The Lusaka Magistrate Court has today convicted former Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander Andrew Sakala for theft by public servant involving K1.5 million.

The court has however acquitted former Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commandant Sikota Yeta and former Zambia Army Commander Wisdom Lopa on the same charges.

Lusaka Magistrate Wilfred Muuma found Lieutenant General Sakala guilty of having stolen the public funds contrary to section 272 and 277 Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that between 16th and 21st September, 2011, General Sakala received K1.5 million through the ZAF Aircraft Hire Account, money meant for operations during the September 2011 general elections which he is alleged to have distributed to his colleagues.

The three former defence chiefs were jointly charged on 20th March 2012.

General Sakala has since been remanded at Kamwala Remand Prison awaiting sentencing on Friday 10th October 2014.
And the Joint Government Investigative Team has welcomed the conviction of General Sakala.
According to a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Joint Investigative Team Public Relations Officer Namukolo Kasumpa.

Mrs. Kasumpa said the team will study the judgment on the acquittal of the other two generals for further consideration.

  1. With all that money Sakala was caught pants down with his concubine in Ngombe compound in a one roomed ” house” by his Wife. Akaso ifya ku Chipata.
    Go and rot in jail.

    • I recall Mrs Sakala humiliating her General husband at the Ng’ombe incident and promising to fix him for the money he had stolen from GRZ.

Countrymen, be wary of women even if they be your wives for on the day of reckoning she will dine with the devil and Judas Iscariot style send you to your calvary. Now therefore my good General, be yea strong and steadfast as a man of war that you are. Vicissitudes of life knock on each persons door and the response is what matters. But one advice I offer you; let go of Mrs Sakala…….ndiye anakuletelela.

    • Ukushishita ba sakala imwe, distributing such huge sums of money to your friends without documentation? Iwe naiwe yumba chintu uchinje!

  2. Well done investigative team and judiciary. Another one in the fight against corruption! Kudos to Mrs Sakala, she is a patriot first and then a wife!

    • Easier to trust a man than a woman. They almost always turn against you immediately they feel things are no longer going their way. Yes, Gen. Sakala did wrong but the wife acted like a knife. She betrayed him as a way to avenge for being cheated. Getting scared of marrying.

  3. Women are poisonous.Imagine if he didn’t cheat on her she would have kept ziii, nokulayumfwa ku banankwe.Ba general, you are a man of war, mukasova ,muposhe general kanene na Masumba

  4. Sad for this man, others are going free like that boy Kapoko him is going in yah corruption at its best in Zed what a country Lord help us

  5. Women are the curse of this world. When Adam was alone in the Graden of Eden somehere in Irag,he was living a quite and peaceful life. When Eve came problems started.Within a short period she betrayed him.In the bible there are many examples,Samson was betrayed by a woman.
In our current generation Jimmy Swargard went down twice because of women,Pastor chris,Benn Hinn, even our own Dan pule and many so called profets are all going down because of women. Many of the political differences and divisions in the church are caused by women.
Never, never tell a woman a secret before you realise ,it is news all over or it lands you in trouble. It is their nature.
General Sakala was betrayed by his so called prostitute wife. She is now on cloud nine.Women dont regret getting their men in trouble.

  6. Judging from the comments here, it seems most of you commenting are men. From what everyone is saying, it was okay for Mr Sakala to put his wife through hell and she shouldn’t have reacted at all. For someone who is Mrs Sakala’s age to take their marital problems outside the home and fight Mr Sakala’s concubine means she’d had enough. You also forget that he humiliated her further by making her apologise in the paper even when he knew he was wrong. We are all human beings and the pain of being mistreated is the same. Lets not objectify women and treat them like door mats. Mrs Sakala is someone’s daughter, sister, and mother. Like someone here said, am equally terrified of getting married.
