Press Statement for Immediate release

GEORGE CHELLAH IS MISREPRESENTING STATE HOUSE

On Thursday, our beloved President Nevers Sekwila Mumba raised serious concerns over the manner in which President Michael Sata conducted himself at the national Labour Day celebrations in Lusaka.

In the spirit of national interest, Dr Mumba correctly pointed the Presidency to the failure to observe international norms and decorum expected at such occasions of high repute.

Dr Mumba further stated that failure to address the assembled workers was testament that President Sata and the PF government lacked a workers agenda.

All Zambians of right thinking minds fully endorsed Dr Mumba’s observation and demanded that President Sata starts conducting himself in a manner befitting his high office.

Other opposition political parties also agreed with Dr Mumba that President Sata is doing a disservice to the working population in particular and to the Zambians in general by failing to articulate his agenda for the Zambian worker.

As expected, State House Spokesperson George Chellah decided to mutilate Dr Mumba’s well-intentioned statement by making desperate attempts to divert attention from the serious issues raised by Dr Mumba.

[pullquote]Mr Chellah went on to produce a half-baked, illogical, immature, unresearched and badly packaged statement attacking Dr Mumba’s persona[/pullquote]

Mr Chellah went on to produce a half-baked, illogical, immature, unresearched and badly packaged statement attacking Dr Mumba’s persona.

Perhaps unknown to Mr Chellah, he made remarks which further confirms President Sata’s inability to cope with the huge demands of his office.

Mr Chellah in his unusual uncouth manner revealed that President Sata works from 07:300 Hours to 1300 Hours then breaks off for lunch for an hour and resumes at 14:00 Hours to 18:00 Hours. As MMD youths, we are putting it to Mr Chellah that President Sata should then rank as the least hard working President in the history of Zambia.

Heads of State the world over are known to work very long hours. The late President Levy Mwanawasa despite his poor health is on recording as having stayed up late in his office as late as 23 Hours working and holding business meetings.

At the height of the privatization programme, late Dr Frederick Chiluba is said to have stayed in the office until 04 Hours ensuring that this country was on the road to economic recovery.

President Rupiah Banda also travelled the length and breadth of this great country launching, commission and monitoring developmental projects, a clear sign of hard work and commitment to duty.

If President Sata works for 9 Hours according to information supplied by Mr Chellah, we then say to him that President Sata is not working as hard as he should, given the many challenges that Zambia faces.

The Presidency demands total commitment to duty, serious sacrifice on the part of the incumbent and a non-clock watcher.

We know a lot of men and women who are struggling to make ends meet who are forced to work longer hours due to the hardships that President Sata’s administration has brought.

How then could he enjoy the luxury of sleep at 19 Hours when the majority is still hustling to find food as late as 23 Hours?

These are the questions a good State House Spokesperson ought to be answering.

Mr Chellah should be communicating positive messages from the Presidency to the citizenry and not hate and venom each time Dr Mumba raises an issue in public interest.

All Dr Mumba asked was a statement of apology from State House over President Sata’s conduct. All he received were insults from Mr. Chellah.

As MMD youths, we wish to register our outmost disappointment and disgust at the level of immaturity and lack of tact exhibited by Mr Chellah since his appointment.

Mr Chellah is the core reason many people lack confidence to employ young people to positions of leadership. He has lamentably failed in his role and serves as a bad example of youth leadership.

The most logical and natural thing to do is ask President Sata to drop Mr. Chellah and protect the integrity of his office. With Mr Chellah at State House, Zambia will continue being treated to Mickey Mouse statements that lack basic reasoning and standards.

President Sata should save himself from further humiliation by firing Mr Chellah.

Mr. Chellah has misrepresented President Sata’s image the image of his administration from the day he was appointed.

  1. Mr Lusambo needs to stand for any open position in MMD and maybe upgrade his education to silence his critics who state that he does not have a formal position in MMD and may not be too educated, he seems very committed and dedicated to MMD. He also needs to brand himself as a peaceful person and offer apologies where required otherwise he seems to want the best for MMD.

    • What you have described Mr. observation of the said Lusambo are the text book specifics of a CADRE, the most useless animal on the animal farm.

I would like to expand on your description of a CADRE. His only motivation is his rumbling hungry stomach and he is characterized by a rabid dislike for those who are educated and more likely to progress above him.

If these are the personalities and characters we are encouraging as a nation to lead us, we are in deep sh!t.

    • Lusambo 10:0 Chellah This is a very good response form Lusambo.Well done! At least we have some thinkers in Zambia. Chellah just dug a hole by revealing how many hours the president works. You can not run a country by only putting 9 hours a day like some bank clerk! Thumbs up Lusambo! We have some Zambians who have integrity and can not be bought.

  2. Chellah….. Looking at life realistically, what are your future plans? Rather, how do you see yourself in the next two years?

    • kekekekekekek! why that question? the man is working in the presidency,,,,, in 2yrs Sata will still be president,,,,,,, i want to believe that chellah will still be around in 2yrs

  3. Thumbs up Bowman.. What you have said about the young immature Chellah is 100% true… The young man is just too excited for nothing yet his days of enjoyment are now numbered…

  4. As a citizen of this land I would love to see that the president succeeds in his effforts to develop this country because if he does the benefits are for each citizen but from my observation our leader has wrong people around whom he needs to get rid off and one of them I am afraid is George Chella.I think there are well trained and mature journalists in Zambia who can handle the big world of state house not the immature works of Mr Chella. I think communication from State house by this man is always on impulse, stained with anger, lacks some thought and no research at all.If a statement is released from State house it must have no political party inclination but the face of the executive in short government the people of Zambia.

  5. Poor MMD. Taken-over by the street-boys fraternity. Is there anyone there to save the once-mighty ruling party from the clutches of these unsavory ruffians, please?

  6. vima empty speeches bafana nivakudala. Just work hard to realised fruits or let Sata not waste time of speeches which in most cases don’t yield to anything. Time wasted on empty speeches can be well spent on planning and execution of duty productively. I support the president 100% for not having wasted time. In fact the short directive speech he made was the most effective and productive speeches I am yet to hear from other African leaders. African leaders waste whole the day reading very long and boring speeches to workers, most of whom do not even understand them.

    • a peter, nagati mavuzi yamivutani, ni kuvi juba, like angela nyirenda sings in her song ati vitendeni!!!!

    • Peter thumbs up. You are a true supporter, even when the writing is clear that you are not making sense you still go ahead and blog your thoughts. Speeches can never be useless. What brought Sata into presidency are the numerous speeches he gave during his campaign period. Now that he has the powers he should address the nation, informing us what direction the nation is taking. This is important as it forms part of the good will for the economy. I hope you understand the value of good will in economy.

  7. Bowman die hard Lusambo, why not concentrate on the squabbles in your dying party. Who is using your name to post? Having listened to you speak during an interview, it is indeed my belief that someone is impersonating you sir.

  8. Suntwe- do not be *****ically immature and useless. People world over have speech writers. Obama is a good speaker but has a speech writer. Kenyantta talks good but he has a speech writer. What is wrong for Bowman to engage a speech writer? ubupuba ba Suntwe.

  9. Lusambo, if you can not differentiate between staying late in the office and hard work, then just keep quite. An efficient government does not need to work a 23hr shift to show that they are hard working. Staying late in the office can also be a sign of ineffiency and incompetency. So long hours in the office should not be mistaken for hardwork. On the question of the President apologizing, what should he apologize for? And why should Chellah be sacked for, because he does not agree with Nevers? This is politics, live with the nonsense or leave and go sleep.

  10. Which collage or University was this guy ? just want to know and please, when commenting, try to put up your qualifications so that we understand how u find yourself in politics…..just want to advise people where they can comment exactly.

  11. School and education are two sides of the same coin, but they do not mean exactly the same thing. Bowman may not have spent as many years inside the confines (or prison as some would argue)of a classroom, but this discourse shows he is educated, in my opinion anyway. Some philosopher, asked how education could be be improved, once said “burn all the schools and hung the professors”. A young black American believes “education is the key,” but then “school is the lock,” a place where you are not allowed to find out things for yourself, let alone pass an opinion.

    • My own lecturer defined education as a production of change in human behavior.Basically what this means is education should not be confined to school, college or university environment. When a parent warns a child not to put his fingers into the fire for he will be burnt, this is education.I listened to Lusambo on radio and to me he came out tops as he appeared well organised and tackled the questions put to him with a lot of seriousness.

    • Bo Lindunda
I like the analogy of education is the key but school is the lock…uuumh There is indeed a big difference between being schooled and being educated and quite frankly, we have too many highly schooled but uneducated folks in this country and the saga appears to be growing on and on.

  12. This information confirms why our economy is like. why should the president only work for 9hours only when directors in companies work as long as 20 hours just to keep the business running. am a bit worried we thought he is a hard worker.

    • Sensible than all of them. Tried to search for one Minister, Zero. Went to search on the forest of Deputy Ministers i ended up with Minus ten.

  13. hmmm, nangu ku supporta zoona abena Peter! Damn! Firstly, that stup!d short speech your !d!iot of a president made, will make absolutely no difference to the welfare of the workers. All he achieved was to show those people who’d probably spent a lot of time rehearsing and preparing to impress your head of state that he really can;t be bothered. In your empty head, do you think ama employers were moved by what he said? And do you know how ba Shamenda has implemented those instructions? He has called on employees to report erring employers. Case closed. So what has been achieved ba Peter naimwe? We know you are PF but sometimes mwatu dabwishako with objectivity.

  14. The observation made by Lusambo should seriously be considered. George Chellah is immature who doesn’t deserve to hold the position of President’s Spokesperson. The boy is immature and behave more of a typical party cadre. The venom that comes from his mouth confirms that the boy need to be tamed at all cost. The honorable thing state house can do is to look for a credible journalist to take up that position. As a matter of fact George Chellah has taken over the role that is supposed to be played by the Chief Government Spokesperson. Can cabinet surely avail the Job Description to this young man at State House? The chap cannot draw a line between the role of Government Spokesperson and that of the President Spokesperson. To him all is about politicking. Shame on you George Chella.

  15. SUNTWE, Nishi People dont learn anymore. He has tried it being inpersonating or not. You even have no Guts to say anything in Media and All you would say is you have heard him speak, Better for him coz he has never heard You.
Naiwe PETER, Ninshi You Guys see nothing wrong with keeping quiet in the name of No speeches meanwhile people are suffering with raise of Fuel and Mealie-Meal and someone even goes and says no Speech, Mulifipuba…………?

  16. Uyu muguyiz zoona. He works less than 9 hrs? Who processes his time sheet? He needs a wage freeze or even wage reduction too?
