One Zambian ref heads to Cosafa U20

Zambian referee Amos Chalwe has been selected to officiate at the 2013
COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championship in Lesotho.

Chalwe is the only local referee on the penal of 17 match officials to
handle matches at the regional youth championship that will run from
December 3 to 14.

Chalwe will be an assistant referee at the tournament Zambia will be defending.

Eight referees and nine assistant referees will officiate in the
event, with at least one from each of the COSAFA member countries.

COSAFA added that the Under-20 Youth Championships is not just a
platform for players and administrators to fine-tune their craft, but
match officials as well.

“The COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championships is not just a platform for
players and administrators to fine-tune their craft, but match
officials also and this year’s championship will give some of the top
emerging talents in the region the opportunity to take part in a major
international event.”

“The spotlight should never be on the officials though and they will
all hope that they have a quiet, assured tournament where their skills
as match officials are shown through the manner in which the players
grab all the attention, and not the match officials,” COSAFA said in
a statement on Monday
