Forum for Development and Democracy Lusaka Province Chairman, James Musemuna, has welcomed government’s pronouncement that ballot papers for the 2016 general elections will be printed in the country.

Mr Musemuna said the printing of ballot papers by the Government Printing Department locally was highly commendable.

He told ZANIS in an interview that the printing of ballot paper outside Zambia by foreign printing companies was too costly for the country to continue.

Mr Musemuna observed that the printing of the ballot papers locally will guarantee security as stakeholders will be able to monitor the printing process to avoid tampering with the papers.

He has since urged government to ensure that the machinery at the Government Printer is in good state prior to the printing process so that the pronouncement of having the ballot papers printed in Zambia is successful.

The pronouncement was made by Vice President Guy Scott in Parliament last week.

Meanwhile, Mr Musemuna said it was worrying that many lives have continued being lost through road traffic accidents.

He said government should consider putting up dual-carriage ways on the country’s main roads to help minimize the increase of traffic accidents on the Zambian roads.

Mr Musemuna has also urged motorists, especially truck and bus drivers, to avoid travelling in the night because most of the accidents having been taking place in the night.

  1. I don’t trust anything that comes from the PF government these days. I suggest you take that pronouncement with a pinch of salt.

    • The safest highway to drive on in the country is the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriage way. its never congested and you dont run the risk of a head-on collision (the major cause of deaths in accidents)

with so many vehicles on the roads now, its just logical that all major highways be upgraded to dual carriage ways.

This will not just make the roads safe, but will also improve efficiency in the delivery of goods and services among other things

  2. new constitution first. come 2016, u will u-turn over ballot papers under the name of being costly, no capacity blah blah blah…..hope you hv put all in place not jst making mere statements.

  3. What a stupid man Musemuna is!! He cant see that this will make it easier for PF to print duplicate copies for rigging the election!!
Zambians are so docile and that is why PF is 10000 times ahead. There is real danger of rigged elections – so the opposition should also start planning ahead!!

  4. Ba Chilyata, your notion that Mr Musemuna is stupid does not make sense, instead he should be supported because the printing of ballots locally will:
Provide jobs to Zambians and also prevent the externalisation of millions of dollars. Please ba chilyata contribute intellectually not insults.

  5. ….trying very hard to dilute and divert focus from the new people driven constitution to unwarranted ballot papers…..for now, where ballot papers shall be printed is the least on our list of expectations. New Constitution tops the agenda. Lets deal and talk about the new constitution first before we even think of 2016 elections.

It looks like even the opposition MPs have also heeded to Michael’s call to ‘SHUT UP’ on new constitution demands..?? I expect the MPs to touch and put the house on fire with the calls for new constitution echoing from one MP to the other. That should spill over to the public…..in taxis, buses, clubs, colleges, universities, offices, workshops, talk shows on private radio stations etc…new constitution should be predominant topic of discussion….

  6. ANOTHER BUUUUUFIIIIII. THEN HAKAINDE MUST BE RIGHT TO SUGGEST THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEN AN OLD MAN FULL OF LIES LIKE THIS ONE H.E. MCS. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN JUST LIKE WHAT HAS HAPPENED WITH THE CONSTITUTION THEY JUST WANT TO FIND ANOTHER LOOP HOLE FOR MONEY SIPHONING IN THE NAME OF IMPROVING GOVT. PRINTERS OR WHATEVER COMPANY IT MIGHTY BE.
