UNZA students to be paid on Friday

Share

University of Zambia (UNZA) students will start receiving their meal allowances Friday.

Education Minister Geoffrey Lungwangwa who confirmed the development at a media briefing in the capital Lusaka also said it was regrettable that students rioted due to unpaid meal allowances.

He said there was no need for the students to resort to violence.

UNZA students on Tuesday night rioted and stoned vehicles on the Great East road in protest against delayed payment of their meal allowances.

  1. The students that weren’t involved in stoning vehicles or violent behaviour should be the ones that should be paid. If no type of retribution comes from this the students will always think such behaviour is admissable. Violence should forfeit meal allowances

  2. same people are on number one. why? its coz LT employees are adding their comments before posting plagiarised staff. (sorry syndicated crap)

  3. Baby C I fear because I know Lungwangwa is lying again and he’ll be in trouble. They never learn. Lets wait and see.

By the way does it mean they had the money all this time but they just didnt want to pay them.

So rioting is the only way to get their attention.

I’m watching this space. Baby C watch with me please

  4. And you call that a govt ?
one that only responds after violence, what a shame ! Friday ni mailo !
Unza students must also respect other peoples’ property(being a tax payer).

  5. why is it they wre not given there BCs on time. Also remember to paid the Zed students studying abroad on time Plizzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  6. why does the govt wait until the student riot(( they should learn to pay the students on time. if the money is there then why?

  7. what a shameless government we have. they must b held accountable for the damages. we have a government withhout principles. students are playing on gvt’s mind. you mean there has been no talk? gvt seems to respond quicker to violence than dialogue. munyina maanu, kamubuka….

  8. It looks like taking to the streets is the only altenative to the problems we are facing! See, if the students had remained mute, nothing tangible could have come out!

  9. #7 but bakamba imwe muli dull or maybe ni your grasping capacity of ur brain is faling you? have asked urself why the students are being paid mailo? is ur reasoning telling you that the gvt was planning to pay the students on Friday mailo?if that’s the case, then i have no kind words for you than just wish that you grow up. no offense man.

  10. #21 that is what it called reasoning rather than these “brains” hear just condemning without thinking, blinded by the little internet they have! i am 100% sure the gvt never intended to pay the students mailo, to make the matters worse they are even announcing it.

  11. :d Jamaco just seen Lady Chiza`s comment.

Tell everyone to come for lessons on how to bel-)

Free tuition Lady Chiza`s Legs. I dont work for LT.:d

  12. “Education Minister Geoffrey Lungwangwa who confirmed the development at a media briefing in the capital Lusaka also said it was regrettable that students rioted due to unpaid meal allowances. He said there was no need for the students to resort to violence.”
Minister Prof G. Lungwangwa, what is regrettable is your 17 year old MMD GRZ’s failure to pay the students on time. Can you please make sure that next time you pay the UNZA students on time.
Also, may you see to it that Mr Cardson Kabwe,25 yrs old,a GRZ sponsored student receives medical surgery to curb his now 4months heart problem which may worsen in 1 and half months’ time if he doesn’t get an operation according to Russian Doctors.

  13. oooh reminds of the Viva days!!!! dont blame the students, blame the govt. Why dont they do the obvious?????? to get an increament from 60pin to 90pin, we have to vivula up to State House, ask Kafupi?

  14. I wonder when we shall be able to bulid more universities in our country if BC can not be paid on time. we going backwards instead of progressing. a 5 yrs programme at unza takes 6 to 10 yrs coz such acts Yalepena pa Zed

  15. 30. continued.

The UNZA students on rioted when you took them for granted by failing to do your obligation.
I was once a UNZA student and your Prof. Lungwawngwa served as Depuy Vice Chancellor at the time, but with your experience at UNZA and now at the helm of the MOE you still fail to help us students to have a normal day-to-day running of UNZA.
Can you please work hard in that office you occupy so that people’s property won’t be destroyed by the UNZA or CBU ones again.
Also, cancel the RUSSAIN-ZAMBIA government sponsorship for Zambians to study in Russia if you can never sustain it by doing your obligations.
I’m tired of the same nonsense happening over and over again.

  16. Poor Mother Zambia, Higher Education seems to be a problem to manage. If one is serious take the following measure
    1. No meal allowances, but huge loans to enable students pay for their meals
2 accommodation should only be given to first years, pay all students enough money to rent home in lusaka and near by towns.
3 Involve the private sector in providing accomodation for students

These measures can help improve the economic as whole and the behaviour of students.

  17. 35. 3RqU greetings and hhehhehhehhe. I was part of the UNZA system. I can assure you that the only VIVA riot I participated fully is the one we then UNZA students thwarted former President Chiluba FTJ’s 3rd Term bid that Undereducate Sata was advancing.

That was a real cause and our cousins, policemen, were also with us as they thought that the Chiluba-Sata combination to r a p e Zambia’s Republican Constitution had gone too far.

Later, some UNZA students riot-participated in forcing Parliament to remove Chiluba’s immunity but I was busy doing my homework in my room.

Today, I can safely comment that I have been taught by the best from all over the world: Russia, USA, Japan, etc.

  18. #37 Jamako they get K300, 000. My sister is there. Makes me twitch everytime I hear there was a riot and all that (I know what I am talking about).

  19. All those vehicles damaged should be compasated by deducting from all students, its time for them to be responsible and mature. :)>-

  20. I hope the money will be put to good use,
    Meal allowance means meals.

mule kutika, dont spend it on porn materials

  21. Father and Son over Students` meal allowances
Father: My son do you know why the students are throwing stones on vehicles passing in Great East Road?
Son: The Students belong in the Stone Age and are allergic to vehicles, a development that was a result of the Iron Age!

  22. meastro
in your…’I have been taught by the best from all over the world…’your sound rather unneccessarily pompous and uncultured.Consider scripture;GOD RESISTS THE PROUD BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.In future avoid blowing your own trumpet

  23. All this payment of meal allowances should end.
Students should be given loans by their local authorities (where your father or mother comes from ) and central government should never be involved.

When that happens any one who wants to riot can go and do so in Chama or kabompo or kawambwa or Mungwi and all the nonsense will stop.
This is the British system and it is the one thing we need to copy –fast

  24. Viva i also remember when i was at CBU we were only paid after throwing stones on public vehicles but am now in Russia nd cant throw stones now pliz our gov tulangulukeniko tulefwa nensala kuno!!we get paid in jan nd this is feb ba RB mulikwi???viva ba monk well done i mis u ma niggre!!!!!chao!!!!

  25. So most of you are UNZA chaps hey? Nowonder the senseless comments most of the time. Study hard coz if you dont, you’ll suffer and out here there is no throwing of stones or you ‘ll be arrested. Anyway guys all your best…and spend your little ngwees wisely, not namahule.

  26. 49. ndolic greetings. On your “meastro
in your…’I have been taught by the best from all over the world…’your sound rather unneccessarily pompous and uncultured.Consider scripture;GOD RESISTS THE PROUD BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.In future avoid blowing your own trumpet”, I assure you that I will not stop using the truth. Have you read the books that Saul/Paul wrote in the New Testament of the Holy Bible?
If so, you should reconsider your posting to me.
Also, if you look at my posting it clearly shows “etc”. I wrote etc to indicate that there are other countries including Zambia I have not mentioned. I attest right now that I have NEVER had a lecturer as UNZA’s Dr Habatwa Mweene was.

  27. Lets all applaude Kalekanya Mikowa we need more people like you =d> you have some deep rooted issues and we the young risk being misled by you 😮

  28. 59. Maestro Hhehhehhehhe continued.

So, instead of rushing to write things, please read and possibly re-read my posting before exposing failure to comprehend my simple lessage to you and the whole world.

I hope this is enough for I do not want or need to quote Holy Scriptures for you to showcase that I know what I am doing. I use Srciptures as a last resort to help those that do not understand what I mean at a specific time.

  29. 62. ndolic what is your real problem?

I have lots of work to do and I do not need to teach you through Scriptures like I have done to many LT bloggers who came with your similar attitude.
But if you need such lectures please shout and I can put my school work aside for the moment to attend to your concerns.

  30. Ba NCZ mwashala, why don’t you make use of those big rocks in the hills surrounding your town.iam sure they can send a message.and copy from the learned ones you don’t block vehicles you stone them.ok

  31. Meastro
Are you quick to see problems with people and you can not see your desolation?I have no problem sir.But just to let you know, a man of your esteem ought not to quikly get emotional like the way you do.Maybe you missed that in your marathon persuit for education.I am ready to put everything down and give you a meastro

  32. That is the language you understand. Why should you only respond after students have demonstrated. In fact you should compensate people whose cars where stoned. You had money but just didn’t want to pay students, selfish chaps.

  33. 65. ndolic and 67. ndolic, if you want to have a chat with me, just address me properly. Otherwise, many came with a motive to bring me down but they failed.

The reason is that I have committed myself to know God, the Creator of the Universe and everything in it. In short, I am always busy trying to read more and more of the Holy Scriptures and then implementing what they require me to by God’s grace.

Take careful care always and keep well.

  37. 54- zed is zed, britain is britain.our coffers are minute compared to theirs. To me its clear that the money was there, its a shame on the system that students must thro stones 2 eat

  38. #73: My brother students abroad will not be paid, kabili you condem unza students when they riot. So just follow the normal channel and you will get your money in December 2009.

  39. #71: Kuti mwalabako kabili you follow the normal procedure. Use short cuts and you will squeeze money from the govt. Otherwise, your money is in South Africa paying for VJ’s bills.
