The '5' Police officers deployed at Mano radio station in Kasama to block GBM

Police officers deployed at Mano radio station in Kasama yesterday

Northern Province Police Commissioner Mary Chikwanda has that the that the deployment of police officers at Radio Mano was meant to maintain law and order in Kasama and prevent confusion from engulfing the normally serene town.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Ms Chikwanda dismissed as false claims that the police wanted to arrest Kasama Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba.

Ms Chikwanda said that some five police officers had been deployed to Radio Mano in Kasama yesterday in order to ensure that no-one used the premises to fuel divisions and confusion.

However, pictures taken from the scene showed that there were more than five police officers deployed to the station.

Ms. Chikwanda clarified that the deployment of police officers at Radio Mano was not meant to block Mr. Mwamba but to maintain law and order following the recent clashes between rival groups from the PF.

She also allayed fears that a multitude of police officers were deployed at the radio station.
Ms. Chikwanda however said the police will continue to maintain peace in Kasama town.

Meanwhile, Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba has dared the police to arrest him if he has done anything wrong.

Mr. Mwamba made the remark in a telephone interview with ZANIS in Kasama yesterday afternoon after he was forced to stay away from a live programme on Radio Mano Community Station due to police presence at the institution.

Mr Mwamba who resigned early last week as Defence Minister accused the police of planning to arrest him if he had featured on the Radio Station.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwamba apologized to Kasama residents for failing to appear on a scheduled radio programme but promised to speak out at an appropriate time.

Mr. Mwamba popularly known as GBM said he wanted to appear on Radio Mano to clarify matters to his constituents following his abrupt decision to resign as Defence Minister.

Yesterday morning, police in full riot gear surrounded Radio Mano Community Station in Kasama in a bid to prevent rival PF factions from clashing in view of Mr. Mwamba’s scheduled live programme on the Community Radio Station.

    • Liers without shame! Why did the same Police not do the same 24hrs earlier when Miles sampa and Jean Kapata were puking at the same station. They are simply PF cadres acting on instructions from Sata.

    • no amount of explaining will change the perception of the people. besides some explanations are fit to be told to grade sevens and not people who have been to school, not just secondary school but university and college. yaaabaaa….. these 1diots are a shame to our country

    • It should be against the Law for Police to lie to citizens. How can they uphold the law when they lie and jump to the tune of political cadres? The whole lot should be fired in 2016

    • What confusion are you talking about? Is it the confusion in the heads of all PF supporters? Certainly I think it is.
If GBM wanted to talk on radio mano for sure he wanted to clarify the situation to his constituency as he is not allowed to see them. But the actions of your paranoid leader Sata are not helping in any way, apart from increasing the perceived tension already existing. What ever Sata does from now on wards will perceived as an act to intimidate GBM.
This is the kind of tyranny we fought against in the 80 and 90 to remove KK. If you remember KK’s paramilitary police were ruthless than these PF has today. But people rose and defied KK to cause riots which forced him to change his mind and allow multi-party politics.
People know you are lying big time.
      UPND Please save…

    • All these innuendos about GBM are serving only one purpose, and that is kick starting the wheel of change in Nortern, Luapula and even Muchinga province to start looking for an alternative party to support because the people in these provinces are equally disappointed with the draconian PF actions against the media and people in general.
Once the wheel of change starts turning no amount of political intimidation or killings can stop it. The more PF will try to control the situation using dictatorship methods the more they will be fuelling the engine powering the wheel of change.
People up down the country are tired of this PF madness, and now serious leadership to steer this country into a proper direction.

ONLY UPND AND HH’S LEADERSHIP CAN SAVE ZAMBIA FROM TOTAL DESTRUCTION.

    • I know a lot of people who are still under Mmembe’s spell of tribal stupidity peddled by his past paper when his tribesman lost to HH. People should now not trust what Mmembe says and take it as the gospel truth. Just look at how his cartel are busy confusing the president to make irrational knee jerk reactions that in the end are back firing big time.
Lets NOT useTRIBAL madness as a criteria for selecting our leaders because Zambia far bigger and more important than any tribe. To be honest no tribe can live without the other. All tribes are dependant on each other, from South to North and East to West. More over in Zambia today there many families with blood from at least two tribes. So how can we separate them?
If you want meaningful change come 2016, then vote UPND and HH.

    • Let me also try to clarify the issue surrounding UPND’s choice for HH as its leader.
I think people in UPND selected HH based on his strong principles, humbleness, his business acumen, his vision for Zambia and above all his financial muscle. All the other leaders who challenged him had no financial muscle.
To run political party one needs enough money to bank roll the party and subsidise the party donations. Its impossible to run a political party on party donations only in Africa.
Lets imagine people like Bob Sichinga had taken the UPND presidency, how possible is it, that Sichinga would have managed to run the party without defecting to PF in favour of Sata ‘s brown envelops? NOT POSSIBLE. So it is on such basis that people selected HH who can not easily be bought off by Sata.

    • Lets imagine people like Bob Sichinga had taken the UPND presidency, how possible is it, that Sichinga would have managed to run the party without defecting to PF in favour of Sata ‘s brown envelops? NOT POSSIBLE. So it is on such basis that people selected HH who can not easily be bought off by Sata.
Therefore the issue of tribalism being peddled by Mmembe and his past paper are baseless. His aim was to create confusion within UPND for his personal benefit and deny Zambia a credible leader who can use his widom ,and business acumen and experience, to create vast wealth for all Zambians irrespective which tribe they belong to.
Tribalism being talked about is but a dead issue and politicians like Masebo relegated them selves to the dustbin for campaigning using tribalism.
      Viva UPND!!!!!

    • Folks
I would like to finish my blog by saying any one who characterises another Zambian based on tribe is a buffoon. People should be judged for what they are capable of contributing to society not their tribe.
How ever it is also utter stupidity to think that only certain tribes have the capacity to head certain important government institutions. All tribes have an equal share of capable men and women who can do a good job at what ever level in government and the private sector.
From now on let us not think tribe but ideas that person is capable of bringing to table for the betterment of a country as a whole.

UPND and HH are the only hope there is for Zambia. Ignore this advice at own peril.Lets not repeat the 2011 mistake, because that would be utter stupidity!

      Viva UPND and…

  1. So why is the Commissioner denying that the police were there to block Mwamba because his speech was deemed as going to “fuel division and confusion”? The Police has just exposed itself. You blocked him period because he wasn’t going to sing the master’s chorus!!!!

  2. hahahahahahahaha so even the police are as dull as their presido, unless the pictures am seeing here were taken from somewhere else

  3. The picture on LT was captures at Radio Mano yesterday this was the group of police offices to arrival the number of police officers was more than 30 and 1 wonders when Police Commissioner says was meat to maintain peace. Govt officials should tell the true and cheating the pip of Zambia coz thier aim was to block GBM

  4. So now every one is guarding their tongues, watching their mouths? This kind of statements employ a tense and sentive environment, say something different you are as good as gone!
I understand that keeping Numb means supporting GBM, the only way to seem safe is to say something, anything as long as it has a sweet patsry for the higher power!

  5. I totally agree with the Police Commissioner, surely we have forgotten the recent rival clashes where people were using machetes and pangas to hack each other. I have invariably believed GBM is full of confusion. Let him use his money wisely.

  6. @Wanzelu

PLEASE BE RATIONAL IN YOUR INTERPRETATION OF EVENTS SURROUNDING GBM. THE POLICE TODAY ARE TALKING ABOUT “PREVENTING CONFUSION”. DON’T YOU THINK SOME OF GBM’S DETRACTORS WOULD SIMPLY WANT TO REMOVE (HIM -THE SOURCE OF THAT CONFUSION) FROM SOCIETY?

PLEASE ALLOW A RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT RESTORE NORMALCY OR ORDER. GBM SHOULD NOT START A SPARRING MATCH WITH GRZ OR HE WILL REGRET IT. THIS IS AFRICA!

    • @LUAPULA PREMIER
What confusion are you talking about? Is it the confusion in the heads of all PF supporters? Certainly I think it is.

People you are lying big time.

    • @Luapula,
Please spare us this nonsense. GBM is a free man in what should be a democratic country. And that means he should go about his life without interference as long has he does not infringe on other peoples rights or break the law. Appearing on radio is neither infringing others rights nor breaking the law. He should have been left do do as he pleases and anyone breaking the law or causing disorder as a result of GBM being on radio should simply be arrested and charged. The police know who were involved in the machete fights as well as the politically motivated killings during bye-elections but they won’t act because instructions have not come from plot one. Pls don’t defend the indefensible.

    • @Luapula
I forgot to ask if “causing confusion” is a crime? And if so how many times has Sata and the rank and file of the PF caused confusion? Or is that law not applicable to members of the ruling party?

    • @ luapula
      You say:
“…PLEASE ALLOW A RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT RESTORE NORMALCY OR ORDER…”
Are you asking for UN peacekeepers?
If not, which government you are referring to?

  7. Are these rival factions that were being prevented from clashing the same ones that our president recently said don’t exist? Or are they the same opposition infiltrated PF caders that are blamed for bringing apparently non existent decisions and confusion to the party???? This movie is now confusing!!! No more popcorn. Nipeleni viwaya!!!!

  8. I urge fellow Zambians to keep records of all these events. These events will be investigated and the truth laid bare after PF leaves gvt because the Nation will have to conduct a TRUTH COMMISSION which will thoroughly inquire into the PF misrule. The TRUTH COMMISSION will be headed by a retired Judge who has already been identified. The Commission is necessary to prevent emergence of a culture of impunity which is so prevalent under the PF. All citizens with grievances against the current regime will be free to testify. The leaders of the regime and their henchmen anc women will have to answer. Draft legislation for the establishment of the Truth Commission has already been prepared. This will be a very critical exercise in the development of our Nation.
    Guardians of the Nation.

    • I think, even the media should be factual in there quest to disseminate the information to the public. Yesterday they showed us an alarming picture of police in riot gear. It was also reported that they were more than 50 police officers. In my view, i see nothing wrong with the police being proactive when they can sense that confusion might occur.

  9. How can we trust the Police when the police commissioner herself is a master of liars? She says only 5 cops were deployed at the radio station when we can see that there were multitudes of them, just to prevent one man from his freedom of expression. Then you have the mad Mwansa Kapeya talking about government not interfering in how the media operates in the country. This is sheer madness by the PF. We want to warn the police commissioner to remain truthful otherwise we will treat her as an enemy of the people she is supposed to be protecting. Politicians come and go so please place your loyalty in the right place otherwise you will be swept away by the wind of change. Timely warning for all those holding public office.

  10. Awe my party needs retrospection before tamulatulusa please kabimba cant win the presidential elections twapapata. Whats happening is really shameful to my party. Lets work as a united team

  11. Was it a deliberate strategy by PF to have only female commissioners because they are easily intimidated ti lie for the boss? What a shame!

  12. @ it’s a worry(Discredit the Post and Kabimba for lying to the nation about RB)

YOU ASK IF “CAUSING CONFUSION” IS A CRIME? WHAT CAN YOU CALL “A CONFUSION OR BRAWL” WHICH DISTURBS PEACE? IN WHICH A CADRE IS KILLED BY FELLOW PANGA WIELDING CADRES. DID YOU WANT GOVERNMENT TO WAIT UNTIL THE SO CALLED “CRIME” HAS BEEN COMMITTED? OR UNTIL THE ANTI HAD STORMED THE RADIO STATION? DID YOU REALLY BELIEVE GBM WHEN HE CLAIMED THAT HE WAS POPULAR THROUGHOUT ZAMBIA?

PLEASE, POLICE WERE THERE NOT TO ARREST GBM BUT TO ACT AS A BUFFER BETWEEN TWO (PRO AND ANTI GBM) POTENTIAL TROUBLE INCITERS, AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE.

GBM IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE A THREAT TO HE MCS, IF LUAPULA AND CB PERCEPTIONS ARE ANYTHING TO GO BY..MAY BE LUSAKA.

    • @ luapula premiere the questions here are: why are the police lying that only 5 police officers and were deployed? Why was there no deployment when Sampa and Kapata featured on the same station? Where is the freedom of expression? Has GBM challenged anyone’s authority by resigning his post? Is this the PFs way of reasoning?

    • @LUAPULA PREMIER

Please spare us your confusion and just chew the the ka money from Sata’s brown envelops and stop lying. Ubufi bulaya nokubwela. Don’t behave like bamunyela pa lukungu amafi yalanunka.

PF and its supporter behave like umuntu unya amafi nukukana ati temafi yakwe.

Please PF spare us your nonsense we sick and tired of it.

  13. Viva pf!l wish u can do the real puncing on dem not the ones dey are making in their sick heads.for instance ci wechipumbu(Wanzeru).GBM, pride goes be4 a fall.Genuine pf members be strong as thugs fro de opo ve hatched a way 2 buy weak souls as GBM.

    • @Osmore

Prepare a rope to hung your yourself because the political landscape has changed in favour of the opposition.
UPND the party of the future is being campaigned for by the PF themselves. Sata and his madmen have taken to hill shouting “mwebantu voteleni UPND and HH ifwe ba PF natufilwe ukuteka ichalo cha Zambia.” In english Sata is calling upon all well meaning Zambians to vote UPND and HH because PF has failed to rule Zambia.

  14. Don’t these radio stations do call-in programmes?

So why does GBM even have to go to the station for his interview? Let them talk to him and air the interview by phone!

    • @Spuds

The police were deployed to make sure that no presenter calls GBM for a call in interview.

Who ever is in charge of PF damage control propaganda is a non entity. He knows totally nothing about being a political spin doctor.

  15. If they were deployed not to block GBM, why wasn’ t he allowed to feature a live Radio Programme ? Ba PF (Pa Fwaka), so you still have a wrong perception that the people you see around are as dull as your poor degree of imaginations ? This time around, almost every one knows what you are, that you are a party and government which is full confused characters and you are there to fuel more confusions even among your ownselves. Peace is just a dream with you and it’ s a very unknown phenomenon in your own camp. You must tryto evaluate your ownselves and realise the importance peace which is the benchmark of development in all circles. Please, leave GBM alone to enjoy his democratic rights as a World and Zambian citizen because these rights were not endowned to him by President Sata but by…

  16. U sick minds haven’t u bin following de happenings off late?Don’t u dink it was neccessary 4 the security men 2 be there 4 even GBM’s safety?B reasonable nd say objective words.Jesus,u are above de devil & his demons. Peace will reign 4 ever.Amen!

    • @Osmore

GBM has enough money to care of his personal protection. He does not need Sata’s help. He paid for Sata’s security when he was in opposition why should he fail to provide his own security. If he wants he can hire the American Black watch no one can stop them from coming into Zambia to carry out their duties as long as America can allow them.

Stop lying because you are just exposing your stupidity.

  17. @ MENGO, in Zambia, Police wait to be to be what to do. No proactive Police in Zambia sorry. When PF thugs were killing each other, where were the so called proactive Police? our country is finished. Very sad indeed. In developed countries, someone could have been impeached by now. It can only happen in democracies like South Africa. Zambia, like Zimbabwe have adopted similar policies of dealing with their citizens, hence ZANU-PF and PF! Very sad readings!

    • @Musonda

Not to worry we are on ground mobilising, we shall boot them out come rain or sun shine. If we managed to boot KK who is this Ka sata to scare us.

  18. It’s a given, the police were there to restrict him. Whatever their reasons were, we are now curious. What was GBM going to say that would have been so detrimental to the government? On and on with Elias and NAREP. Clean politics, allowing for truth to prevail and fulfilling the people’s wishes

  19. Mwenkoko mwe, why didn’t you phone GBM to inform him about an impending deployment of Police at Radio Mano beforehand.

Sata – Ulinkulungwe walyo mwaka umo!!! Blari bastard…..

  20. Govt should not panic but instead remain focused on their development agenda.Lets GMB say what he pleases, don’t make him even more popular by blocking him.

  21. So these cops they really can’t say NO to orders under any circumstances whatsoever even when the orders don’t make sense at all? Do they simply just obey and respond to orders even when the target is one of their own? I really feel sorry for some of these starving and thuggish looking cops. I surely would have been fired by now for gross indiscipline of disobeying commands ‘from the top’ as they like to call them.

As for Zambians, when are we going to be in the international news for demonstrating against a tyrant? There are times when you think assassins can probably can do better and make history by taking out one of the worst dictators ever to walk this earth.

  22. Only demon inslaved will write like dat @142. l don’t buy into politics of slandar, falsehood & 0 sorts of demon infested language dat u & yo damagogues use.Due 2 yo evil minds u have exagerated everything about pf & Sata. Are dose values for u?Demon

    • @ Osmore
I can speak from my own experience. The truth is even more scaring.
Try for once to examine all the facts objectively from neutral point.
Just the facts on the ground and not empty slogans. Forget the media, walk the streets, go inside supermarkets, check the prices, speak to the people you do not know and then make objective assessment.
One more thing, I was born free, I live my life as a free man, and even if I die in jail, I will die free man who has not sold his soul for a few pieces of silver.

  23. If u insault the one u purport to have gone wrong and want me to agree with u,l can’t do that.l can’t do dat because the approach u ve used make me loose trust in u.That’s why l side with pf and Sata.U are worse than them. Viva pf!GBM bola panshi !

  24. I thought Sata is much more cleverer than that. Why cannot he do thing in a subtle way. Appoint one person in charge of operation GBM. That person draws a plan, shows to PF President and then they work on that plan.
Plan can be like- At the same time, all Arizona trucks are checked at police road blocks. Katundu offloaded and trucks thoroughly checked. It is rainy season and consequences are too dire.
On the road blocks, policemen request drivers to give lift to his relatives. On the next road blocks charge the driver for carrying passengers in a truck.

Thoroughly check documents of the trucks, fitness, lights, tyres and so on.

By the time trucks reach their destination, it will be 4 times of normal driving time and within a month, GBM will lose millions. In the process many…

  25. Continued from previous submission..

By the time trucks reach their destination, it will be 4 times of normal driving time and within a month, GBM will lose millions. In the process many trucks will be parked for various offences, FRA and others’ katundu will be soaked in water, demand for damages will mount.
No need to stop loading his trucks by FRA. Instead let it be seen to be normal business while road blocks work normally (as they do with ordinary truck drivers, but now with additional instructions to overdo it and ensure a journey of 2 days takes 6 days and strict application of road act plus every truck thoroughly checked with katundu offloaded and then loaded back by driver)
Delay in payment of freight will be another killer.
Visit GBM milling Plants and check pollution…

  26. Delay in payment of freight will be another killer.
Visit GBM milling Plants and check pollution levels, the level of maize particles (dust) in the air, safety gear worn by workers and so on.
    shall I say more?

    All the best GBM.

  27. Delay in payment of freight will be another killer.
Visit GBM milling Plants and check pollution levels, the level of maize particles (dust) in the air, safety gear worn by workers and so on.
    shall I say more?

And disturb zesco power supply to his offices across the country, milling plant cannot run without Power

All the best GBM. Feel the pinch that we felt when you stole our contracts from FRA, when your police harassed our drivers, when you delayed release of maize for our trucks and delayed our payment. This is your lesson to treat others the way you would like them to treat you.
I for one who have no sympathy for you and will like Mr. Sata to do this to you. One elephant dies many small truckers will create jobs for unemployed.

  28. This is nothing but a personal vendetta between Sata and the traditional royal establishment using our public funds. I hope Sata lives long enough after his term of office in order to account for this barbaric waste of our public funds and time on a personal matter. Imagine if all the time and resources wasted in this non-economic endeavour were channeled into developing the province, e.g. drilling bore holes and installing pumps for clean water, or rural electrification so that every village has access to electric power, or better healthcare thru better remuneration for nurses… etc, the province, and the Country, would have developed in leaps and bounds. But alas… Its all about himself. The net effect of what Sata is doing is taking our Country back into the colonial era. This bad.

  29. @ Wanzelu

YOU ARE AT IT AGAIN. YOU AND YOUR FELLOW CADRES ASK “what confusion?”. HAVE YOU NOT READ GBM’s UNCENSORED STATEMENT WHICH HE ISSUED IN HIS BEMBA DIALECT FROM KASAMA? CONFRONTATIONAL! WHAT FOR?
WHY CAN’T HE JUST LEAVE THE PARTY LIKE MALEMA DID IF HE WAS NOT HAPPY?

  30. Northern Province Police Commissioner Mary Chikwanda is a SHAMELESS LIAR. Intelligence pressonell whom Sata insults day in and day out have the right to switch their allegiance. This time around, many OP intelligence personnel find it prudent to pass own security information to respectable Zambians

Sata is now a loner and he will never get the most accurate information that Presidents are privileged to get to make informed decisions. His actions are too haphazard because Sata relies on misinformation from The Post Headquarters.

  31. Is the PF bought about to capsize? It appears somewhat over-crowded with too few skilled paddlers! Wonder if everyone in there knows how to swim to safety, if it does capsize?

    • Sorry meant to say: “Is the PF boat about to capsize? It appears somewhat over-crowded with too few skilled paddlers! Wonder if everyone in there knows how to swim to safety, if it does capsize?”

  32. The commissioner divided the number by 10 thas how she came up with the number 5 so dont point fingers at her, mind you she is a commissioner and commissioners always speak the TRUTH COZ they are on oath.

  33. Let’s get to the bottom of this Kabimba-Sata saga. There is one tabloid newspaper that has been supporting Kabimba’s ascendance to the Republican Presidency. This is the same newspaper that has been insulting the intelligence of the Bemba readers. The proprietor of this tabloid has been in the forefront instigating Sata to despise the Bemba Royal family.

This tabloid’s attack on GBM is linked to the promotion of Kabimba to ascend to Republican Presidency to protect looters of tax payers money.

If there are any Bembas who still read this divisive tabloid then we might as well send them to Chainama for mental check up because of their failure to use their brains. A week’s boycott to buy this tabloid would send a clear message that Zambians are disgusted by publications of LIES.

  34. As long as you use political humbug to out do pf i will never agree with u. Actually i view you worse than the one u want to outdo. That’s against democratic values.Viva pf!Viva Sata! let GBM go! He can’t buy us with his money on any price.

  35. Imwe can’t you see that there are ONLY 5 cops in the picture? Bana Chikwanda is speaking on Oath and therefore telling the TRUTH. Oh my foot!!!

  36. The president is afraid of the Beans that GBM is about to vomit ……..Defence contracts , His background instructions to chase Kabimba using GBM etc

  37. The Police cant make decisions on their own because they are just used as political pawns. No wonder people say Police stands “People of little intelligence can enter”. Twasebana. This includes the fake Phd Solomon Lick my Jere

  38. Chikwanda, Chikwanda, Chikwanda, you must take the Zambian people for complete morons, don’t you. Too bad, your career has only three more years. Then you’ll become a disgraced ex-cop. Disgraced and charged with abuse of office. Tick tick tick tick
