Lusaka Dynamos qualify for 2014 Barclays Cup

The 2014 Barclays Cup will have some added glamour after Lusaka Dynamos qualified for this years tournament.

Hanif Adams’ side qualified after topping the FAZ Division One South table at the midway point in Week 17 as they chase their first return to the FAZ Super Division since they were demoted in 2010.

They join their old foes Mighty Mufulira Wanderers who topped Division One North to make their Barclays Cup debut.

Dynamos beat fourth placed Zesco Malaiti 2-1 on Saturday to stay top of the table on 36 points, tied with Luena Buffaloes who won 1-0 away at Livingstone Pirates.

Chellah Siame scored a brace for Dynamos to send them into the draws.

Siames’ brace took his tally of the season to eight goals in 17 games.

Dynamos are not new to the competition and were quarterfinalists in 2007 losing 1-0 to eventual champions and record three-time winners Zesco United.

A season later, Dynamos won the last BP Top 8 cup in 2008 but failed to complete a cup double in the Barclays Cup when they lost 3-1 to Green Buffaloes in the third and fourth place playoff.

Meanwhile, Dynamos and Mighty head into the draws to face an interesting field.

Dynamos and Mighty are set for a reunion with Konkola Blades, Zanaco, Nkana, Zesco, two-time winners Power Dynamos and 2012 champions Napsa Stars .
