president invite a PS only to embarrass him in front of cameras. And why ask an adult to stand up only not to be given a chance to speak. Advisers what is your role there, only to be paid tax payers money?
Why should he be this selfish? We all want uninterrupted access to information… Why should he be the only to have oranges and the rest of us lemons? We are all equal! There is nothing special about anyone…
Mushota you are one confused chap. how can you hate some one for no reason. I understand you are a woman. These creatures are difficult to understand. chipimo is the future president to be alongside frank bwalya.
This man is not normal. Any way I am not supprised as this is what we expect from such dull illiterate leaders.
Today I dine with them, support them. Tomorrow, I say they are off the mark. That is the circus we have to live with where Chipimo and his NAREP are concerned.
Just fasten your seat belts. We are about to take off for first rebublic.
Just fasten your seat belts. We are about to take off for first republic.
So, are we voting PF in 2016 or not?
They have clearly said they will not support developing Zambia.
Mushota whatever you call yoself. My president is right and for yo own info NAREP is the government in waiting.come 2016 we will be in government.
Those who hate Chipimo for a reason or no reason will have trouble witnessing Chipimo getting to state house in 2016. Watch the space. Chipimo for president 2016.
Licensing is not automatic. Applicants have a responsibility to meet certain conditions and regulations. Government is working properly if it put dubious applications on hold.
Wamuyima now PS! dull boy from MUNALI class of 1987. which university or college did he go to, he was not employed
BA KK mwalufyanya saaana! Mukafwa mulecula. Its a known secret that you and Fred Mmembe made a packed …….. nshalande ifingi because you know I or we know. You have succeeded in deceiving Mr Data, you are such an unforgiving sadist. Data meant well to embrace you, but you are so malicious to him, because u know he is not well tefyo? Elo nimunshebwa. Jesus is coming soon! Prophecy is being full filled, pity to those that fulfill negative events. BA KK sure!! How could you?
I meant sata not data
Dont understand some people…you hate someone you don’t even know …Chipimo is a humble leader whose vision is to see a better Zambia for the future generation. Let all support him viva Chipimo 2016 we are the future.
