The Oasis Forum says Zambians should ignore President Michael Sata’s remarks pertaining to the constitution.This follows President Sata’s recent call on public service officers to ignore people talking about the constitution.
Oasis Forum Chairperson, Susanne Matale told Qfm News that the constitution is not about President Sata or his government but is about the more 13 million Zambians who resolved 18 years ago to have a new constitution.
Rev. Matale who is also Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Secretary General recalled that this is the same new constitution President Sata while opposition leader referred to as what the country needed when he condemned the current constitution as being obsolete and defunct.
She said the Oasis Forum does not understand why President Sata has turned around now that he is Head of State and says that the current constitution is good when the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) based its 2011 campaigns on delivering a new constitution.
And Reverend Matale has advised President Sata to desist from disparaging fellow leaders in public, citing the instance in which he referred to PF members of parliament as useless.
She said this is because it is very embarrassing for people in the country who are looking up to leadership in the party and government, to hear of their leaders being described as useless in public.

Reverands and opposition leaders alike are focusing on minor issues. Look at the bigger picture, Sata is a credible leader who’is taking development away fom the capital and into remote areas. You will cry when 2 years from now the 1000s of kilometres of road are complete. You will be crying and eating dust when Sata’s master plan is unveiled: all universities and stadiums.

We should not just ignore him and let him get away with a number of things. He is a president and needs to exhibit exemplary leadership. My temples throb when I hear of people talking of respecting the president. Respect is earned. Each and every Zambian citizen has got a God given right to good governance. I applaud people who stand out and demand their rights. The unfortunate thing is that we lose sight of the bigger picture and instead resort to insulting each other based on tribe. HH is the only guy I have seen so far who is giving reason for his actions.

Rev, i do have a challenge when you ask Zambians to ignore what the President is saying. How do you ignore a Presidential pronouncement, the Church must be brutally honest with the Zambian people. Most of our faith leaders have access to President Sata including yourself but you haven’t utilised your access to SPEAK TRUTH to POWER. The Church and in particular, the Catholic Church which is also my Church has been unfair. It mobilised citizens to vote for President Sata in some spaces, this was because we needed change. Unfortunately, the Church has not confronted the President’s Bad governance with the same mobilisation. @Kudos I have respect for you. Zambia’s development for years had centered in Lusaka. Sata is working hard by developing the all Zambia. People see it as a very easy thing to do but for years none did it. Although Sata may have some flaws like everyone else, he is a good leader that has done a lot in a short period of time. 50 + 1 may seem ok on paper but it is not workable! Only times of a “near revolution” like the FTJ time could produce a 50 + 1 results unless there is a strong coalition. Other than that there could be instances of costly re-runs. Galu Zambia Watchers have a hidden agenda that they will unlikely attain so they have released rabid galus to fight but they will go nowhere! That said, there are other important considerations to be taken in the constitution but you are not going to push it on the President. In addition these galus don’t want to ask themselves as to why other “Controllers of our nations who pull the strings remotely” want to fund the constitution process! Galus!

A good constitution will have a longer lifespan than Sata, So do not ignore the constitutional debate, ignore Sata instead.
Only in Zambia can a president get away with insulting his officials and MP’s. Docility and cowardice has now reached endemic proportions. Why not subject the president to a medical review and ascertain his mental health. His certainly strikes me as mentally unbalanced and needs help.

Okay, so it is not about Sata but the Zambian people BUT what are going to do about it? All talk and no action is useless. How do we get this constitution resurrected? Has Sata won? i would rather ignore the Oasis Forum for now. I dont think a new constitution will stop me from getting malaria, build roads, hospitals, create employment…or put food on my table.
The main problem with such organisations or church leaders is that once they meet and drink coffee or tea they become high on Caffeine and hallucinate alot.
