Mr Banda inspects a guard of honour at national assembly buildings

President Banda, says Government is working hard to improve the conditions of service for defense and security personnel in the country.

President said this today during a scheduled Defence Council meeting which was held to discuss various issues concerning the welfare of the defence and security personnel.

This is according to a statement issued by Chief Analyst for Press and Public Relations, Dickson Jere, made available to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday.

And Mr. Banda also appealed to political leaders to desist from using issues involving defense and security forces for their political propaganda, because doing so could create unnecessary discontent in the nation.

The President, who is also Commander In-Chief of the Armed Forces, regretted that some political leaders have continued to issue careless statements designed to incite the Defense and Security personnel against government on grounds that it is allegedly not addressing their problems.

He said Government through the defense Council has addressed several issues concerning the defense forces.

He said the issues of accommodation, general welfare of the entire personnel and senior officer’s contracts have been tackled by his Government.

The President said he has held two meetings with the Defense Council within the two months he has been in office because he attaches great importance to the welfare of the defense forces.

  1. Number 1. I feel sorry for our Defence Forces, I don’t think tey are really being taken care of, especially the ones that serve in the U.N special forces. We love you and thanks for serving our country, you are brave men and women and just so you know,,,Zambia appreciate you!

  2. RB you have to do that as soon as possible, these people dont entertain fake promises.Mind you they are very different to the pipo in villages,so Bwana Presido you have to fulfil your promises. We have been enjoying peace for ages now,and we want to continue enjoying it.Thank you bwana president.

    Fellow Bloggers,

Allow me to greet you all in christ name.Stay blessed

    Matworld.

  3. yes u beta do it bakulu mpuno, because the situation is really bad for the defence personel, especially the coporals, these peole are supposed to stay in camps or withing barracks,so that incase of anything th@ might occur and we need them to defend our motherland,it wont be hard to organise them.now these days most of these people are staying all over the place, mutendere, kalingalinga, chaisa mandeveu,nw hw possible can it be to organise them incase of emergency.so akulu mpuno fulfil your promises..NOT UKULACHILINGA FYE IFI MULECHILINGA,IYO MUKWAI.these are important issues of national security,te nambord iyi zebigee!

  5. As a tourist in 2005 it was hard to say no to a police officer that giving him money for a beer was not the right thing to do.
Him having a nice AK47 in his hands was the reason i gave in to him.

No wonder these officers sell their guns and they end up in criminals hands who rob and kill.

  6. About our Defence Forces residing in baracks, I think that’s not a problem. They have the right to choose where they want to live,,,and secure themselves utuma housing allowances. They just need to be taken care of period! doesn’t matter whether they live in the Barracks or not.

  7. #14 Mossad-Kgb,shani imwe, mudala wandi ndeuma nempepo kuno, ninsakamana nomwemfu wandi kuti wauma nokutala nangula ukumena ice mwe..# 13.kipe yayo muntu wandi ntuminako ko gas nanebo mwe…muleboba bwino ku foward uko.awe baka teka tulelolela ukomona efyo balanda eko file pela, fili okotuya..bt this rb government seems to be all over the place ifya sankitary fye mwe, they hav seem nt to hav a program ahead of them,bt i wish them success in this new year,i hope they will look @ the zambian peoples affairs nt jst the defence forces,we need development pa zed.

  8. #11,living a barack is a must for some forces. There are alot of things that are considered that we cant discuss here.ALL i can say is that the GVT should provide enough houses for all defence forces among other conditions of service. [-x

  9. Hello bloggers, mwashibukeni! We all should be proud of our defence forces for keeping th epeace in the country. Compared to places like West Africa or DRC, our Generals are quite gentle.

    PS. Congrats Matworld! l-)

  10. # 21 wait for the comprehensive plan in his address to parliament this friday as he opens parliament.zambians should learn to mature and begin to support govt as the rule if anything good has to come from them.even a child that despises his father cannot get the best from him. peace

  11. zambian soldies are just drunkards and womanisers no need to improve thier welfare, what do they do apart from drinking cheap mosi in barracks

  12. Hello! When is Raila Odinga going to send his Kenyan soldiers to Gaza and protect innocent gazan civilians from Israeli massacre? Zimbabwe is peaceful, and does not need Odinga’s toy soldiers.

  13. #25. G BABY, The man recently admitted to being forgetful in Friday’s edition of the post. I take it that was a warning. Next you’ll hear is “did is say that???” :d

  14. #26 Double Standards

Isn’t it rather perverse that African countries don’t have money for food, but plenty for weapons?
The more i think about it the more I feel that we ought to support NGOs like CAAT – lets take the dangerous toys away from everybody! Then we’ll have enough money to support the poor + enough land for everyone to grow their own food. Instead of ‘saving’ some of the gazan civillians, how about concentrating on stopping weapons getting to israel?

  15. Ba mwinsho.

  17. At least RB is rocking ‘real’ suit now noti ma safari suits he had launching we have been seeing like they were made by a telala from Chaisa

  18. #23 My friend whether they are drunkards or womanisers but the thing is that they know how to sqeeze the triger and the country’s weapons are in their responsiblity. Carefull with what you say I know you are not living in Zed but for the sake of peace sensor your mouth.

  19. Matworld nice guy,i mourn with u over the suspension of operation for zambian airways, even tho it was privately owned,it was carrying and flying our natioanl coulours high,nw am very scared because this CR muntu wandi, awe natina nshalande..and since the government does nt even seem to hav issues of a national airline on the table, they shld consider buyings sub marines tuleyenda panshi yamenshi nomba,:d.

  20. Still tipsy from last night. Too Cold over here. Anyways Nine Chale how are you today? RB treat the Men right otherwise they might capsize the boat!!

  21. #34 Myself, mwalasa kwena iy,its very sad th@ some people dnt understand hw important the defence forces are to the well being of our nation, besides th@ we hav enjoyed peace and security stability because of teh dicipline these people have,in some othe counrty’s this is there wish,to hav peace like zambia has been enjoying..hence the need to look @ their plight seriously,if this Rb government fulfil’s these promises it will be very gud.they deserve better.

  22. IWE #23 IF ALL THE ZEED SOLDIERS WERE LIKE YOU HAVE DESCRIBED THEM, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN AT WAR BY NOW. OUR SOLDIRES LOVE THEIR DRINK BUT WE HAVE ONE OF THE MOST DESCIPLINED ARMYS IN THE WORLD. MULETASHA.

  23. G BABY

I Was alright in the morning, now am not okay.I have burnt my fingers I wanted to welcome my brother and his family with a cake yaba twayoca.Otherwise how are you dear?

  24. Most people are considered wise until they open their mouths. I have always restrained myself to comment on issues that I have little or no knwledge on. This is to give chance to those that know so that I can learn from them. There are geniouses on this blog and I am one of the beneficiaries of their knowledge though for free. God bless you guys. But #23!!!!

  25. #23 you are a shame, learn to appreciate like your other colleagues .
Most Zambians are appreciated for their social aspects even here abroad, this is our pride and if the mosi makes it possible for them to be liked and appreciated by others, so be it!!!
RB,its pay back time!!! they backed you when you needed support and now “mayo mpapa naine kaku mpapa!!!” do it wisely, any chance for our Teachers and retirees??????

  26. Hello bloggers. baby c, nine chale, malt world, ba muisho, G baby and the rest you.

Good Rb is promising the soldiers. Soldiers dont forget. He has just to fulfill his promise. Otherwise I dont know.

He should also pay the retirees, increase salaries for bakafudisha etc. Not just him and Namugala chilling all over Zambia.

Aba bantu taba kwata Insuni eeee.

  27. Hi G baby…..

Ala your name always mislead me into saying G-string. You know b4 your came there was somebody who tickled us about his or her G-string. Ala nimambala sana.

hope I will not mistake one day and call you G-string.
    =p~=p~=p~=p~

  28. ilyashi yama contracts panse! Do not give those old Generals contracts because they have brought untold misery to the Army. They have already received their retirement benefits & now they are busy plundering!

  29. Time the government gave serious thought to a small very professional and modern army than having a blotted outdated army they struggle to keep, and have a reserve they can call upon if necessary (like Israel).Do policemen really have to move with AK 47 all the time? Too much spent on weapons than efficient policing and housing etc.

  30. Good move Mr President. You should also consider the Zambia Police Force. We are enjoying peace because of these men and women in uniform. Without peace and security we cant do anything in life. Security is number one in every aspect of life. ENJOY!

  31. # 23, You are able to comment like that because of the peace you are enjoying. Visit Somali or Sudan and see how our brothers and sisters are suffering due to the absence of PEACE, maybe you will value peace. The issue of drinking and womanising is purely personal.
