Former FAZ committee member Henchel Chitembeya says the next
Chipolopolo head coach must be a Zambian.
Chitembeya said time has come for a local coach to lead the national team.
He said Zambians must change their belief that foreign coaches are the best.
Chitembeya said Zambia has many local coaches that are capable of
drilling the senior national team.
“Now is the time to start looking at our own coaches. Right now most
countries in African have got local coaches and are doing well, look
at Ghana and Nigeria,” he said.
“We need to zambianise the technical bench,” Chitembeya said.
He added: “The most difficult job in the country is governing the
nation and we have had a Zambian president since 1964, you mean
coaching the national team is more difficulty than governing the
country? I don’t think so.”
“It is high time we changed our thinking that a white coach is best for us.”
Zambia is currently under interim coach Patrice Beaumelle following
the departure of Herve Renard last month.
yap yap yap yap….
how do you think like that surely ba chitembeya.governing a country and coaching a national team. and why should you relate being an expatriate to being white?
Mr.Chitembeya,Ico wasosa,cinenaco.Let’s try Local Coach
Gud thinkng bakalamba or my friend.
U may hav a point Mr Chitembeya ..but the analogy u ve used throws it off…if this country was led by even a chinese..it wud be 100 times better..we as blacks hav proved to be letdowns including those believed to hav had humble backgrounds i.e FJT and MCS…greed, selfishness, arrogancy ,pride…stick the argument to its futbal context.Your point has bn taken however.
Compring coaching football to National President is misplaced ba Chitembeya….look at MCS no direction and no tactics…..poor! The man is sitting on his resposibilties according to Edgar Lungu…..Sometimes Lungu speaks sense when he is sober…..The point is we need a FOOTBALL COACH not a PE Teacher…..This one is the point….white or Black, we need a Football coach. Zambia is a world class team and approprietly we need a suitable coach.
In England the national team managers sit is hotter than 10 downing street. Had pm job been open to foreigners, one would be occupying it by now.
What Mr. Chitembeya needs to remember is that what Zambia needs is neither an expatriate nor a local coach but a COMPETENT COACH. “Local” and “expatriate” should not be the selection criteria but COMPETENCE. Our age-group teams have been drilled by local coaches and we can point at local coaches that have made it at this level such as Oswald Mutapa Jr, George Lwandamina, Keagan Mumba and Honour Janza (all at Under 20 level). At U-17, I cannot think of anyone. Now, the Big job, at Senior level, what coach, local or expatriate has taken Zambia to greatest success? The answer is everybody’s guess; Expatriate Coach. At this point we need to be level headed and be clear in our objective; is it to Zambianise or to take football to the next level? If it the latter then colour doesn’t…
WITH ALL THE EXAMPLES CHITEMBEYA U WERE SURPPOSED TO GIVE ATLEAST 5 NAMES SO THAT WE UNDERSTAND U BETTER U DONT END LIKE A BROKEN RECORD
Chitembeya needs to know that we need to choose a coach on merit and not on the basis of origin. Zambia needs a COMPETENT Coach who can be local or expatriate. If funds are not a limiting factor, Zambia needs to a world-class coach who is capable of handling players in all spheres and get the best out of them. If there is a Zambian out there ranking among world-class coaches, I am sure FAZ and government can proudly engage such a son of the soil. Let us focus on COMPETENCE for the advancement of football and not the origin of the coach.
Grace, your analysis is so right and well thought through.
Your thinking shows that you have been to school.
Thanks,

A local Coach with a descent pay scale will do us good but with a navie FAZ Executive Team. I can only sepculate if that will yield us no any better results. Success of any entity begins with its leadership if we are to get indomitable results. We must first believe in ourselves and trust the prowess of our local Coaches and relentlessly support them triumph. At least, we now speak in unison to engage a local Coach than Expats!
Please get Kalusha back as the coach!!!
have you just wet you pants & now calling out for help????
Yo
Misplaced comparison indeed. How has having a Zambian president worked for us huh? If the job of the president was open to foreigners I would hire one instead.
Chitembeya H is right but I ‘ve doubts if his thoughts can b backed by the current faz executive who think suggestions and advises are challenges to authority. Keegan Mumba, Wesley Mondo, Chicken George, Damiano Mutale, Mwale of Nkana, Beston Chambeshi and Fordson Kabole just to mention a few are some of those that can take ZAMBIA FORWARD. They have more experience and expertise than Bauleni
There is nothing wrong having a foreign coach as long we get the results more as nothing wrong having Zambian coach but not just for the sake of having a Zambian,we need someone with the high level understanding of modern soccer, coming to your comparison of having a Zambian president since 1964 I think every normal Zambia knows there’s nothing worthy writing home of.
Facts are very stubborn things! FACT: Zambia does not have a local coach qualified enough to take us to the CAF finals. We have NEVER reached the finals when we have had a Zambian coach. FACT: Zambian coaches are NOT ready, both technically and management wise! Coaching a national team is not just about taking the tea, for road runs or jumping hoops on the field, it is about more than that. Even well established national teams in Europe have had to rely on foreign Managers at times.
Blind patriotism may work for political offices but NOT technical roles. We have messed ourselves before and we will do so again. That is guaranteed!
Good point man.
@bauze.
here is an objective, intelligent ,educated and enlightened human being.thumbs up bauze…wamene afuno nvela anvele!!!like they say,.. “you have said it all!!!”
I agree with the proposal. I was in Ghana when the local coach was apointed, they raised his salary from 5000 dollars to 20000 dollars. He is doing a good job. Please let us try our local talent.
Star, the issue is not just money but what technical skills one has. You can give them all the money but if skill is not there there will be no results.
Don’t present the case like we have never tried it before. Look back and see what results we got then, and also see how these local coaches are advancing themselves as far as training is concerned.
I believe coaches need to be fun of books not just the BALL.
ALA CORRUPTION NINSHI YAKULA KU NATIONAL TEAM….
People people…. whats with this crying of a local coach preposition all the time? It wont make any difference, give the guy a chance he hasnt even played half of a seasons match you are already crying for a new local coach. You are very unstable that transcends in all you do as well as your results. The players must work it takes two to Tangle, infanct this is being segregative fire him because he cant perform not bringing in citizenship, does that determine the results? Very dalo and primitive, you are now becoming a pain in my head stop this Bush mentality damn it!
well said sir
Chitembeya, yap yap yap! Which coach are talking about? Look at our local clubs, we are always eliminated in the first round . I can only assume you want one of your friends you drink kachasu with to be employed. We want to see fruit.
Agree with
South Africa has just beaten Spain he world champions 1-0!! Ifwe it is just excuses, even if we played Malawi B we would fail to win and we could say “ni friendly fwe”.
We need a new local coach!! Msiska/Charles Musonda/Fighton etc…
Having a good coach is one thing and having a good crop of players is another. What we urgently in the country now is a good crop of players who will compete for positions in the team. Its not the duty of the national team coach to groom the players but to manage them well that they can display their abilities well that will be desired results. You can take Patrick Phiri,Mwale,Chilumba and even linos makwaza to coach the current the national teams of Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon they will succeed reason being these three countries have good crops of players who ply their trade in Europe and what competition is to get a place in the team. Not here where material is scarce and the coach has no option but to use what he has or given. Can Chitembeya tell us who can replace Herve Renard among the
You are right. Let the Zambian coaches first develop the local players through their work in these local clubs. Every position needs to be justified on merit. You do not just get a local coach just because you want a local coach. Steven Keshi (Nigeria) won the African Cup of Nations as a player. He has been to the World Cup as a player. He qualified Mali to the AFCON. That is why he is being successful at national level. Tell me, which local coach has won an African Cup of Nations in Zambia or let alone been to the World Cup? Now we are watching the Zambian league games on TV. I have seen only Power playing a very good passing and possession game. Other teams are just puffing and running hard including our new league leaders did not impress me in the passing and possession game. Learn
There we go again Zambians very stupid as always……munyelela kwamene mutampa manzi,,,,,, this chitembeya he is talking of a local coach and if you ask him what soccer league does he watch? the answer is all what we do as Africans we watch the English premier league why? because it is the best league and most of the coaches are not from England they are from all over the world except Africa why? because as Africans/ Zambia we corrupt and when did a local Zambian coach won an Africa cup? I get very disgusted when I see everyone says yes to every stupid comments that’s why out country is even in debt now because we stupid and we don’t think through things. But as one of the USA based sponsor of Zambian football if a local coach take over look forward for financial problems.
Chitembeya is just floating agood idea. The problems you have put across canbe delt with since you know them.1.You need think tank.2 Financial support.3 Organising committe etc there is alot so to say and all will be fluidity.
I think the problem we have at the moment is the crop of players. Faz,technical bench and the coach should seriously evaluate Kennedy Mweene performance. Analise Lesotho, Sudan , Ghana, Brazil, Egypt goals. Our goal keeper will be found wanting. This not a problem with the coach but players.
Lame observation: Mweene has gone on to become First choice keeper for the top team in the south African premier league
Surprised that Chitembaya was in FAZ leadership with such racist comments. I accept that we need to groom a Zambian coach but not for the reasons Chitembaya is suggesting (for the sake of replacing a white expatriate). Thats cheap.
Chitembeya is just repeating populist lines and putting them into a very tired argument. A local coach has to put his hand up for the job by winning the champions league or the age group world cups. Of the west Africans can win them why can’t we? Since winning the nations cup the bar has been set higher so the national coaching position is no longer there for experiments. Only jewels local or foreign should vie for the post.
