A 15 year–old grade six girl and her 49 year old aunt both of Chinsali have pleaded not guilty to trafficking in 507 grams of cannabis.

The duo appeared in the Chinsali Magistrates court yesterday.

Appearing before Magistrate Shadreck Chanda for plea was a grade six juvenile aged 15 of Chinsali Primary School and Maggie Bwalya, 49, both of Chandamali village in Chinsali district.

The duo is alleged to have trafficked in psychotropic substances contrary to Section 6 of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances Chapter 96 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that on 23 July 2014 the duo jointly and whilst acting together with other unknown people willfully and unlawfully did traffic in psychotropic substances namely cannabis weighing 507 grams.
The duo pleaded not guilty and the matter has since been adjourned to 12 August 2014 for commencement of trial while both accused persons are remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, sources at the Drug Enforcement Commissioner (DEC) in Chinsali said the accused juvenile was allegedly given the contraband by her father to hide at her aunty’s place who is the co-accused after he noticed the presence of a combined team of police and DEC officers in the area.

The girl’s father who allegedly deals in the same psychotropic substances went into hiding after he heard that his daughter and sister had been apprehended. The operation was conducted after a tip off from members of the public.

  1. Bad company corrupts good morals -those Chinsali pupils shouldn’t have been taken to see Sata, see now they are drug trafficking

    • Jo, when the pupils went to see Sata, he encouraged them to go into trafficking and you were there at state house witnessing this. That’s how come you know that this is Sata’s fault. What a genius you are!

    • People have different circumstances thrown at them in life.

I was 13 years old when the opportunity came my way to commence grade one. I now possess a hard earned postgraduate certificate.

    • She is Bemba. They are born criminals. Criminality is in their DNA. Natola fye culture. Please jail the little jerk.

    • @ 1.6 Zedian – what do you say about the following?
      1. On 21 December 2013, 23 year old Musa Mulanzi of Zambia compound in Mazabuka was arrested for raping a 78-year-old disabled woman of the same area
      2. In November 2013 Hamayoba was caught red handed in a sexual act with a bitch (female dog) by neighbours who apprehended and dragged him to the Police Station.
      3. 12.05.2014 Police in Namwala arrested a male Munyete Matengeta aged 47 years of village Musungwa of Itezhi tezhi district for having canal knowledge of his biological daughter.
      4. 12.05.2014 Police in Namwala detained Ndulwa Moombo aged 20 for defiling a young girl aged 8years of Mbeza area.

You see how foolish you are?

    • @ 1.6 Zedian – that is rich coming from you. Are you not aware of that Tonga chap who was a manager of a cleaning company who was sacked for stealing from his employers? Yes, the one who was also bonking his friend’s wife when his friend went to Zambia?

    • MUSHOTA, YOU COULDN’T HAVE BEEN IN GRADE 12 AT 15. YOUR GRAMMAR SUCKS. YOUR THINKING IS MYOPIC. I EVEN WONDER IF YOU DIDN’T TURN YOUR VISA APPLICATION UPSIDE DOWN WHEN YOU WERE FILLING IT IN. BY THE WAY THAT GIRL MUST BE SATA’S NIECE OR SOMETHING AND THE OTHER ONE MUST BE HIS SISTER. I HAVE GONE TO FIND OUT THE TRUTH AT THE WATCHDOG!!!

  2. Mushoto; you are a loud mouthed insensitive cow or bull. your father waseither a minister or a diplomat, you had previleges that that poor girl does not know, but at the end of it and judging from what you write, it is a clear sign that you took up space from someone who would have used the oppotunity you had to better use, you are an empty vessel and a bootlicker, Now going back to the girl, she was just a pawn in the whole game, I do not believe she fully was aware of the danger in transporting the drugs, So on her behalf I plead that the justice system will be lenient with her. Also on top of it, the African child is taught obedience to one s elders so she was just obeying her father;

    • Bufi fye cilebepa ci mushota. kuti wayamba grade one when you are three years? justice system ileumfwako nensoni. it is very clear this teenager was just taken advantage of in this whole thing.

  3. Weak case ba buju naba December.
Defence stance, child was sent by Father to deliver a parcel to the aunt, contents unknown, no trafficking offence, nkani yasila

  4. In Zambian culture if your parent asks you to run an errand can you refuse? She most certainly didn’t know what she was carrying. The court should take this into consideration when passing judgement.

  5. Cost of living!
Everyone is looking for a quick fix!
    Just legalize that herb!
It grows freely. Why chain the source of wisdom?

  6. Ata why arrest her over such a small amount ? I believe it was for her own personal consumption. You have more important things today than waste public resources on the prosecution of a grade 6 pupil.Release her !!!

  7. my daughter is 15 years old and she is in grade 11. You can call mushota names, but that girl has got a lot to caught up with.

    • So what, if your girl is 15 years, is she involved in drug trafficking am sure not, hence I do not see you bring your girl in the matter at all. There is no age limit to education, most of you people have not been in the village and moreover, who told you that your girl is a standard to judge others on, I taught in a school where my pupils were older than me but that never bothered me. Let us learn to concetrate on the matter at hand, which is drug trafficking.

      Grow up please!

    • Judging by your “that girl has got a lot to caught up with”, you too have a lot to catch up on.You can start with English grammar.

  8. Knowing the justice system in Zambia, the judges will obviously send the poor girl to jail for decades for something so petty. They are always excited and very swift about dispensing justice if the crime is petty, sex with goats or chickens. How many corrupt govt officials are serving jail time? And yet official govt corruption is the biggest industry in Zambia.

    • Very true, i wish some of these judges would think of the ramifications when they send poor old women or children to the cells. One day God will judge them just as harshly as they judge these poor people. What’s bad again is you have these double standard NGOs that are the same ones that influenced the previous government to set up useless no purpose institutions like DEC, I believe Zambia police are even better and more professional and less inclined to tamper with evidence than DEC. The Govt should disband DEC and allow the police to take over such matters.

  9. This is a serious matter deserving serious comments, some of you who post comments here have nothing better to do, you take such matters lightly until you feel what it means to be affected or in a similar situation. This poor girl and her aunt should be released and the officers who arrested her, taking her away from school and her studies should be arrested for wasting government resources. Dear Lord what is wrong with DEC officers, there are taverns that are killing young men and women, illicit beer destroying morals and causing road accidents yet they take it upon themselves to arrest a 15 year old girl! This is why I call DEC the Devil Empowerment Commission. What will happen to this poor child?? Even the powers that be in govt know that DEC is abusing the law, let DEC face the law too!

  10. Please I do not care about Your English GRAMMAR.Here, against all odds, let us allow our children to go earlier to school.if the girl was in grade 10 0r 11, her capacity to judge could have been better.
