Renowned Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa is expected to arrive in the country today on a four-day visit.
Archbishop Tutu will be in the country to support and encourage efforts to end child marriage.
Archbishop Tutu will visit Zambia in his capacity as a co-founder of Girls Not Brides, a global partnership of more than 400 Civil Society Organisations across the world.
According to a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Archbishop Tutu will be joined by Mabel van Oranje who is the Chairperson of Girls Not Brides, The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage.
The duo will be in the country to learn about the work underway to address child marriages and to share other country’s experiences on the same trend.
During their visit, Archbishop Tutu and Mabel van Oranje will meet Civil Society Organisations, Government Ministers, Youth Groups, Faith Leaders and Traditional Leaders.
Zambia has been grappling with the fight against Child Marriages with First Lady Christine Kaseba recently describing it as a calamity and called for concerted efforts to end the scourge.
He has just come to promote homos .Unfortunately we will be singing praises to him when he comes.

Be Careful of that man called Tutu. He may just take that opportunity of his stay in Zambia to advocate for homosexual rights. I am not judging anyone, but the bible says “You will know them by their fruits”. There are so many “Pharisees” in the church today. Just like we have countless False Prophets.
Am sure that is his motive. Using his status to change the hearts of men. Romans chapter two that’s all I got to say to him.
Looks like he’s coming for a noble cause but I would caution Zambians that Tutu is a vocal supporter of gay rights. And he wouldn’t mind upsetting his hosts either in championing those rights. Don’t say you were not warned.
Let him be warned that he will go faster than he came if he made such a mistake…
Girls not Brides. That’s a noble cause. But the real question is:- What is the root cause of child marriages in our region of the World? Is it tradition? Is it lack of adequate careers after tertiary education, so young girls are married off as a safeguard? Is it poverty, hence parents chasing lobola “Bride price”? Is it to avoid misbehaviour and unwanted pregnancies? Is it peer pressure? What is it? These are the issues to debate on.
