MINISTER of Labour and Social Security Fackson Shamenda says President Sata is a frank leader who should not be misunderstood by investors.
Mr Shamenda said President Sata likes progressive ideas but he will not tolerate arrogant attitudes.
He said this in Lusaka yesterday when he met Chibuluma Mines management and leaders of Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) after they signed a collective agreement.
“Some people misunderstand the frankness of our President. They think he scares people. He is a very kind, nice person. I have worked with a number of presidents but none of them beats him.
“He is a very frank type of a person if you have got ideas. But if you are arrogant and you try to play tricks, then you can never be a good friend of our President,” he said.
The minister said because of President Sata’s good leadership, he accepted to work in his Government when he was approached.
And Mr Shamenda assured that Government is not interested in nationalising mining companies but it expects investors to be considerate with Zambian workers.
He said if investors have difficulties in running their mines, they are free to consult the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water Development to find a lasting solution.
The minister said Zambia’s investment environment is exceptional and cannot be compared with other countries.
He said Government respects the interests of the people who put it in power and assured Chibuluma Mines management that its investment is protected.
And Chibuluma Mines general manager Jackson Sikamo said the company needs US$23 million to develop its Chifupu project.
He said the project will extend the lifespan of the mine to 2021 from the initial 2017.
Mr Sikamo said the money would have been sourced from external financiers but will have to be raised locally.
MUZ general secretary Joseph Chewe said the union is happy that Chibuluma Mine has employed all its workers on a full-time basis.
Shamenda is placing a man ahead of an idea or principle.Its Sata who should strive to understand investors/markets and not vice versa.Did the orange have to bow to Isaac Newton or is it Newton had to bow to the laws of physics?
I totally agree, this kind of public boot licking is two fold, one to deter the President from this same situation Mukanga has gone through, two, to try and fool investors, but that sort of trick won’t work. We all know the Presidents lacks basic education, even sugar coating won’t change the man he is, Shamenda is just fooling himself.

However, some of us still think Ministers like you should protect our President from getting mud in his face by doing your job properly. My fear is that if Ministers and lower officials allow issues to spill over to State house, Zambians may regret one day.
I still believe the KCM issue was a “storm in a tea cup” which could have been handled by your office, the ministers of Mines, commerce (and ZDA) and foreign affairs (protocol) and, where necessary, Cabinet Office and State House (Finance and Economy wings) to obtain the same reasults without tarnishing the name of the President and Zambia. Sharma could still have been removed by Vedanta, an apology could still have come, jobs served & good reputation maintained .

Rudeness is not the same as Frankness! Sata is rude and lacks emotional intelligence. Sata is one person who wants to be feared than respected . Intelligent leaders always prefer the latter. Sata’s rotten behaviour like those of other horrible rude people like Amin is a symptom of an incurable inferiority complex…..people like these behave and communicate in socially unacceptable ways as a coping mechanism. They want to pull their weight around. But in doing so they just reinforce their outcast status. It is a vicious cycle!
Sata is sharp, in 2003 I attended environment meeting at Lumwana mine field camp with the late president Mwanawasa and Hon. Sondashi, to my disappointment 95 percent of the time our president was a sleep/ absent.

Spot on. Sata is an uncouth , uncultured, uneducated tyrant. While other uneducated leaders display humility and wisdom, Sata lacks both education and humility. Shamenda knows the damage that Sat continues to wreck on the investment climate – otherwise why would he be going out of his way to try and explain to us that we should not misunderstand Satat’s frankness. I have been negotiating with some interested parties for a project in Zambia but as they are also looking at the situation for investors they rather wait and see,as at the current situation is not satisfactory at all.Very sad.
